Hi everyone

I am a swimmer who tolerates running and am thinking about getting into aquathlons

Keen to hear from anyone who has done them, particularly around what you wear for the swim/run. Don't really want to spend lots of money, and hoping that a swimming tech suit would work if I just throw a t-shirt over it for the run part.

Yes, I did my first this summer. I wore a sports bra and running knickers underneath a shortie wetsuit, then just whipped the wetsuit off and pulled tshirt, shorts and tri belt on at transition. Don't bother with socks, just wear your run shoes. Be prepared for them to be stinky and damp afterwards though!

The tri belt was the best purchase, you can just clip your number on and don't have to faff about with safety pins, etc.

You could consider a swim skin but for your first one go with a comfortable bathing suit and just put on a t-shirt (not cotton) for the run.

Something else you may want to consider are triathlon shoes vs regular running shoes (use bungee laces so that you're not fumbling with tying them up). They're intended to be worn with bare feet, pulling socks onto wet feet is a gigantic PITA

Your approach should work fine assuming you'd be comfortable running in the tech suit. Good suggestions have been made by others regarding wearing a comfortable suit and running with no socks. Just try these out before a race to be sure that chafing isn't a problem.

I'm assuming that you would not be using a wetsuit, correct? If that is the case, then just throw on a tee shirt, race belt with number, Visor/hat, shades, shoes (no socks, just speed laces) and go!

Good luck. Looking forward to reading your first race report.
