Tricks for drinking more water?

I actually like the taste of plain water, so it's not that I have an aversion - I just can't remember to drink it! It's always in the kitchen (I have 2 little boys who will spill anything in their path), and I rarely am. Has anyone found a good way to remember to drink water throughout the day?

You can set an alarm or timer to remind you, post it notes or a note on the back of your hand :P

Do you take medicines? Maybe you could make sure you drink a glass with each dose. I have a medicine that I'm supposed to drink 8oz of water with, so that is 3 glasses down. The rest of it, I just carry a large 32 oz cup around with me all day long (with lid and straw). Sometimes the kids get it and drown the carpet, but more often than not I remember to keep it up higher.

I just try to keep a water bottle next to me as much as possible. It's upped my water into from 2 glasses a day to about 8-12.

have a bottle of 24 oz or more. And refill as often as possible. Possible every hour to every hour and a half. Today I tried and had 27 cups of water.

This!! I am a type 2 diabetic and have to take metformin first thing in the morning and again at supper time along with pain pills for my knee's so I down a 32 oz bottle at these 2 times and get another 2 in (1 at the Y during my workout everyday and 1 after) that gets me to 128 oz. a day without any effort... On some days I do more than this....

I just keep it with me. My kids also knock over everything in their path, so I either use my camelbak water bottle, or my cup from Starbucks. Its an insulated cup with a lid and a straw, I LOVE it, and they kids can't spill it. I take it room to room with me, if its there I will drink it.

May sound totally weird, but it works for me. You have to figure out how you like your water. For me, I like to drink it at room temperature. (a lot of people think it's disgusting, whatever!) I have very sensitive teeth so very cold water triggers instant pain for 30 seconds to 3 minutes long. At work, the first thing I do is fill my 24oz water bottle. Let it sit for an hour or two. I can easily drink the whole thing within 20 minutes. Then, I refill it, repeat.. I'm so weird, I know...

This tip might seem a little tacky/gross, etc., but are your boys young enough to need help in the bathroom? Maybe keep a cup in there and fill it from the sink and take a drink while waiting for them to finish their business. Or have a glass of water when they're having breakfast, lunch, snack, etc.

I have a couple cups with straws that are mine and only mine and I really like them. One has Mickey Mouse on it. I carry it around the house, but I always mix it with watered down DIET cranberry grape or cranberry pomengranate juice,( 2 grams of sugar in it) and a touch of lemon or lime juice. The acidity is supposed to slow the processing of anything and if your digestive system has to work harder, you burn more calories. Tastes so good, you want to drink it!!
