Do you ever want to give up?
Sigh, sometimes I just want to get an XXL velour tracksuit and just give up, eat fried chicken and pizza and gain 300 lbs. This is so much work for so little weight loss. While I'm at it, I want to quit my job and get a disability of some sort, live in a trailer and stop brushing my teeth. Seriously, I feel like gthe guy…

Mexican Quinoa Souffle
So I made this dish last night and it was so good I just had to share it. I cooked a cup of quinoa with onions and peppers, tossed it with with a can of vegetarian chilli (but meat chilli would work too) and some sauteed diced zucchini. Put it in a lightly-oiled 8" square pyrex. In food processor, mixed 8 oz container of…

Your Favorite Crazy Calorie Comparisons!
It's amazing how very different meals have the same calories. One of my favorites: Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich* = 400 calories McDonald's Quarter Pounder, hold the cheese: 410 calories *two slices light wheat wonder bread, two tablespoons peanut butter, one tablespoon jelly

Amazed I'm not fatter
So, I have some friends coming in from out of town so I have decided to take them around the corner to a tavern with the best burgers and fries around. In preparation, I logged a comparable cheeseburger, fries and three pints - and it is my entire day's calorie goal! I haven't gone out for burgers and beer since I started…

Winter's on the way
Now that the temps have changed, I am having a harder time staying within my calories. Seems like my body wants to put some weight on. I'm fighting back with filling yet lower calories bean soups and squash. How do you keep your inner bear at bay?

A Man and His Belly: Scale and tape meaure don't agree
According to the scale, I've lost 15 lbs. Yet I look the same, my belly is just as big (43" around at the belly button), and the pants that were tight are still tight. This is the exact opposite of an NSV.Anybody have this experience?

Hypothyroid folks
So tracking and cutting calories has been great in several ways. By eating less, I have improved my acid reflux. By tracking food all day I have reduced hypoglycemic episodes I used to have. And I've saved money on lunches. However, apart from losing a barbel's worth of weight the first week or two (which I assume was…

In defense of salt
We've all heard that we consume too much sodium. According to this article, however, people naturally regulate their salt intake in a fairly similar manner throughout the world, which leads me to think that if you focus on low salt foods, your body will tell you to eat more to get the salt it wants. This reminds me of the…

Low Blood Sugar Attacks
Sometimes, especially after exercise or just sweating a lot, I get all shaky and have the urge to eat about 4 bowls of cereal. Now that I am on a diet, this is not an option. Last time it happened I fell into bed and slept for 2 hours. I consume over half my calories as healthful snacks, eating fruit, vegetables, nuts and…

why resolute dieters fail
Anybody read this? It's pretty confusing, but the gist seems to be that the losing weight is slow and difficult, keeping it off even harder. Guess we all knew that. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/20/health/20brody.html?sq=weight&st=cse&gwh=6B97BAD7F7309F3D192315E1875D0041&scp=2&pagewanted=all

Big Guys, what's your goal
So I told the Doctor today that I was trying to get down to 200 from my current 223 (I topped out at 230). He said he thought that was way too low. I'm 6'1" and have a pot belly I'd like to get rid of. What do you think?

No progress and just can't eat less
So 40 days in, I have consumed about 3,500 calories over quota, but I should still have lost SOMETHING. I lost some water weight the first week but since then, I have just fluctuated 1 lbs up, 1 lbs down. I get hypoglycemic, so it's really hard to eat less. The only option seems to be to add an hour on the treadmill before…

How many of you are in pain?
So I am 32 and a few pounds short of obesity. Every morning I wake up so stiff I can barely move. I hobble up the stairs to the bathroom like an old man, my feet aching and my knees stiff. Even after sitting on the couch for an hour, I am just incapacitated. Yoga doesn't help and neither does aspirin. I do bicycle 7 miles…

I need a new scale
My scale (a high-end model from the mid-'80s) fluctuates about 4 lbs over/under (as in, I can step on it 3 times in one minute and be 219, 222, and 226. So I need a new scale. The reviews of ones on Amazon seem to suggest that lots of scales are inconsistent, like the one I have. Anybody have a favorite scale? I am not…

Calories Burned on Treadmill
When I spend an hour walking at 2.5 mph on the treadmill, I am completely sweaty and exhausted, yet an hour of walking at that same speed leaves me far less tuckered. What gives? I feel like I am burning more on the treadmill, but maybe not.

Skipping Breakfast
I eat a 200-300 calorie protien-rich breakfast every day because everybody says you have to. However, I am hungry all day. If I skip breakfast, I tend to have an early lunch and am not hungry all day. What gives?

Female Body Image
Hi, this is a relationship question more than a weight loss question, but I know this is a group that can give me the best answers. I have a fiance who is beautiful. She doesn't think so, choosing to focus on her flaws. Yes, she has some flaws - stretch marks around her arms, a few bruises and scars on her legs from…

does the same cardio every day still count?
I don't like exercise for exercise's sake, but I am lucky enough to be able to commute by bike - about 8 miles/day at average speed of 12 mph on flat ground with a fixed gear bike. According to the computer, that burns 400 calories/day, but should I really count that against my food since it's just part of my daily routine?

Just started, sudden loss, what's going on?
6 days into my new diet following week of caloric debauchery. I think I was probably eating 3,000 calories/week and I have cut back to 2100. I am 6'1' with a desk job and I commute 8 miles/day on my bicycle. First weigh-in, 230. Yesterday, 225. Is that normal to have such a sudden drop when you first start? Should I be…

Getting fat eating healthy!
I have a pretty healthful diet. No soda, no sweets, lots of fruit, vegetables and whole grain. And yet my weight has just kept creeping up, from 175 at 18 years old to 230 at 32 (6'1" tall). Three days of tracking my diet show me just how easily you can get fat eating healthful food. I have been STRUGGLING to keep within…
