What readings do you get for tai chi and yoga?
I noticed yoga (which seems like more hard work) burns fewer calories than tai chi. For me, 60 minutes of yoga burns 155 and tai chi burns 247. Pilates also burns 155. What do you get?

How to tone your muscles to make them long and lean
1) Take a scalpel 2) Cut the head of the muscle off the bone 3) Pull it further up the bone 4) Use Superglue to glue the head back to the bone 5) Hold for an hour Anaesthetic is optional. I suggest Finnish Vodka. PS IANAD.

Abs 'indicate that you are a moron'
TONED abdominal muscles let morons recognise each other, it has emerged. Researchers had previously assumed that stomach muscles served no purpose whatsoever. Abs-ologist Dr Tom Booker said: “We could never figure out why humans even had all these muscles in their stomachs. “Legs muscles help you walk, arm muscles let you…

Best way of reducing BF without reducing muscle mass
Just interested to know what others do out there. Currently I lift twice a week plus do calisthenics (think Barstarzz) once a week. I am eating average 2500 cals a day with protein 100-130g a day. I do very little proper CV work at the mo (30 minutes on a Saturday). I want to see if I can reduce my BF below 10%. I…

Trim Trails in the area
Thought I'd start a thread of "trim trails" that people know of where you can do outdoor training. Doesn't have to be Kingston but within reasonable driving distance, I guess.

Sugar "targets"
Any thoughts on how much I should put my limit in for my food diary? Goal in this case is to avoid becoming a diabetic. I only recently added a sugar column and it stuck "33" as a limit but it means nothing to me.

Gym-free Strength Training
I have been considering what someone could do if they were a beginner and couldn't afford much in the way of kit (budget: $10!!). Here's what I came up with: Gym-free Strength Training Equipment: bands or light weights eg 5kg dumbbells, watch/clock or stop watch Timeframe: 3 months Diet: maintenance, preferably +10%…

Tai Chi named as perfect exercise for the elderly
Researchers found that older people who regularly performed the traditional Chinese “mind and body” technique were less likely to suffer high blood pressure and were physically stronger. They concluded that the improvement of heart function combined with increased muscular power meant that the martial art should be…

High calorie/calorie-dense food suggestions, please?
Hi I know nuts and peanut butter are good choices but what if someone can't take nuts or peanuts? At the moment, they're eating energy tablets/sweets (150 calories per tablet :noway: ) but any other options for calorie-dense food? Thanks.

4th April to 4th September
A quick post to update what I've been doing. Slowly but surely wins the race. I haven't done that much, nothing clever (my food diary is open). I sometimes eat salads, I sometimes eat pie and mash, I enjoy the occasional pint of cider. But I've always aimed for a mild calorie deficit (100 calories a day!), tried to lift as…

Planks - how good are they really?
People post all the time on here how great they are for developing abs but is there anyone out there who only works the abs with planks (and no deadlifts, bench, squats, rows, bent over rows, leg raises, crunches, running, cycling etc which all work the abs to varying degrees!) and has amazing abs? I don't do any planks at…

Burn abdominal fat doing just 10 minutes of crunches a day!
If each crunch burns 0.1 calorie and you have 20 lbs to lose, doing 35,000 crunches a week will burn 1lb of fat a week... that's 5,000 crunches a day... just crunch fast enough to do it in 10 minutes and you're sorted.

Pedometer reading...
Measured over 10,000 steps today including work and at home according to my cheap pedometer. Assuming I really walked that much and weigh 150lbs, how many calories will I have burnt? :D

Silly question re calorie-counting
I wonder if it is possible to maintain a reasonable daily intake for weight loss without actually logging food. Anyone tried it? I've been able to estimate the amount of calories I eat for some time now so wonder if it's possible to "walk without assistance"? From some calculations on the back of a postage stamp, if I'm…

Not eating enough?
I've never ever kept a food diary before. I just assumed I was eating too much and went on a low carb diet. Then I decided to reduce my calorie intake a little once I had plateaued (after about 2 weeks!). Having recording two days' worth of food on MFP, it appears I'm eating way under what I should be. (Look at my diary on…

Calories burnt practising
Hi Looks like I'm the first to post. So what do you record for calories spent? I consider it to be equivalent to a leisurely walk so 60 minutes = 100 calories. Guess it depends on whether you spend the entire session trying to fight off a massive pushing hands opponent who insists on using your arms to rest theirs or stand…

Motivational tool
Hi A while ago, I made this video for a couple of friends with self-esteem issues: http://youtu.be/2EQiO6FF5ks Wondering if anyone wants me to make one for weight loss/dieting? If so, what issues should I address? I can figure out the wording later. PS If someone else wants to go ahead and make it, feel free!

Exercise diary on MFP
Just wondering but isn't MFP a bit over-exaggerating the calories burnt? If not, then I have another 1000 calories to consume (already eaten dinner) and there are only 3 hours left of the day! Shall I hit KFC and ask for the bucket?
