Those of you with a Garmin 5X
I see the prices have dropped on these. Now I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading from a 3HR. Besides the mapping, what will a 5X do that the 3 HR won't do and would you upgrade from a 3HR for it? I already have wireless earbuds with 4gb storage, so the music is not needed, so I'm not looking at the Plus models. Size wise…

Does weightlifting counts as cross training?
Putting together a half marathon plan, but I already lift 3 times a week. Does it make sens to count that as cross training? Or do I need to spend time on a bike as well? Thanks

InBody Analyzer really wrong?
So I signed up for a PT at the gym, and one of the first things he did was have me stand on the body analyzer, hold the arm things and it spat out a fat% Said 19.7% BF. It's wrong. It's really wrong. My home scale (I know these things are crap) say 27% and given how I look, that is much more believable. We both knew it was…

Is 3 half's a month too much?
Currently running ~45k a week, longest ~15k. June there are 3 half marathons I'm looking at. June 2, 9th and 23rd. Plan is to have 2 under the belt before then (Feb 23 and April 14). Is 3 in a month too much or do others do that?

How much does dieting impact your performance?
Commented elsewhere on this, but I'm wondering how much a deficit impacts performance? Thinking about running personally. Been doing a 5K parkrun most Saturdays. On my 50th run I kinda went all out and did what was, for me, a decent time. 28:24. Not a PB, but close. Was dieting and losing ~1.25 lbs per week at that point.…

Cross country skiing vs running
Might be a dumb question, but I'm trying to keep up at 25-30km per week right now. Not training but not wanting to slow down. So 5km T/T/Sat, 10-15K Sunday and maybe one or two short treadmill runs (2.5km) after lifting if there is time. But the snow is coming and I paid for a pass at a cross country area (both me and my…

Tracking shoe mileage - Garmin connect
Anyone using Garmin devices figure out a good way to track shoe mileage when using both trail and road shoes? I've got my road shoes as my default for running, but picked up trail shoes last night (as my last trail run in road shoes was a bit scary after a rain) and can't find a trail run option for tracking mileage. I run…

Question on MFP and calories
Quick question on the MFP calorie calc. My NEAT is ~2300 calories. I've got ~40 lbs to lose and am over 200. I could afford to lose 2 lbs a week for a bit. If I set my weight loss goal to 2 lbs a week, I know MFP will give me 1500 cals. But does it start adding in exercise cals right away? So say I go for a 5K run and burn…

Half marathon plan. Questions.
So, you can thank @TavistockToad for inviting me here :) I've got, what I think, are competing plans and I'm wondering if I can sort them out, or if I need to drop something. I want to run a 1/2 marathon June 10th. So I want to start training for that. I think I'm okay on timing for it, but I also want to do a swim across…

Lifting for runners
So, readin one of the MFP blogs today. https://blog.mapmyrun.com/common-strength-training-mistakes-runners-make/?utm_source=FACEBOOK&utm_medium=FB MapMyRun&utm_term=Article&utm_content=Fitness & Training&utm_campaign=20180512 Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but it does seem to suggest that something like Strong Lifts…

How long to get used to/break in a new type of shoe?
Just curious how careful I should be going to a new type of shoe with a different drop. I've been running in Asics GT-1000 (10mm drop) but wanted to try a mid drop shoe and bought a pair of Hoka with a 4mm drop. Is this something I need to take slowly or is it okay to go run 5K in them. Did 2.5k on the treadmill and liked…

Fenix 3HR for Triathlon?
Costco has the Fenix 3 HR titanium with sapphire glass on for $440 Cdn. MEC is $650 for the same. I was thinking of picking up a Forerunner 935 in the spring (April), but am wondering if the 3 HR is worth it for the price. The 935 is $680 but I'm worried that you can't get the Sapphire glass with it. Looks like the 3 will…

Improving 5K time "just a little bit"
Yeah, I know this isn't the right question or goal, but I want to get past the 30 minute mark for a 5K and I'm so close. Last Saturday parkrun was 30:18. Best has been 30:06. I'm only going to do a couple more park runs his year as I'm going to be hitting X country ski trails instead, but would like to finish the year off…

Triathlon questions
So, I've been walking/running 5K regularly, riding to and from work and have this dumb idea in my head to do a triathlon. August 2018, so, a year down the road. I've joined the Y so I can start swimming. I plan to do the short Tri, so 5K run, 20K bike and 750m swim. Sat with the coach at the Y and went over things but…

Question on Garmin VAHR and Stride length
So, I ran on the treadmill this morning and, as per the treadmill, did 5K. Now I'm trying to hit a 30 min 5K, so I ran at 6.2 mph per the treadmill, faster than I normally do. Now I couldn't run the full 30 mins so 5K took me ~35, but the distance on my watch showed as 3.9K. I know this is because I'm running at the same…

Having trouble logging the body parts I've been eating
I know someone linked to a picture of body parts. Can someone link to it again? All I've got left is an arm and I need to log the brains I've been eating. Plus I'm really having issues running right not. I just seem to be dragging myself along and people keep trying to shoot me in the head.

Garmin not synching correct
My Garmin just seems to be pushing through calories lately, but not the activities. Not a huge deal but seems to have gone sidewayes in the last week. So on my exercise tab, I no longer see "Running (jogging), 5.2 mph (11.5 min mile) " and just see "Garmin Connect calorie adjustment " for doing the same thing. This is…

10K in 6 weeks when I can run 5K?
So I can run 5K, slowly. Getting talked into a 10K in 6 weeks. Basically have 3 weeks to decide to either do 5K or 10K. Is it reasonably doable to go from a consistent 40min 5K (do 2-3 times a week) to 10K? Or am I just asking to hurt myself? Plan would be to run M/W/F, (5k/5k/2.5k), lift Tu/Th and do a long run Saturday.

Backpack for carrying a smallish dog? K9 Sport Sack?
Someone had a thread about a backpack for kids, and it got me thinking I need something to carry one of my dogs who has a bum lag. She's a Westie so ~ 23 lbs. She's a bit big for all the backpacks we've seen in the pet stores, but we found the K9 Sport Sack online. Has anyone tried one of these and are they decent? I'm in…

Atheists are hurting the West
