Yesterday was great!
I just didn't care yesterday. I was missing food and the pure enjoyment of it all. Went to my favorite Mexican restaurant with friends for lunch and had my favorite dish (Fajita Nachos). Then last evening we met my parents for supper at a local establishment where they have excellent prime rib. I enjoyed the prime rib with…

Recent weight loss plateau
Not sure if I should be concerned with this or not. I've seem to hit a plateau that's lasted 2 1/2 weeks so far. Now, school started last week and we have a 4 week old infant at home (not to mention the toddler). So my time has become severely limited for exercise with a drastic increase in stress and reduction in sleep.…

Reliable Bathroom scale help?
I am looking for advice on a bathroom scale. All big box stuff are trash. I don't care about fancy features. We just want to avoid the s#!^ and get a good unit that won't break and will provide consistent and reliable measurements.

Bathroom scale???
Question for you guys. We seem to be struggling to find a quality bathroom scale. They all seem to be junk. Anybody have a decent scale suggestion that won't break the bank?

That time of year again.
Well, first of October is here. We will be pulling the dock, boat lift and boats out of the water for the year. Pontoon will be pickled and stuffed in the back of the garage. Always a bummer..................Until I realize that means hunting season is upon us. Then the lakes get hard and Ice Fishing season is here. Man I…

I zeroed out on the Tag Lottery this year
No wolf tag or doe tags for me this year. We did get 3 doe tags for our whole group however. I guess I will be looking for small bucks to fill my freezer. Or perhaps I will hold out for the big daddy. Or I may go fishing. Oh decisions decisions.

92 year old shoots burgler. MY HERO
This man is a hero before he shot that POS burgler. Now he really is a hero. "A War War II veteran and 92-year-old Kentucky farmer, Jones shot and killed a man who broke into his home early Monday, saying he had no problem aiming "right for the heart" of the would-be thief." Full story:…

Are there really empty calories?
If a person works out so they have "extra" calories to cover their beer consumption does it all equal out the same as if they were eating those extra calories? You always hear about beer being "empty" calories. Is there such a thing as "empty" calories?

Are push-ups one of the bet upper body exercises?
While I still haven't jumped into Insanity I have been strength training with positive results. After doing a fair bit of research I have come to the conclusion that push-ups are a great exercise that works many different muscle groups. I am just finding dumbbell free weights to be to muscle specific and requires a lot of…

Ha ha ha, all you proponents of "eat all your calories"
just like the title says. I am on to you. Once you have someone like me convinced I know you are laughing. I am anxious to see how well eating all your calories works. It sure seems to me like I am eating tons of food just so I can say I did it. Eating when you are not hungry or flat out stuffed seems counter productive…

Muscles running our of gas.
Can someone explain to me how this works. You are working out and you simply cannot do any more reps. There is just nothing left in the muscles. However you rest for about 5 minutes and you can bust out another set of reps. What happens there? What do you run out of and gets replenished so rapidly?

MFP Calorie estimation vs. Treadmill vs. Polar FT4 HRM
So my HRM finally arrived in the mail yesterday. After some research and set up I got a chance to use it and I am pleasantly surprised. I know this will be a great tool to allow me a better understanding of what my body is doing and how it is changing over the course of my fitness lifestyle change. After taking the time to…

Killer chest workout

Do we humans really need to eat anymore?
The vegetarians got me thinking. If they can get by without eating animal products. Do we humans really need to eat at all? Wouldn't it be more efficient and accurate to consume all our required nutrients in supplement form? Sure it would not be as fun. However it sure would resolve the calorie counting and analytical…

Got some water time in and the first sun burn of the year
Looking at the river conditions this morning I knew there would be a number of spots I wanted to hit in search for some good fish and some good numbers. It seems that the fish are currently spread out all over the place. A person can grind out a limit or two but from what I'm seeing they are going to be picking up a fish…

Fish Recipes????
I've got some Crappie I want to eat up for supper. I can bread it and fry it like any other white meat fish. However I'm curious what other options I may have. I have baked walleye and crappie with just some Mrs Dash on it. Wasn't to bad. I'm looking for something else. Perhaps some marinating and grilling options.

2006 British Columbia Moose Hunt (why I work out)
This is a prime example of why I work out. I am trying to loose the weight I've gained since my 2008 hunting season. This hunt was my graduation present from my parents. My dad and I have been trying to get this hunt put together since 1999. We'll finally in August 2006 we were on our way to hunt moose with Prophet Muskwa…

How's this for a roast? (non-meat eaters be warned, pics of
I posted some pics of my moose hunt. The red meat lovers should really appreciate what you get off a moose. This is just one hind quarter. My hand is on the Bottom Round. That thing is huge.

Still struggling with this concept?!!??!?!
Ok, so I think I've got it figured out. So. A person has a BMR. If that person wants to loose weight, they consume a certain % of the total BMR calories to create a daily calorie deficit. This weight loss can be achieved sitting on the couch with no effort/exertion what so ever. Let's assume that calculated daily caloric…

At the end of the day, how close are you to your food diary
Like the title says? Are you pretty good at getting close? Anybody right on? Is there a (+-%) that we should be trying to be within?

"Wasting" your exercised/gained calories for the day
I'm just curious how many of you don't like how MyFitnessPal adds your exercise "burnt" calories to your daily total that you can consume. For some reason I see eating those calories as a waste of exercise time. I prefer to stay under my pre-exercise daily allowance of calories while I'm trying to burn fat.

Nutritional percentages question
I have a question. A lot of the research I'm reading states that your protein intake should be greater than this website and others recommend. Does anyone know if consuming more protein than recommended by this site will have negative health effects or interfere with my weight loss/body reshaping? For example this site…

Anybody doing P90X or Insanity
Like the title says. Anybody doing these? Good, bad, insights, etc? While I do have dumbbells at home (where I currently work out) I like the looks of Insanity as they don't use weights and just use gravity and body weight. I understand strength training and have a background in it. However I've always struggled with…

Conflicting nutritional goals
I was wondering if you all could offer some advice. I've been reading a lot of literature that indicates a person should get their calories form three basic areas. Carbs (30%), Protein (30%) and Fat (40%) [preferably 20% + coming from saturated fat]. However I see on the daily diet log that the recommended protein is…
