An ode to my body
My dearest lifelong companion, I must first apologize to you for being unfaithful and disrespectful to you. You do nothing but support me unconditionally. You take care of my blood, bones, muscles, heart, organs, hormones, brain functions, breathing, seeing, feeling, thinking, and all the functions I need to be ALIVE. Yet…

Free or Cheat day? Chew on this
From www.shapefit.com I'm sure most of you have heard of this concept before, free food days. It's a dieting or lifestyle concept that some people find very helpful in maintaining or losing weight. You eat a strict diet and macronutrient ratio that is planned all week long and insert a free food day once every 7-10 days.…

Fat Burning Zone myth
From Shapefit.com http://www.shapefit.com/exercise/feel-the-burn-cardio.html Over the years I have witnessed many old fitness myths become 'debunked'. Well, now I think it's time to debunk one of my own. One idea in particular that has often been mischaracterized is the concept of 'burning fat' while exercising. We have…

Skinny- fat and muscular- fat bodies
I have heard about people that are "skinny" but still have a high body fat % or people that are muscular but also have a high body fat %. How do you avoid these situations? I think that I'm falling into the becoming-muscular- fat category, because I feel muscles getting bigger and strength increasing(like in my arms and…

Building a Circuit training plan
Are there any suggestions out there for a plan? My friend and I are thinking of doing a plan that is about 10 moves (core, strength, abs, etc) and about 10 minutes of cardio for 3 rounds each. I'd love to hear any ideas or suggestions out there in MFP land!

Fat burning zone and cardio zone
I went to the gym today to test my body fat % and weigh myself. The trainer asked me a few questions about my routine and asked about my target heart rates since he saw I had my HRM on. I told him I normally train at a high HR to burn more calories, but he said that I wasn't working out in the Fat Burning % and therefore…

Fat vs. muscle and the SCALE
I know this has probably been discussed before on MFP, but I'm really confused. I use the Wii Fit to track my weight loss progress and I weighed myself in January and it said I was 153 lbs. Then I weighed myself again this weekend first thing in the morning and it said I have not had any changes in weight after 3 months of…

Emotional eating
So I came to the realization that I am definitely an emotional eater. Over the weekend my mother was in the hospital for an unknown pain in her liver and I was terrified. What did I do to relieve the stress? I ate the fattiest popcorn I could make and I baked a bunch of cookies and ate half of them. On top of the stress…

flexing abs during exercise
Is it recommended to flex your ab muscles during a work out like cruches, strength training, or core work? I don't keep my stomach flexed, but I let it just kind of hang out. I've heard various instructors say to keep your stomach in, does this mean keep it flexed?

Resting heart rate and exercise calories
I've read online a few places that you should subtract your RHR (Resting heart rate) from your exercise calories. Has anyone else heard of this? I use an HRM to track my exercise calories and would like to know if this is true or not.

Will Power and the Slacker Brain
This is an article from NPR that I found interesting and wanted to post for the MFP community. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=122781981 (If you add exercise to this story, think of the stress reduction & benefits that this adds to our overloaded brains!)

Stubborn Mental Block
So when I first joined MFP I was full steam ahead. I was working out 5-6 days doing a combination of P90X and HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and logging all my food (even on weekends!) and being real conscious of what I ate (even at restaurants). But as of lately I have no desire to work out or eat healthy, yet I…

my mommy
I want my mom to join me in this fitness journey! I showed her this website and how it works and the success stories and she was amazed. She is turning 50 this year and she has advanced diabetes and also is starting to have nerve damage on her hand and arms because she doesn't take care of herself. I tried getting her to…

HIIT-HRM's-Heart rates
Can someone help me with calculating the proper heart rate zones and intervals for doing HIIT? I just got an HRM (Timex Ironman Personal Trainer) and need help setting the zones and interval.

 I just wanted to say thank you to all the people on here that post things about their experiences with weight loss and healthy living...a lot of times these posts come from the heart. I really enjoy reading the posts and the pictures keep me motivated. I realize that I am not alone and that we are a group of people…

Vacation Mentality
I recently went on a trip out of town for 3 days. I packed healthy snacks instead of the usual chips, doritos, candy, cookies, etc. My friend ended up bringing the cookies and snacks, of which I ate some but not much with my fitness progress in mind. However, I made bad food choices while eating out that I normally do not…
