Indoor stadium running is back, y'all!!!
US Bank Stadium opens TODAY for running and rollerblading! The Minnesota Distance Running Association used to sponsor winter indoor runs at the Metrodome and it was an awesome alternative to the dreadmill. I even met a couple of My Fitness Pals there :) Anyway, it's not quite as cheap or as frequent as the dome runs were,…

10/5-10/6/13: Medtronic TC 5k/10k/10M/Full Marathon
Twin Cities Marathon Weekend!!! Super fun, the year before last this was my first-ever 10k, & last year it was my first 10 mile. Both awesome. Hoping to win a spot in the 10M this year.

6/22/13: Grandma's Marathon/Half-Marathon
Anyone out there doing Grandma's? Wait, that sounds wrong... ...I'd like the half to be my one half for this year. Lottery opens next month so we'll see if I get in. If so, it's on!

YMCA members
As I browsed the Workout Buddies - Gyms thread, I thought it might be nice to start separate threads for the different chains of gyms. Not to divide the group or anything, but just to make it easier for folks to meet up if they are so inclined. So since I go to the Y, I'm starting a Y thread. My home Y is the one in Coon…

How do you keep from signing up for too many races???
Seriously...how do you not register for every single fun race you hear about? I know by this time most of us have already committed (at least in our heads) to our "big" races for the year & I already have my tentative training schedule mapped out for those. But I am trying really hard to limit myself to 12 races this year…

Dome running starts next week!
If you're a runner & have been trying to figure out how you're going to run outdoors when the Minnesota winter hits, you're in luck! MDRA is opening up the Metrodome for us runners as an alternative to the dreadmill. http://www.runmdra.org/index.php/programs/12-dome-running

5/9/13: Medtronic TC 1 Mile
Ran this last year with my work running club & we're doing it again this year. It's a great first race for anyone new to racing because the distance is short. It's awesome for new runners too - many people walk it so you really don't have to worry about pace unless you want to. Added bonus last year was that 1000 finishers…

10/26/13: Monster Dash 5k/5k-9/10M/Half
Registered for the 5k-9 so I can run with my dog this fall. If you're looking for a first half-marathon to do, this is a GREAT one! It was my first last year & it was so much fun!

8/25/13: Minneapolis Duathlon
Registered for this as part of Monster Series. Who else is doing it? If I get into Grandma's Half Marathon (6/22), I'll take a week off to rest then spend the remaining 8-9 weeks training. Wouldn't mind having some MFPeeps to hook up & cycle with!

8/31/13: Women Rock 10k/Half/Full Marathon
Missed out on the hot firefighters last year, but I'm doing the 10k this year. Doing it more or less as a recovery race for fun since it's a week after the Mpls Du.

9/22/13: IronGirl Duathlon
Did this last year, will probably do it again this year too. It was my first du & it ROCKS. Anyone else?

Why do I find freaky stuff on my legs
I keep finding weird stuff on my legs. Maybe this has been going on for a while & I'm just now noticing, but it may be the result of dramatically increasing my mileage in the past few months. I just reached down to scratch my calf, & there's a bumpy area there. It's not rashy or inflamed...just bumpy. At first I thought it…

Maximize Fat Loss or Maximize Performance: Why do I have to
...choose? I just started monitoring my heart rate when I exercise & learning about the different zones & what the benefits are of training in a particular zone. Not new to exercise, just new to heart rate training. Basically, I've learned that Zones 1-2 are where you maximize fat loss, with up to 85% of the calories…

OMG I ate a piece of bacon this morning
and it was amazing. Thick-sliced, even. Total win.

Calling all experienced weight lifters...nutrition question
This is a question for you serious strength trainers out there. I shoot for about 200g protein a day based on my lean body mass & the level of strength training I do (full-body workout 3x weekly & running 3x weekly for 30-90 min). CW is 242 & my target calorie range is 1900-2000. Lately I've been having trouble getting all…

Got any tips for a newbie runner to improve my pace?
Hi all! So to give a little background, I've been running since last August & gradually worked my way up to a 5k in April & a 10k last weekend (yay me!). My endurance is great - I ran both of those straight through, no walking - but my pace is slow. I finished my 10k averaging 13:00 min/miles. Now that the 10k is over, I'm…

What to wear for my first 10k?
Hi all! I've been working hard to get healthy the past 16 months or so & ran my first 5k in April. It was fantastic! A friend of mine talked me into running a 10k with her that's coming up in a couple of weeks, so I've been training for it & I'm feeling pretty good about being able to run it straight through, no walking.…
