Guided Setup
Is it better to put sedentary and -0- workouts a week then manually enter exercises and calories burned to get my daily calorie target? Or better to put number of activities and minutes per activity? My calories per day went from 1500 for -0- workouts to 2000 for my 5 workouts for 50 minutes per workout. Or, would I still…

Adding Running & Weight Training
I just discovered that when I log my minutes that I run/walk (that is calculated by my "Map My Fitness" app) then enter the calories, MFP ACCURATELY keeps those calories. HOWEVER, when I enter the time I worked out on weights and then enter the calories that a different online tells me I burned, MFP automatically enters a…

Weight Gain after being sick
So I had 'the bug' or whatever it was, 2 days of diarrhea and throwing up. intake well under usual so in a way I thought I would be artificially very low in weight this morning but the opposite was the case. I know one day does not make a trend. It's just amazing how the body works and that I gained weight by taking in so…

Pedometer App
My FitBit broke so I downloaded a pedometer app. I picked Editors Choice, now doubt a good one. It was way off. Downloaded my second one and tested it today. It said I walked 88 minutes but walked 75, it had the distance correct (close enough) to 3.5 miles, then said I burned 1,050 calories. LOL! I bet that is a very…

# of days losing wt vs my weight
Today for the first time ever I crossed over with the number of days on my current weight loss journey exceeding my actual weight. Today is day number 191 and I weigh 190.4, down from 214.6. Just a little personal victory and achievement.

working out - upper vs lower body
I was told that exercising legs will increase metabolism more than working out upper body because lower body has larger muscles. It this true?

Fitbit Question
I lift weights for 70 minutes which I log as 340 calories (per multiple google searches and this seemed close enough for me). In between sets I walk for a minute then do my next set, so I am pretty constant the whole time. I did a 22 minute walk after my workout. Fitbit gave me 65 minutes walking for 492 calories. So this…

olive oil
when oven roasting or cooking with olive oil should the number of table spoons be counted as calories or is olive oil or cooking oil considered part of the total calories that MFP puts for say oven roasted brussel sprouts?

Fitbit Small Number of calories burned
I take my dog for walks during the day and found that Fitbit will not always calculate a 'Calories Burned Walk'. My guess is that the heart rate has to be high enough and long enough for it to register a calorie burned walk. My question is if anyone else has experience with using these small amounts as total calories…

Counting steps or trusting walking apps
I read in our forum that others have problems with "map my walk" like I experienced with it saying I burned too many calories. So what is the most reliable method to get some half *kitten* idea of what we burn? Is it counting total steps in a day and there is then an overall formula that can be applied using sex and age x…

Best Goal Set Up
I can't sync my fitbit to mfp, but it (my fitbit) does calculate my calories burned based on my heart rate. Is it best to set my FitnessPal goal set up at Sedentary and 0 workout's per week and 0 min's per workout with my weight loss goal at 1 pound per week, then simply subtract my calories burned on my fitbit from my…

FitBit and MFP
It seems less complicated and easier to set my goal settings at SEDENTARY with my weight loss goal per week, then I can simply subtract what FitBit tells me my calories burned throughout the day are. I am worried about what I have read others say about sync'ing not being real time, or other variables that keep real time…

Goal Setup and counting steps
I am set at Lightly Active, 5 workouts per week, 60 min per workout. If I have a step counter, at the end of the day how many steps should I subtract from my total steps to account for what MFP assumes is automatically included in my MFP formula? In other words, how many steps of say 10,000 steps for the day would be used…

Lag time to match the scale with CICO
This may be unique to me, but I am seeing a consistent and pretty predictable pattern playing out. When I go over my daily calorie goal, my weight tends to go up 7-9 days later, and the same is true when I am below my daily calorie goal my weight starts going down in 7-9 days. Has anyone else noticed any kind of pattern…

"Holiday Party"
Our kids and a friend came over for a cheese tray, popcorn, dinner, desert, some other stuff was brought, so no way to count the calories. One of MY benefits from cutting calories is to be able to blow it out like last night with family and friends once in a while. I found "Holiday Party" all inclusive for 1,500 calories…

Just Egg vs Real Egg
I just tested "Just Egg" (plant based) after reading great reviews on it. It was a great new discovery since I love eggs. 1 large egg is +/- 3-3.25 tablespoons and is 70 calories. 3 tablespoons of "Just Egg" is 70 calories. So to bring a little more richness to the "Just Egg" I added 1 real large egg to 3 tablespoons of…

Does this assumption make sense
If my average loss of weight from 11:00pm - 7:00am is 2.0 pounds (8 hours), simple math is 1 pound per 4 hrs. I know this is not exact, and honestly it has a lot to do with having one large pee in the second 4 hours. My job causes me to sporadically get up at 3:00am for my day, otherwise I would wake up at 7:00am. What I…

Lifting in a calorie deficit
I learned in MFP that we can't gain muscle in a caloric deficit, but lifting keeps us strong and does burn calories. But if we don't lift during a deficit which burns calories and eats away at muscle, do we just burn more fat while lifting? Or do we still lose muscle no matter what. Or is there any way to know? This is a…

MFP Calorie Goal change as we lose
So I started at 211.2 and set my goal at 2 pounds per week loss. Calories per day to eat were automatically set by MFP to be 1,500 calories per day. So far so good. This morning I am at 201.2. I updated my goals as my weight is coming down (and have reset it several times as my weight has gone down) at it was still at…

Calorie Destroyers
So I get that any food in moderation is fine and we can make room and adjust for fun caloric foods. But which foods are ones that for you can make you wonder after eating them "What the hell, was that really worth it?" For me those would be french fries, potato chips (that come with sandwiches), salsa and tortilla chips,…

Surprises
My calorie count was doing great yesterday till a PM text from a friend that he and his wife were dropping by to deliver homemade Christmas Cookies. These were not low cal. Being a good friend I enjoyed a few of them while they spent some time with us. When I entered the cookies in my diary I realized that during the…

Map My Ride and Walk
I walked a particular route then rode the exact same route. Map My Walk gave me 61 minutes walked, 3.05 miles with 374 calories burned. Map My Ride gave me 19 minutes, 1.42 miles burning 144 calories. Am I missing something? If no one knows why this happens I will contact the Map people. Thanks.

Most weight lost starting
I realize that when we start our CICO that most of the big early weight loss is water, sodium, etc.... Then after that is all done the real weight loss begins. What was your biggest loss in weight starting your diet and over how many days did you loss that initial chunk of weight?

0.5 - 1.0 pounds per week goal
Something interesting is happening this weight loss time. I did this in 2013, 1015, 2016 and now this time starting on Oct 30th, and the first 3 times my goal was 1 - 2 pounds per week loss initially, then tapering off to hit my goal weight. One time I hit my goal weight, the next two were close. All three times I was…

When I hit weight loss goal
I am a 56 yo male and in good shape. I am losing weight at my goal. When I hit 180 (a little light for me) that is when I plan on hitting the gym and would like to add back weight that is muscle. I have lifted before during losing weight and this time just want to hit my weight goal first then build back up. Is there a…

Minimum Calories to eat per day
There are days when I feel like I could eat a lot fewer calories but I know that I should at least eat a minimum number of calories for general health. Is there a minimum for men while watching calories? I am not sure how to accurately ask this question. I just don't want to get in that destructive cycle where I eat too…

First 4 weeks
When you started your weight loss journey, how long did it take you to get those initial junk, water swolen 'whoosh' pounds off? After that the scale is less friendly, but it better correlates to CICO. Seeing these weight loss commercials on tv, they all say ""Lose 10-12 pounds in your first week (or two)". Yes, its not…

Popcorn - Never again
I finally counted all calories in making popcorn last night. Even in a wok, it took 7 tablespoons of Peanut Oil to get enough in the bottom of the wok to pop popcorn. Then I measured out 6 tablespoons of Orville Reddenbacher kernels. Total calories to pop this way: 120 cals per tablespoon peanut oil, x 7 = 840 calories 120…
