My wife and I am participating for fun and motivation. I looked on their website at the last years winners and WOW, hat's off to the winners. It seems like 40 pounds lost is the minimum people need to lose to catch a whiff of the glory. Pretty nice pay day for the winners. My cynical side tells me that $6,000 alone would be enough for people who are very over-weight to try anything and everything to hit those kinds of numbers and inches lost.
The before and after pictures are pretty amazing. If I was Gold's Gym I would offer an incentive for an added bonus for those who maintained their weight loss at the following years weigh in.
Also is you have already started your diet and excercise, you most likely miss out on that first 10 - 14 day weight loss bonanza when the body sheds the crud and fluids out of the body.
Any general thoughts on this Challenge?
One thing is for sure, the winners probably needed to stay pretty injury free and have the ability to maintain some pretty hefty motivation through the ups and downs that would come during that 12 week period.

I had my 3 week check in and had lost 4.8 pounds and several inches and was really happy, since my goal is to lose 1 pound per week, utilizing a weight lifting and cardio exercise regime along with MFP calorie counting. But I am currently kinda stuck in a up down range, but still losing some, so as long as I am on track to maintain my 1 pound per week loss I will be ecstatic. To think that people are losing 30-60 pounds over these 12 weeks is mind boggling!!!!!0
