Anyone else doing this barefoot?
I have tried this programme twice before and both times crashed out. The first time I think it was from expensive but wrong for me shoes, and the second time I possibly pushed too far too fast. I have just started it again from week one day one, and this time will stick to the programme and not be impatient. While I think…

New group for anyone hooked on a particular food!
I struggle to eat chocolate in moderation and this is for anyone who has that one food they just can't give up or eat in reasonable amounts! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1643-beating-the-food-demons

Need advice from barefoot runners
How long does it take for the arch, foot, ankle etc to stengthen/adapt to barefoot running?? I made the switch to try to overcome knee problems and have been doign C25K barefoot. Did week 2 day 1 yesterday which is 20 minutes of 60 seconds running 90 seconds walking. Felt great during and after, but have a mild niggle in…

Seriously, what does "toning up" mean??
Does it actually equate to losing fat and/or gaining muscle, or is it actually possible to transform wobbly fat into firm fat?? Or is it just a nebulous word given to justify "gentle" exercise??

Icing as a precaution??
I have just started week 2 of C25k and am hoping my knee cooperates this time. I had never had knee problems in my life until late 2011 when I started running 10 mins on a treadmill as part of a gym programme. Within days I was in lots of pain and had to stop all high impact exercise for weeks. When I got back into it…

Weekly calorie burn goals
What have you got your weekly calories burned goal set at? Mine is 900 and while this week I have nearly done double that, I often find it hard to hit, which may be partly due to burning less calories at a lighter weight. I would like to aim for 1000 a week but seldom have a lot of time to dedicate to exercise. The past…

Anyone else trying to give up chocolate in 2012
I am seriously hooked on chocolate - eat far too much daily and while I am not gaining I know it is undermining the other good work I do. I really want and need to cut down in 2012 and wondered if there are others struggling with the same thing (doesn't have to be chocolate could be another food demon) and wanted to form a…

Logging jumping jacks
How is everyone logging this?? Is there anyone here about my size (5'4" 117lbs) with a HRM who knows how many cals this burns??

I started losing weight when.....
What do you believe was the most significant change you made that led to successful weight (fat) loss? For me it was changing to the leangains style of eating (eating all my calories in an 8 hour window). That has helped me drop 9 lbs of nearly all fat, fat the same number of calories and never feel hungry or deprived.…

Funny NSV
My 7 year old son asked me today who was the strongest in the house and asked if I had "ANY" muscles. He told me to show him my biceps which I did. Now they are not amazing but they are reasonably good when flexed. His reaction was to pretend to faint and say "holy crap Mum I didn't know you had THOSE!" The other NSV was…

C25K attempt three!
I have tried this programme twice before and both times crashed out. The first time I think it was from expensive but wrong for me shoes, and the second time I possibly pushed too far too fast. I have just started it again from week one day one, and this time will stick to the programme and not be impatient. While I think…

Does 3x10 = 30?
When it comes to cardio, does 3 lots of 10 minutes, say on the elliptical equate to 30 minutes solid? Or are there advantages over doing either 3 shorter workouts or one longer one? I know a lot of health promotion stuff talks about doing short sessions several times a day for those who would otherwise be couch potatoes,…

Bad news about exercise calories?
I have heard that when you calculate calories burned through exercise, you are supposed to subtract your resting calorie burn. Eg if your normal RMR is say 60 calories per hour, and you exercise for an hour and burn 240 calories, you should only consider that to be an additional 180 calories burnt through exercise (240 -…

Does anyone else HATE hearing this??
"You are looking well" Is it just me or do others automatically think omg they think I have gained weight???!!!! I guess having previously been underweight and then got back to health, hearing it then has meant that when I hear it now I associate it with weight gain!

Anyone do only or predominantly body weight exercises?
I am looking for a home strength workout for the weeks when work and life mean I can't get to the gym. I have dumbells ranging from 7 to 13lbs, and my own body! Can anyone recommend a good resource for bodyweight and minimal equipment strength training?

Why do you exercise?
Be honest! I recently read a quote I have really taken on board. "Use your diet to create an energy deficit. Use exercise to build or maintain strength (and fitness)." I must admit I usually exercise to burn calories and allow me to either eat more or create a bigger calorie deficit. I of course also exercise to get…

Intermittent fasting - who has tried it?
Especially interested in hearing from people who have tried more than one method and found one better than the other in terms of results. I generally do a leangains approach, and today tried the Eat Stop Eat 24 hour fast. Managed about 21.5 hours then caved before I ate my children. I will try it again but not sure in the…

Suddenly weight doesn't matter anymore :-(
Have just discovered a not very good looking growth on my neck that I am sure is either new or has significantly changed. Am going to the doctor tomorrow to get it checked out, but am quite nervous as my mum died from skin cancer. Am hoping it will be ok and I can go back to worrying about less important things.

Hunger - a state of mind?
I wonder how often we really get hungry and how much we eat from conditioning or habit or other reasons ie boredom, emotions, because it's lunchtime etc. It's after 5pm, I last ate at 10pm last night, and I am truly not hungry as have been massively busy all day. No rumbling stomach, have just done 20 mins on elliptical…

Link between heart rate and metabolic rate
Is there one? I know people use HRMs to estimate calories burned during exercise and at rest, but wondered if there is a correlation between a person's heart rate and their metabolic rate. (With the probably exclusion of athletes) I am especially interested as I have been on beta blockers which are known to lower…

Knowing when to stop
For those who are near or at goal weight, how do you know when to stop and how to change your goals?? I am pretty much at the weight I thought would be a healthy goal for me, and need to figure out where to from here. Obviously I have other fitness and strength goals, but would be keen to hear from other who either are or…

C25K December
Who wants to start this up next month? I started in November but knee issues have had me out until now.

Confused and more than a bit scared
Just been to doctor after having a week of really low pulse. He noticed last week it was 44, today it is 38. And I am not fit enough to justify that! I have been on beta blockers since May 2009 for SVT which is sudden random bursts of rapid pulse in my case around 240. Since being on the pills I haven't had any problems or…

I think I just disproved starvation mode!
My name is Emma and I eat below 1200 calories a day (lol) Due to medication I am on which lowers metabolism and particularly decreases fat oxidation I have to eat under 1200 or I gain. When I started on here I got slaughtered and told I would lose muscle and hold onto any fat etc etc. Well guess what, I have lost 9lbs, and…

Affairs and crap relationships
I know this is a volatile topic but I know a lot of people who stay in crappy relationships but have affairs and it puzzles me why they don't just leave! Can anyone suggest why people stay in relationships that are past their use by date? It seems to me it's most often the women who leave, while men more often stay. And…

If you had to choose......
Between your ideal body (the best body YOU can have) and a beautiful face, which would you choose?? Men, you can comment too - tell us which is more important to you in a woman - a pretty face or a great body? And don't be greedy and say both lol.
