Did any of y'all go to school and get a degree but now work in a job you coulda done with ...
... a high school education or less? I'm literally doing the same thing I was doing back in high school, and I have a masters degree. Just looking for commiseration I suppose..

In case you've never been to the gym before..

"Stop policing my daughter's appetite."
On facebook I follow a company called A Mighty Girl, which describes itself as "the world’s largest collection of books, toys, movies, and music for parents, teachers, and others dedicated to raising smart, confident, and courageous girls and, of course, for girls themselves!" They recently posted the following link. I…

Would you go to HR if your manager wasn't giving you all your breaks?
I just started working two weeks ago. Yesterday was my first seven-hour shift. The book I got at orientation says any shift over six hours gets a thirty-minute unpaid lunch and two fifteen-minute paid breaks. Yesterday a coworker told me they only get the lunch, not the two fifteens. I asked my supervisor about it, and he…

Do you think the BodPod gave me the right results!?
I don't know if I'm correct to be skeptical or if I just can't see it yet, but the BodPod put me at 21% body fat. According to their information, that puts me in the lean category, and the tester thinks I can drop down to around 18% by losing 5ish more pounds of fat. I'm so eager to bulk, but I don't want to get my hopes…
-
What does my body fat percentage appear to be?
(I posted this a couple days ago in the forum on gaining weight but didn't get much response, so I thought I'd try posting here in a busier forum. It might also be a more appropriate forum since I'm not actually ready to bulk yet.) I don't know if I'm correct to be skeptical or if I just can't see it yet, but the BodPod…

Bod Pod Results! From 32.9% body fat to 21%!
I also found out through metabolic testing that my metabolism is just on the cusp of being fast! MFP gives me 1950 calories to maintain with a lightly active lifestyle (1750 for a sedentary lifestyle) - the test says I can eat 2125 to maintain with a sedentary lifestyle!
-
Is this a bit scary and confusing, or have I simply not thought it through?
From the MFP blog on updated nutrition labels ... "On the new label, serving sizes will increase to reflect today’s larger portion sizes –– because, by law, serving sizes must be based on what people are actually consuming, not what they should be consuming."

Tofu after you press the water out of it?
I feel like the answer to this is in my brain, but I can't quite figure it out. The tofu I bought said the serving size is 85 grams and that there are 4 servings in the box. I pressed it for about thirty minutes to dry it out and then dry-fried it (cooked it in a pan with no oil or anything - just the tofu). I weighed it…

I binged my way into "obesity" and starved my way back out... UPDATE!!
If you're interested in my story, it's in my original post ... http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10292983/i-binged-my-way-into-obesity-starved-my-way-back-out-and-then-i-finally-saw-the-light/p1 I took some new progress pictures today, and I'm feeling pretty good about them, especially the legs! It's weird…

Balance? (The not-falling-over kind.)
My balance is, well, imbalanced. B) Pun fully intended. But seriously, I can balance much more easily on my left foot than my right. I discovered this a while ago when I started doing the standing quad stretch without holding onto anything. After a year I've gotten much better, although it's still easier when I'm standing…

Are diets that drastically reduce one of the macros sustainable if there's no medical necessity?
When I say diet, I just mean food intake. When I say sustainable, I guess I'm not sure just exactly how long I mean.. let's say years.
-
How consistent is your daily caloric intake?
I just hit my one-year mark last week and did some calculating. I found that my intake was very inconsistent. I was only at my goal (give or take 25 calories) 70 days of the year. I was under my goal 100 days, over my goal 135 days, and didn't log 61 days (not logging generally meant I was over). I'm more than satisfied…

What's wrong with benching in the rack?
I couldn't filter through that gym etiquette post to find a consensus. I fully intend to use the rack for benching once my husband goes away for work. How else am I supposed to safely increase my weight without a spotter? I'm not sure what the number of racks or how busy the gym is has to do with it. If I'm using it for a…

Holy moly, I just cut my friend list nearly in half..
I wasn't trying to be harsh, but I realized a few things. I don't particularly care to connect with people who don't interact in any way. I don't expect messages or comments or even likes. I don't mind offering support with little in return, but I would like to see something in your newsfeed other than your streak. Other…

Deadlifting nightmare!
The gym at our new duty station has only hex plates. It's terrible for deadlifting. But that's not the nightmare! Last night I dreamed that I was finally in a gym with circular plates and was going to set up to deadlift, but I couldn't find any 45s. They had 42s and 44s and 46s and kg plates but no 45s, and for some reason…

Anyone here learned to do any olympic lifts on your own?
I suddenly have this really strong desire to learn how to snatch. However, I have no desire to go to crossfit classes, and I definitely can't afford a trainer. I've just started looking into it and have found a few sites and videos that are supposed to help you learn on your own, but I was hoping to hear some personal…

I'd love to see some stomach results without core-specific exercises!
Just looking to see how people's stomachs have shaped up when there's been no core-specific exercises. They are my arch nemeses. I mostly lift and definitely incorporate full-body lifts that use my core, but I don't do crunches or sit-ups or anything like that. I do some walking and running, but I do that for…

I binged my way into "obesity," starved my way back out, and then I finally saw the light.
I was never fat as a child, although you couldn't have convinced me of that. I was overweight. Maybe chubby is the right word for it. The first time I remember going on any kind of diet was when I was twelve years old, and talk about unhealthy! I was probably exhibiting some disordered eating behaviors even then. I also…

People who say, "I'm well" in response to, "How are you?"
I just want to say that it is also grammatically correct to say, "I'm good." "Well" is an adverb that, in the sentence, "I am well," describes the verb "am." "Good" is an adjective that, in the sentence, "I am good," describes the subject/noun, "I." I would, in fact, argue that the, "I'm good," response is more in line…

How do I determine the number of calories I need?
I'm not bulking yet but looking forward to it, and I figure this question is also relevant to maintaining/recomping, which I'm trying to do now. Everything I've read says it's very difficult to determine how many calories are burned during strength workouts. So how do I know how much I should be eating on days when I lift?…

Critique my deadlift, version three.
Ok, this is only my second attempt since I got all your feedback, but I figured I'd check in again before I keep going. I see that my head/neck isn't right because I was looking in the mirror, but I'd love to hear feedback about the rest of it. I tried to focus on a better spine position, keeping my upper body tight, and…

Holy moly! I'm moving a million miles away from home!
In two days, we leave from Washington state to move to Germany! I'm not exactly sure why I posted this, except that it just hit me how soon it is :o

Critique my deadlift, version two.
I posted a video before, but I was just starting and wasn't lifting any real weight because I was trying to get the form down first. As y'all told me, it was hard to see from that what my form would truly look like when I actually had some weight on the bar. So here it is. Any constructive criticism would be much…

I'm recomping successfully!

A different kind of progress picture! My tattoo!
I think my tattoo is looking better now that my arm is smaller! What do y'all think? It's hard to tell because I couldn't get them the same size, but I see it mostly in her face and in the roses on the back.
