Anyone here learned to do any olympic lifts on your own?

I suddenly have this really strong desire to learn how to snatch. However, I have no desire to go to crossfit classes, and I definitely can't afford a trainer. I've just started looking into it and have found a few sites and videos that are supposed to help you learn on your own, but I was hoping to hear some personal experiences. Thanks!

Starting Strength by Rippetoe is a really great book to learn that stuff.

@feisty_bucket Thanks! Have you used his program? Were you then able to learn to snatch because it looks like he only teaches the power snatch?0

Yeah, I did those movements for about a year but stopped after hurting myself a bit doing the power snatch. And then couldn't think of a good reason to resume doing it, as I'm not competing.
Olympic lifts are a specialized field and I should really bow out here, as my knowledge is too limited.

They (snatch, clean) are challenging to do correctly. I'd really try to find someone who knows what he or she is doing to show you. There are books and videos, but they made more sense to me after I learned the basics.0

Nope. I only really work in Olympic partials, but I had someone help me learn the movement paths and keep an eye on me while I'm doing them.
I've been able to teach myself some technically tricky movements, but for oly work I'd definitely have some hands on experienced help.0 -
That's what I figured.. thanks!0
