Best activity tracker for strength training?
I'm trying to get an accurate gauge of my calories burned during the day. I've been using a Fitbit for many years, and it seems spot on with cardio and daily activity, but it's not so great with weight lifting (which I do for 1-1.5 hrs 3x a week). Has anyone found an activity tracker that tracks strength training…

Gaining weight despite diet and exercise? Long
I am hoping someone here has gone through this and can offer some advice, because my body is not doing what it is supposed to anymore and I'm getting frustrated. Background - have worked out since I can remember. I do not miss workouts, even on vacation. 5 days a week, weekends off. Always a combo of cardio and strength.…

Gaining weight - hypothyroidism? What to expect?
I'm waiting on a call back from an endocrinologist (fingers crossed, this is #4, no one is accepting new patients!). I have gained 12 lbs in the past month, despite keeping my calories between 1600-1800, eating clean and working out daily (I did miss Christmas day, but that was it). I increased my exercise 3 weeks ago from…

How much cardio?
I currently do strength training for an hour 3x a week (mostly dropsets and trisets at 75% of 1RM). 2 days a week I do an hour of cardio, mostly intervals (especially kickboxing and tabata drills). I am happy with my current weight, stay at my cut value on calories (1875) daily regardless of what I do exercise-wise, and…

Ravenous on my "off" week???
I do heavy weights 3x a week for 4 weeks then take a week break. On my break week, I only do cardio, but I am STARVING! I can't eat enough this week, I'm just trying to keep it below my TDEE. I have a hard time keeping it above my BMR when I lift! Anyone else like this?

What is with this HCG crap?
Ugh. Several people I know are jumping on the HCG bandwagon. It makes no sense whatsoever to me and is completely unsustainable. Even THEY admit that the only people they know on the diet have gained it all back! I've explained the EM2WL concept but hear the "but I can lose 20 lbs in 2 weeks!" tagline instead. No wonder…

Non-dairy recovery drink?
I had been using a cup of chocolate milk as a recovery drink after my strength workouts, which are about an hour long 3x a week. But lately I haven't felt well after drinking it - a little sick and bloated. I don't have a ton of dairy, so I was thinking it might be the culprit. My question is - if doing heavy lifting for…

Falling off the wagon when stressed.
My diet has been a mess lately. Hubby and my oldest are fighting constantly and I have to referee, and then I just learned today a friend of mine's 2 yr old little girl drowned. I feel like I'm not in control anymore, I'm upset with the world right now, mad at god for taking her little girl and pissed at my family for…

How to get the freaking barbell over my head????
Can anyone recommend some good strength exercises that will enable me to lift the barbell up and over for squats and lunges? I can easily do 40+ lbs on squats, but can't lift anything over 25 lbs over my head! Is there a trick I'm missing? If I go heavier, I've been resorting to dumbbells or a weight vest, but it just…

Tricks for drinking more water?
I actually like the taste of plain water, so it's not that I have an aversion - I just can't remember to drink it! It's always in the kitchen (I have 2 little boys who will spill anything in their path), and I rarely am. Has anyone found a good way to remember to drink water throughout the day?

What to do when TDEE=BMR for just one week?
Just curious as to how to handle this. I wear a Fitbit, and on my usual day, my TDEE is spot on (2187). However, on my "lazy days" (like yesterday....AM soccer game for the kids (I sat the entire time), older son had testing for karate (3.5 hours sitting), rest of the time sitting in the car, no exercise since it was my…

How to up calories when you're not hungry?
First off, I'm new to this group. I can't believe you people exist. I have never starved myself (intentionally!) to lose weight and have always preached to eat MORE! So happy to find others in the same mindset! Now, the problem I consistently have is putting it into practice!!! I am one of those people who only eat when…

Increasing calorie deficit with Fitbit - making up calories?
I had been at a plateau for a while, so I got a Fitbit - and found I was 600 cals/day under what I should be for a 1 lb/week weight loss! So I increased my daily intake from 1500 to 1800 and am finding I am STILL 200-300 cals behind! The problem is I log all my food for the day in the morning (except snacks, but those are…
