The Greatest Movie of All Time, Sci-Fi/Fantasy Region
(Intro from the initial thread:) OK. Here's the deal. Being a little bored, being a movie nerd and having a little extra time, I've built a few brackets. The idea is to, eventually, crown the Greatest Movie of All Time. (Hence the thread title.) First, these are the movies I happened to choose. Some good ones got left out.…

So, I'm gonna give this gardening thing a shot (pics)
for the friends -- and anyone else, really -- that were curious about what my weekend of garden-building turned out, here are some photos. went from empty to a light tilling, just scraping the surface. then deeper tilling, building up mound rows and topping them with some additional soil. then some compost and a good…

Creamed tuna on toast
so, I wanted to do something with the can of tuna in the fridge. played around and came up with this today. super simple, but could be tweaked lots of ways, and was pretty good if you are a tuna fan. * melt 1 tbs butter in a saucepan -- (I added a touch of milk to help prevent burning) * add a touch more milk and whisk in…

which food just grosses you out?
I'm not talking about the "aaaahhhh! it's so unhealthy for you! how can you eat that?!" stuff. because that stuff is good. I'm talking the food or kind of food that gives you the heebie jeebies. like, for example, one of mine would be soggy bread. I'm down with french dips, oddly. but past that? ugh! if it's been sogged,…

I ate more than my allowance in one meal
and it was awesome. McDonald's large shamrock shake - 1,100 Taco John' s small potato ole's -- 480 Taco John' s new fish taco -- 280 that's a total of 1,860. that's 160 calories more than my daily allowance. but, see, since I burned nearly 2,000 calories at the gym today, even after a large breakfast and post-workout…

Meat and lower cholesterol
Well, since one thread was created to tell us that meat will kill us, I figured I'd post one telling everyone that before it kills you, it may well lower your cholesterol according to a study released in mid-December. http://www.ajcn.org/content/early/2011/12/13/ajcn.111.016261.full.pdf+html

A little introspection goes a long way
So, I threw this up on my fledgeling blog ... but was happy enough with everything that I decided to put it here, too. So, my gym’s got a lot of mirrors. I’d always figured those are mostly for the folks who have advanced to maintenance mode. I mean, I know what I look like. That’s why I’m there after all, right? But … I…

what are you listening to?

do you have 'your' machine?
just curious. I'm very much a creature of habit. so when someone is on 'my' elliptical or 'my' recumbent bike, etc., I find myself thrown off a bit. am I the only one that has a go-to machine?

"earning" calories through exercise
dumb question ... my food page says that I've "earned 577 extra calories from exercise today." do I really want to eat back all of the calories I burn off at the gym? isn't the idea to eat x amount per day and then burn away a portion of those through working out, thus dropping pounds?

fantasy adventure?
so, understand, that your answer here may not be entirely realistic. mine probably isn't. but I've always thought I'd like to go and run with the bulls once in my life. (once I get in shape, of course ... no better target than the fat guy in the back of the pack, right?) what's your fantasy adventure?

'other' calories burned
I've noticed several times that friends will post calories burned doing daily things like, say, grocery shopping, household chores, etc. you are obviously active and burning calories ... but am I in the minority for not logging those calories burned? I just normally plug in those that I burn at the gym. should I start…

so ... caffeine ...
I'm just getting into getting into a better me. And I know one of the big things I've got to get under control is the soda. And I'm working on that ... But my question is, while I work to get that out of my daily intake, can I get my caffeine to prevent headaches from iced tea and coffee? how good/bad are either or both of…

How do you get the ball rolling?
Like most, I've tried losing weight before, plateaued, got frustrated and gave up. I'm 33 now, though, and I know I need to make this happen. I'm not happy being achy all the time, and I know the extra weight is making me feel older than I am. I'm not great at working out on my own, but have done well in the past with a…
