Treats & how to stop at one serving - The Laziness Method
I use The Laziness Method. Just get a serving of your treat out of the cupboard, then go settle down with it and enjoy eating it. I just don't bother going getting more. Embrace the Lazy!

Running Garmin that works with MFP?
Is there a running Garmin that works well with My Fitness Pal? I had my eye on the Forerunner 235, but a friend says it doesn't send your total steps/calories burned to MFP, and that's a deal breaker. I love my Fitbit Charge HR because it works great with MFP, but it's getting old and I'd like all the data you get with…

One Year of Running - Comparison Pic
A year ago, when I was 48, I was walking round the lake and felt an irresistible urge to go faster. I ran 500 metres, and was absolutely knackered, but was totally hooked. In the past year, I've run 41 parkruns, lots of middle distances, and three half marathons. When I started running, I'd already lost 18 kg counting…

Calorie Counting vs Money and Time
It's so easy. You keep tabs on your bank balance. Just treat your calorie balance the same way. Logging in MFP is just a couple of minutes less time scrolling on Facebook. Win!

Help me with the maths
A friend has lost 22 lbs in six weeks. She started at 220 lbs. What's her average daily calorie intake? She might do a half hour walk a day but is otherwise sedentary. I think she's fairly short (5'4"?) and in her fifties. Just wondering if she's dangerously undereating.

Don't deprive yourself or you'll never last the distance!
Don't deprive yourself or you'll never last the distance! How many times and how many ways can we say this, so that the message spreads out past the crash diets, scams, and urban myths that make up the weight loss industry? Why do so many new MFPers think they need to survive on salad and green tea, then wonder why they…

What can you wear now?
I love my new wardrobe! It's actually comprised of a bunch of new things and some old favourites, such as: * Shift dress I made from a sari * Issey Miyake Vogue Pattern skirt from 1984 * Black fine-pleated skirt of my mother's from 1964. Here's an album of mirror selfies:…

The Exerciser's Creed
From the amazing and intelligent fitness writer, James Fell: The Exerciser's Creed "I lay in a hospital bed hooked up to IV morphine that barely touched the pain. The emergency room physician told me my lifting days were over. I knew he was wrong, however, because I will not quit. I remember when I started working out 22…

Open diary -vs- closed diary
I've had my food diary set to "Public" ever since I started at MFP. I've lost 32 kg (70 lbs) since April. I think having your diary viewable, even if just to friends, makes you less likely to do things you're ashamed of. (I've never had anyone criticise my diary. But I've had one person ask me if they could have a printed…

Giving in to cravings is great!
Giving in to cravings is great! (For me.) Why should we always deny ourselves what we love? That's turning food into guilt, a "sin", a superstition. I would never be able to plan my meals if I didn't give in to "cravings". I wouldn't know what to eat. I eat what I feel like, within my calorie limit. If I "crave" something,…

"Calories burned" reading on Fitbit dashboard
I have a Charge HR. What's the point of the Fitbit "Calories burned" reading? I understand the point of "Calories eaten", but where does Fitbit get your goal for "Calories burned"?

Australian Women: What's your height, weight, and size clothing?
Also, have you found it weird getting used to your new size? Me: 176 cm (5 ft 9 and a half inches) 63 kg I'm size 10 or Small in most things, but that seems weird to me since I'm quite tall and that's not "small". (I started a new thread since the long thread is full of meaningless posts because of the lack of…

Does your remaining fat "redistribute" after losing weight, or is that a myth?
Does your remaining fat "redistribute" after losing weight, or is that a myth? I know fat doesn't move around, but if you're at a low but healthy BMI, after hitting maintenance and continuing to exercise, does body recomposition mean you gradually have less problem areas? What's the relationship between recomp and…

From obese to goal in exactly a year!
I lost 36 kg / 79 lbs in exactly a year. I ate chocolate every day. I drank alcohol nearly every day. I ate whatever I most wanted, within my calorie limit. Don’t worry, “clean” freaks, that included a lot of seafood and veg. I did lots of walking, running, and bodyweight exercises, and I ate most of those calories back,…

Fitbit suddenly gave me nearly double my steps
I just did a 10 km run and finished at around 9am. When I was nearly home, my Fitbit Charge HR buzzed to tell me I'd done my 12,500 step goal. At home, I opened the Fitbit app, and it says I've done nearly 22,000 steps! Anyone else with similar problems? Daylight savings ended at 2 am this morning, but I don't think that…

iPhone 6 app crashes when tracking exercise runs
The app crashes every 5 km lately. I've switched to using Strava instead, but I gather the calories calculated in Strava are overestimated. Anyone know more or how to fix the Fitbit app?
