Racing twice in a day - nutrition.
Of course I have some thoughts of my own, but... for those who have raced what would you recommend as nourishment between races? They are both 20 milers without significant hill climbs. The first is 11am the second is 230pm. What are the groups thoughts and recommendations? Probably, it would be good to consider both 1.)…

Fixed gear bikes
I have recently become more aware of fixed gear bikes and am becoming fascinated. I've seen some you tube videos and watched the documentary Fixation. I just travelled to Savannah, Georgia and saw "fixies" all over the place. Are there any fixie riders out there? What do you like about them, do you have any…

Weight loss tip that helped me turn the corner.
I have been struggling to eke off the last few pounds despite being careful with the calories. After some thought I decided that the time of day in which I was ingesting calories might be a problem. Each evening if I was within caloric limits I would have a "bedtime" snack. So I set a new rule: No calories after dinner…

MFP in newspaper today
MFP got to highest ratings for diet/plan/app. It was over Weight watchers and many others. I read it in the Syracuse Newspaper today.

Blue tooth for the cellphone when riding?
Has anybody used a wireless headset when riding? Has it been reliable? Is windnoise a big factor? Can I get away with the $20 cheapo or do I need to get the $140 top of the line? It seems like the expensive ones get just as many poor reviews... so I thought I would check with cyclists on this issue. Thanks.

Just got rollers!!
Got a set of rollers over the weekend and I love them. They are insane, fun, a little risky, but what the hell!!! I find them to be a great workout. I was worrried that there would not be enough resistance to get a burn, but not the case. I am usually dripping sweat in the first 10 - 15 minutes. The learning curve was…

First time bike race
Today I signed up for a 30 mile bike race. It has been referred to as a "citiizen's" race, though I am not sure what that means. This is the first time I have entered a bike race and I would guess that I might be around the middle of the pack for the finish. I base this loosely on last year's results. I would appreciate…

Frame type - thoughts?
I am looking for some opinions. I am a mountain bike rider who has moved my cycling to the road. Currenly riding my GT MTB still, using 1.5 " slicks now that I'm road riding. I have about 740 miles in the last 3 months and am now getting in pretty good condition. On the road with rolling hills I am averaging 15 - 18 plus…

"Vintage" bikes?
Yesterday I picked up my 1977 Fuji S-10-S from the local bike shop. I had it tuned, new wrap on the handlebars, and new hoods for the brakes. I rode it home which was 23 miles. There was definitely a learning curve to riding it as I have not been on it in years. Toward the second half of the ride I found my self very…

Easter Holiday WOOHOO
We just got back from a 3 day Easter "vacation" trip to be with family and I intelligently indulged during the trip. Despite eating some very enjoyable meals I actually LOST a few pounds during the trip. I owe thanks to my wife, my sons, and my father and mother-in-law for supporting me with my workouts and dietary…

What do you do when you've been boozing it up for the weeken
I am curious as to what people do after a weekend of partying? It is clear that the caloric intake from any booze, be it beer, wine, or liquor is insane. For the tea totallers, I agree that it is best to abstain. But my question is for the others, what do you do, if anything, after a weekend of completely blowing your…

Weak during some workouts...
I just wanted to share this. Earlier in the week I felt that I was weak during 2 consecutive days while working out. Even abdominal work was weaker and sluggish. Mind you, I am below my recommended calories but do not feel hungry. I increased my calories (still remaining below) and chose primarily protein foods (tuna, egg…
