Welcome!
I am aiming for 100g protein a day - not anti carbs but find I feel better with less carbs and more protein. Looking forward to getting ideas on different ways of getting protein in, and swapping recipes.

What's your favourite running app and what do you love about it? I tried Runkeeper yesterday and liked it and will try Nike running today.

Swimming in the COVID era
Hi all. Wondering how everyone is getting on with their swimming in these crazy times! Here in New Zealand, where I am came out of lockdown five days ago, after three weeks of pool closure. We have been relatively fortunate here, whereas our main city (Auckland) remains locked down. Most of the pool events have been…

Going from vegetarian to Mediterranean Diet?
Hi everyone I have been meat free since Christmas Eve 2019. After watching a couple of interesting Netflix documentaries I decided to cut out meat to see if it would have a positive effect on my mildly elevated blood pressure. Long story short, it hasn't. I am interested in the Mediterranean Diet and wondered if anyone has…

Results from swings
Hi all I've just picked up my kettlebell from where it's been gathering dust for a long time. Keen to get back into the swings and wondered if anyone could share their routine and results. I'm a swimmer so am hoping to increase endurance and fitness - just did one set and feel very unfit!!!

Mouth hunger - how to manage it?!?!
Hi everyone I have a huge problem with mouth hunger - wanting to eat even if I am not truly hungry. It's the process of eating, of having something in my mouth that is my biggest challenge. And chewing gum doesn't help. Does anyone else struggle with this or have you found a way to conquer it?

Recovering from ab strain
Hi all I am recovering from a mild abdominal strain from pushups (not the first time I've had one!) It's still too painful to do pushups, which I want to get back into, but am wondering if there are gentle ab exercises I can do to build up better strength before I restart pushups so this doesn't happen again. I have…

What do you do apart from swimming?
Hi everyone Keen to know what other training people do. I am going to be doing my first ever aquathon in October so am going to need to start running. I also want to get a LOT stronger (for a competitive swimmer I am a complete weakling) so hope to get some good gym training in as we hit our winter here now.

Probably a dumb question but.....
Why do you have to go high fat if you want to do low carb? I'm exploring low carb options (not keto) and they all seem to recommend higher fat than protein. Curious why this is, and if there are eating plans that recommend protein>fat>carbs.

Cra(m)p!!!!
Does anyone know what causes cramp in the feet? I have never in my entire swimming life had cramp, but the last two nights I've got it during training and it's been excruciatingly painful!!! Have just gritted my teeth and swum through it but it's horrible!!!

Mitigating sleep problems from evening workouts
Hi all Due to work and family commitments, most of my training has to take place in the evenings during the week. Training for me is anything between 2.5 and 4.5km sessions in the pool (I'm a competitive swimmer). I've noticed that evening workouts seems to disrupt my sleep pattern, making me even less of a morning person…

September pushup plank and squat challenge
Here is the new thread for the new month!

September pushups challenge
I am thinking about trying to do about 450 pushups a week. Obviously I'll need to do more sets than I have been (usually do five sets which gives me a total of 60 to 70) but that would mean I could end up doing nearly 2000 in September. That's if my arms don't fall off! I usually only do pushups for a few days then lose…

August pushup plank and squat challenge
Here is the August thread. I fell off the wagon big time so need to get back into it!!

Anyone with exercise induced bronchoconstriction/asthma?
Does anyone suffer from exercise induced bronchoconstriction? A couple of weeks ago I experienced a sudden dramatic decrease in my exercise tolerance, especially in running. My blood work all came back perfect - no issues with low iron or B12 - doc even ruled out slim possibility of pulmonary embolism as I had recently…

July pushup squat and plank challenge
This is for anyone who wants to improve their pushups, squats, or planks. Do one or two or all three - there are no rules about how often or how many, this is just a way of supporting each other and cheering each other on!

Favourite sets
Would love to read other people's favourite challenging sets! I am on the hunt for some new inspiration, especially IM sets. Trying one tomorrow and will post it here if it's a good one!

Easy chicken recipes
Hey everyone. We eat a lot of chicken and I am getting bored with my regular stirfries or burritos or carbonara. Has anyone got any easy non expensive recipes that would be good for a family of four - preferably reasonably quick prep and cook.

Can't even do ONE proper pushup!!
That awkward moment when you realise you've been doing pushups wrong all your life! I've been committing the sin of flaring out my elbows, and have just discovered that I can't even do a single proper form pushup. And that's coming from a competitive swimmer!! Looks like it's back onto the knees to build enough strength to…

In sickness and in health!
When it comes to illness, when is it OK to keep swimming and when should you skip it? Are there any general guidelines around this? I've woken up with a sore throat, headache and general aches so not sure if I should still swim or take the day off.

Clean eating = trouble sleeping??
Hi everyone. I've recently started clean eating, and I'm now finding it hard to sleep. I'm still hitting my goals in terms of calories and macros so not sure why sleep is suddenly elusive as nothing else has changed. Is this a normal thing when you cut out junk food?

Water in the ear
Anyone know how to get stubbornly trapped water out of the ear? I have never had a problem until yesterday, and it's still stuck. Have tried the gravity method, cupping my hand for suction, and the hair dryer to no avail. Have even tried the odd suggestions of standing on my head and also jumping up and down. The awful…

Question for open water swimmers
Hey everyone I am thinking about taking up open water swimming for a change from my pool swimming which is all I've ever done. My partner is an open water swimmer and this weekend we went to Taupo and swam in the lake. It's mid spring here and the water temperature was 14 degrees Celsius. I wore a wetsuit but found…

Swimming after tooth extraction
Hi everyone I am getting a lower molar pulled out tomorrow and wondering if anyone has had that done and how long until you could swim again??

Racing suits
Who has ever worn one? I bought one about ten months ago and have to do a swim in it today. Am dreading it as I recall trying it on when I bought it and it is the world's most demoralising experience! Need to try a swim in it to make sure I don't split the bum diving in lol. Not looking forward to this!!!!

Did you cross-train today?
Keen to hear what other sports or training others do apart from swimming. I did zilch today but did 5000m on the rower yesterday.

Anyone do/done aquathlon???
Hi everyone I am a swimmer who tolerates running and am thinking about getting into aquathlons Keen to hear from anyone who has done them, particularly around what you wear for the swim/run. Don't really want to spend lots of money, and hoping that a swimming tech suit would work if I just throw a t-shirt over it for the…

ZUU training anyone?
Just went to my first ZUU class tonight. Was a bit nervous as a friend of mine went two weeks ago and was almost totally crippled the next day. Was also concerned it might irritate my rotator cuff tears. The instructors are both navy officers but they talked to me before we started and one has had rotator cuff issues too.…

Who eats eggs every day??
Hi all I've been an egg whites only person for years, probably due to a misplaced desire to minimise fat and calories when I was a young adult female! My 11yo son made me eggs on toast after swimming training a few weeks ago, and my love of whole eggs was restored lol. I have read lots about the benefits of eating eggs…
