flexing abs during exercise

Is it recommended to flex your ab muscles during a work out like cruches, strength training, or core work? I don't keep my stomach flexed, but I let it just kind of hang out. I've heard various instructors say to keep your stomach in, does this mean keep it flexed?

Yes, tuck it in, flex it whatever you wanna call it. A good exercise for down time or will driving is to flex and count to 15 seconds and do it till you get where your going.0

I do it regularly when I think about it, not just while exercising and it has made a difference in the past. I think you should take a deep breath and pull the muscles in whenever you remember to do so. Its a great way to tone those muscles, even when you are at rest!0
