Hit The 50 Pound Mark Today (For The Most Part With Exercise)
As of today, I have lost 50 pounds. Still have another 25 to go, but I'm two thirds of the way there. I have been watching what I eat somewhat, but attribute this for the most part to exercise. I increased my activity level from absolutely nothing to walking on average 7 miles per day (average of half of that being 4mph+…

Activity/Fitness Trackers
How many people use these or are considering using these? They are what got me started in doing all this stuff. They make it so easy to track everything because they do all the math for you. All you have to do is take your steps, record your workouts, and log your food in, and it does all the rest, and gives you updated…

For Those Who Monitor There Heart Rate
I have been walking every day for several months now, and monitoring my heat rate with a chest strap heart rate monitor. When I fist started I walked at closer to a 3.5 mph pace, was in zone 3 & 4 most of the time, and it was a challenge to walk 1 mile. Now, I can walk up to 5 miles at closer to (if not at) a 4 mph pace,…

Pulled The Trigger And Got A Garmin fenix 3
I started using activity trackers back around January, and initially I just wanted to track my steps and calories. Over the months I started getting more into exercise, and needed something with more than just a limited number of workout types. I started doing some research, and even tried a couple different devices. I…

It's A Fitness Watch... It's An Activity Tracker... It's A GPS Watch... It's A Polar M400
I started this whole quest just wanting an activity tracker to count my steps, motivate me to move more, and eat better. I started with the Jawbone UP24, went through a couple of the Fitbits, a Garmin Vivoactive, and just recently a Basis Peak (which I had high hopes for, but turned out to be a disappointment). As I…

How accurate is calculating Calories Burned Using Heart Rate?
I have a new activity tracker that I am trying out that uses heart rate, age, weight, gender, and duration to calculate calories burned for activities. I have compared it to calories burned using heart rate on the web, and it is very close to the same numbers. I also read that using heart rate is more accurate in…

Yummy
Fresh cabbage, sliced baby carrots, 2 handfuls of 50/50 spinach/greens, 2 handfuls of sweet cherry tomatoes (halved), and 3 cut up Oscar meyer wieners. Simmer (covered) with half a cup of water and 1 tablespoon of butter for 30 to 40 minutes (until carrots are tender). Yummy, and less than 500 calories...:)

Saw Something On The News This Morning About Exercise Being More Important Than Diet
Saw something on the news this morning about Coca Cola supporting a study that exercise is more important for weight loss than diet. I can see why they would support such a study because they sell sugary drinks, but it still seems interesting to me because I always felt that exercise is more important. Just wondering what…

Please Gauge My Approach And Progress (Pointers Welcome)
I am a 58 year old 5' 9" male, and weighed 225 lbs. (yes I was obese) when I started this quest. To make a long story short, I had internal injuries from an auto accident when I was in my mid 30's and could not exercise for a year. I got lazy and never started again. I made a career change at about 40 from a very physical…

Withings Smart Body Analyzer
Picked one of these up last night because my old scale kept freaking out on me, and I was beginning to question its accuracy. www2.withings.com/us/en/products/smart-body-analyzer/ The carpet feet don't work very well on plush carpet though. But what I did do was peel the glass top off my old scale, and put the Whithings on…

Waaa Waaa Waaa!!!
I am so sick of thread after thread after thread of... Waaa Waaa Waaa... I work out 8 hours a day, and only eat 1200 calories, and am not losing any weight. Waaa Waaa Waaa... I log all my food and weigh it, and exercise, and can't lose any weight. Waaa Waaa Waaa... I am starving myself, and still not losing weight. Waaa…

Good Way To Get A Complete Body Workout With The Least Number Of Activities
I was looking for ways to work all the muscle groups and cardio with the least number of activities and no more than 1 to 2 hours per day. I have to get my 10,000 steps a day in so I walk every day. most days I walk at my lunch hour for 3 miles at a 3.5 to 4 mph pace which puts me in the cardio zone for about 45 minutes. I…

Thinking About Getting A Kayak
I do a lot of walking and biking, so my legs are getting a pretty good workout. I want to do something for my upper body and I figure a kayak would be a great way to do that because it will work all the major muscle groups in my upper body, and give me a cardio workout as well. Every stroke will be working pulling muscles…

Bob's Lessons: Basic Cardio Conditioning
I have heard questions about how to be able to walk/jog/run/bike for longer, and that it seems like some people do it every day, and do not seem to get to the next level. I was a Master Fitness Trainer in the Army back in the 80's, and although the title may sound important, all it means is that I scored high enough on the…

Sorry About The Lazy
Yesterday I started a thread which is now closed. I called people lazy for not including exercise in their weight loss plan, and also called them a lump on a log if they did not include the exercise. I would like to apologize for this and say that "I am the one who was a lazy lump on a log" up until about 7 months ago when…

Who Is Trying To Lose Weight Just By Counting Calories Alone? And Why?
Just wondering how people are trying to lose weight without exercising. I can see if you have some type of issue where you absolutely cannot exercise, but anything other than that it just seems like laziness to me, and it would just seem like a life long battle of being hungry and thinking about food all the time. Is it…

No Longer In The Obese Range
57 year old male, 5'9", started at 225lbs. Down to 193lbs. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!! Still have another 43 pounds to get to 150, and I have no doubt I will get there within the next year. If it wasn't for my Vivoactive, I probably would have not been able to do this so easily.

How Many People Are Not Increasing Their Activity Level As Part Of Their Weight Loss Plan?
Are you including exercise into your plan in addition to cutting calories, or just cutting calories? I am doing both, and think it would be much harder to just cut calories. If I sit around all day, I think of eating more, and wind up using up most of my calories too soon in the day. When I increased my activity level with…

Calorie Buffer
I always leave about 500 calorie buffer for times that I just grab a cookie, 2 or 3 chips, or just little things that I don't log. I log all my food when I actually have meal, but not when I just grab small things in between. It seems to work pretty well as I have been loosing about a pound a week for over 6 months so far.…

Just Realized I Set My Weight Goal Wrong
When I started this 6 months ago, I was 225 pounds. I knew I had to lose weight so I just guessed and set my goal to 170 pounds. I'm a 57 year old male, 5 ft. 9 in. I just found a weight calculator on line and it says i should weigh between 123 and 169 pounds. DAMMIT!!! I thought I was half way to my goal!!! I just set my…

No Teeth
I have had bad teeth all my life, and had to have the rest of them removed just this past Wednesday. A total of 12 extractions in preparation for dentures, 7 of which had to be cut out because they were broken off at the gum line. I also had bone grafts done so I would have the option of dental implants if I decide to go…

My Story
I am a 57 year old male, 5 ft. 9 in. tall, and weighed 225 pound when I started all this, and this is my story. I'll start my story about the time I got out of the Army in 1989. in them days I could run 2 miles in 14 minutes, do 70 pushups in 2 minutes, do 70 situps in 2 minutes, and weighed 165 pounds. A couple years…
