Is 1% of body weight the max that one should try to lose per week?

And that can become a bit too aggressive as you get closer to goal. As of today, I'm 147.8lbs, 7.8 lbs away from the top of my healthy weight range. I'm shooting for 1/2lb per week (ideal maximum weight loss for people with 15-25lbs to lose). 1.5lbs (or 1.478 if we're being pedantic) would be wayyyyyyyyy too much for me right now.
But back at my starting weight of 254lbs, I probably could've lost 2.5lbs per week safely and some weeks, I think I did.2 -
Yes, it is the max. It's not the required goal or the goal that everybody should have, as it may be too much for some people, but "max" is the correct term for it.2
