53 and will start to try and gain
I am on my diet till April 29th (doing the Gold's Gym Challenge). I am 5'9", started at 217 on Jan 01, and am currently at 187, and project to be at 183 by the 29th. I am an ex tennis player and my college playing weight was bw 160-170, body fat was at a lowest with lots of weights and tons of cardio. So, I really question…

weekly weigh in day
It seems like MFP members either measure every day (and of those members lots measure a.m. and p.m.) or once a week. If you are a once a week weigher, which day do you weigh on and why did you pick that day?

Intermittent Fasting
Does anyone have thoughts on this type of diet? I heard that Dr. Oz had done a piece on it, but I can't confirm whether it was a suggestive covering of this diet or a cautionary coverage of it. I think Dr. Oz is a quack anyway, so in general do people have thoughts on whether this is a good type of diet? Any positives or…

digital scale for body fat%
My question is, if a person completely dehydrates and does not eat any food, may even hit the dry sauna prior to weighing, will the readings be off? And will they consistently be off either way, most possible to reading you have more then less body fat? I am asking because I am participating in the Gold's Gym challenge,…

no hunger
After a late night light dinner of ham and scalloped potatos, then a 2 am snack of oatmeal and mixed nuts, here it is 10 hrs later and I am not the least bit hungry. I wonder if it was the scalloped potatoes?

for men losing weight
Where is the last place to see weight come off, or does it depend on body type and is everyone different in where it comes off first and last?
-
blew it
On healthy nuts and non alcoholic beer. By 1,572 calories. And they were healthy nuts too. It is so easy to do.

100% Whole Grain Whole Wheat Bread
Is there ever a time while on a calorie reduction diet that you would eat this bread? I was told to avoid bread alltogether and in place of bread to get my carbs from vegetables and other non wheat foods. Your thoughts on this? It seems to fall into the same category of white rice and other white foods that carry the…

Resetting Calorie Intake Number
So I have now read too many things here about how MFP might not accurately calculate or recalculate calories to consume per day. I originally set my amount based on googling 20 or so different online sites, inputting my info then dropping the highest two amounts and the lowest two amounts, then took an average of the…

cheat day discovery with sodium and carbs
So I opened up my diary for anyone to look, to comment, to suggest anything or to butcher me. lol. So have at it. I have an excel spreadsheet that I track everything on a daily basis, more then would be expected and probably on the obsessive combulsive level. My first planned cheat day was last Saturday and it consisted of…

Why does working out affect your scale weight?
I weighed before going to treadmill this morning. After weighing I had one cup of coffee. I treadmilled for 45 minutes, and did more bathroom business then a cup of coffee weighs, but over the 1.75 hours after my initial weight, I had lost 0.2 on the scale. I know I was told to always weigh in and check body fat % and take…

weight tracking
I have found (for me) that the best way to track my weight, and it keeps me most motivated, is to compare each mornings weight to my weight exactly seven days before. So I am weighing daily but my tracking is versus the prior weeks weight. So while I may have some daily gyrations, I am on my 38th straight day of beating my…

body fat % dilemma solved
This morning (like always) I had my weekly weigh in having not eaten or drinking anything, zippo. I tried again at 5:00pm after a sedentary day, normal meals and lots of water like normal. Wow, my % was 1.4% less. This was on the Tanita TBF-410 body analyzer scale. I did it 2 more times back to back, same readings. For fun…

fat % not budging
I just had my weekly weigh in and lost 1.4 pounds but my fat % actually went up 0.1. In seven weeks I have lost 12.8 pounds but only have lost 1.0% of body fat. Any suggestions? Is this normal? It seems not. My diet seems solid.

tortilla chips and pinto beans
How long does it take the effects of high sodium from eating tortilla chips and pinto beans to work its way through our body's? I had no idea that 4 ounces of pinto beans has 450 mg of sodium. Damn.

Sodium Intake effect on weight study
This is MY OWN study, not something official. I tracked my sodium intake from January 27th to today and my daily weight in the AM every day. There seems to be AN EXACT CORRELATION between sodium intake and weight gain or loss the VERY NEXT DAY. What I now need to study (if possible) is adding the daily caloric intake (over…

adding scale weight to past days
Is there a way to go back in time in MFP and add weights to days that were left un-updated prior to today?

Week 5 Magic or Mixing up the Workout did this
On Tuesday I was stuck, had been stuck around the same weight for around a week. My guy at Gold's Gym had told me that if I stuck to what I was doing that I would see the weight rolling off in week 5 and 6. Well, I had also read to change up the workout routine after 3-4 weeks to mix up the body and take it out of the now…

Lag time for caloric daily net gain or loss to show up in weight gain or loss
So I am tracking my weight loss in many different ways (because I just love analysis). In one way of my tracking, I list my daily caloric intake versus my goal (the net + or - number). I track this in 7 day intervals and beside each total is my morning weight for that day. So, after 7 days I can add up my daily gain or…

Gold's Gym 12 Week Challenge
My wife and I am participating for fun and motivation. I looked on their website at the last years winners and WOW, hat's off to the winners. It seems like 40 pounds lost is the minimum people need to lose to catch a whiff of the glory. Pretty nice pay day for the winners. My cynical side tells me that $6,000 alone would…

Whey Protein Shake
I have been drinking one after my weight workouts at Gold's. I really like it. It satisfies my hunger and I know I am getting the protein I need before my next meal. Can you "pro's" suggest how you make your shakes (ingrediants and amounts of each?). I read about using a scoop of whey. Is there a scoop that comes with the…

Cheat Day and other body fake outs
Does this really work? Your experience? I guess I understand the logic of thowing the body off balance and faking it out to prevent it from storing fat for survival mode (that Darwinian thing). I have read that plateau's occur when the body gets used to the same caloric intake and the same workouts. YET, I read where none…
