gym hot tub etiquette
so, what's the deal, guys? first-time user of the gym hot tub today after class. in there for five minutes or so by myself. then? naked man joins me. the question I have is this: Am I the weirdo for wearing trunks, is he the weirdo for letting it all hang loose, or are both perfectly normal?

anyone use an adaptive motion trainer?
We've got several at the gym and I'm gonna play around with them over the next few days ... have seen good reviews online, but was wondering about some first-hand knowledge from any folks on here that have used them. Anyone have some tips and/or advice?

Run hard ... you may well eat less
interesting new study -- though, admittedly, a very small sample size. this is from a runner's world piece:

Yes. You CAN eat 'normal' food! (my rant.)
for a while, I was seeing an abundance of "what's gonna happen to my boobs" threads. new batches daily, it seemed. but, lately, I'm seeing new folks coming in and asking if they can eat so-called 'normal' food. and, of course, soon thereafter they are informed by various members that, no, all of that food is terrible and…

Functional training
So, I'm set to tackle a Spartan Sprint in roughly 90 days. I'm fully aware that this will be the hardest thing, physically, I've ever asked my body to take on. So I'm doing my best to get as ready as I can. I've written out a 14-week calendar. It mixes tempo runs, sprints, hills work, etc., and also strength days with some…

Lance Armstrong's little biker shorts are finally on fire
They all did it. Fine. But that is really not the point. Because I don't really care how "sorry" he is. And I don't really care that much that he cheated - he did was 90 percent of the sport did. But he lied. He wrapped himself in the flag while wearing the yellow bracelet, all the while bullying and destroying anyone who…

NFL, Week 3.
If you have a skill player for the Giants? Well, make sure he's playing this week. Geez. Those guys are falling apart! But that means waiver wire RB Andre Brown is a great pickup this week, with Bradshaw out. Not only will he be the guy, he's got a great matchup. Need a guy in that slot? Brown can help. If he's gone, other…

NFL, Week 2
Everyone get their waiver wire pickups in .... game time in 2 days. ogletree is the easy call, but if you need some help, I'd look at some of the Jets WRs. I wouldn't dump anyone big for them, just because we don't know if this was simply a fluke game against a team that's lost 9 of the last 10 games. but could be a viable…

NFL, Week 1
Season kicks off in a few hours with my Cowboys beating the Giants. (Just following the history here. Dallas is 5-0 vs. NYG in season openers ... ) I've got Nicks in our league here, and I'm starting him. officially he is listed as questionable, but various reports out of NY say he definitely will play. Not the same for…

MFP Fantasy Football: Four Thin Inches
time for an MFP contest that has nothing to do with weight and nothing to do with losing -- well, unless you play me, of course. I hope. it's time for fantasy football time. well, to be fair, it's past fantasy football time.but I came up with the idea to create an MFP league a tad late. was hoping to rush and draft…

new FDA regs for school lunches
I guess with schools starting up again, the new food regs take effect today ... what have you fine folks been hearing from kids/parents/teachers? I'm all for making better options available to kids, but some of these rules seem off. kids are, for example, required to take 1/2 cup of veggies/fruits daily. I expect a lot of…

three-bean slow-cooker chili
So I came up with a nice slow-cooker chili over the weekend. Was thrilled with the results and with the calorie count. 1 lb. lean ground beef, browned 1 medium white onion, diced 1 red pepper, diced 2 cloves garlic, diced 22 ounces tomato puree 1 can Rotel Chili Fixin's Diced Tomatoes and Green Chilies 1 can Bush's Best…

Spartan races
anyone follow the Spartan series, or better, run in any of them? I've convinced myself that in 200-some days I can be in shape to run a Spartan Sprint. eek!

apple pie protein shake
1 cup milk (I use skim) 1/2 cup applesauce (I use great value cinnamon, but I guess you could use plain) 1/2 cup plain yogurt (again, great value) 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use body fortress) 6-10 ice cubes dash or two of cinnamon, to taste add a pinch of nutmeg, if you'd like. 386 cals 54 carbs 2 fat 40 protein…

plastic bag ban ... good or bad?
