Fitbit and similar info required
Hello Hope the good folks (or bad ones I am not fussy) of mfp can help me out here. A friend wants to get his partner something like a fitbit type device for her birthday (she has been hinting). There are a wide variety of things out there and it is hard to know what is best for her needs, What does the top of the range do…

Good Mornings help
Struggling a bit with these. I am finding I can get the bend to 90 degrees easily if I either, have a slight bend in my knees or do them pretty much unweighted. To have enough weight on to feel my hamstrings etc working to do them I am then struggling to keep my legs straight and/or get to parallel with the floor.…

Odd squat question
What is considered to be parallel? I ask because my the fact that my thighs are 3 dimensional means that if the bottom is parallel the top is well above, if the top is parallel I am virtually a2g anyway (and my thighs are not massive) I squat a2g really so it's a moot point but I would like to know

gym membership, where to go and how to choose
Reposted from my blog because I would appreciate opinions and thoughts I am a member at Pure Gym (uk). I have been going relatively regularly for the last few months. I am beginning to wonder if I want to change gyms. In favour of Pure: - There are loads of them - one close to home, one close to OH and two fairly close to…

Strong Curves
I am thinking of getting the book and would appreciate anyone's thoughts opinions or experiences as to whether this would be a good programme for me. My goals are to build muscle, lose some body fat, improve my fitness and stamina. Currently I have been doing strong lift 5x5, not for very long and I have seen some…

New Trainers
I have a couple of pairs of rather naff trainers which I currently use for the gym. I am working through Brett Conteras Strong Curves at the moment which involves squats and deadlifts (amongst a load of other stuff). I have no problem with the naff cheap trainers as far as what I am doing physically goes, and did not while…

A whole variety of athletes
Not really much to discuss but I was amazed by the variety of shapes sizes of both men and women. And so many _tall_ ladies http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2502477/Can-guess-sport-shape-Olympians-body.html

Protein for lunch or breakfast
Without resorting to shakes and/or spending fortunes on food. I have always been a carb girl, love my pasta and rice and I will by no means give it up but I have messed a little with my macors to increase my protein from the auto mfp one and it has become very obvious that I don't eat a lot of it. My teas are generally not…

Barbell Rows to Pendlay or not to Pendlay
I am following stronglifts 5x5 at the moment and really finding the pendlay rows a bit of a problem. I haver repositioned the bar so it is higher and I now can get the correct movement and form and have increased the weight I use as a result. However I am not following it to get stronger. I want to be fitter, healthier,…

Average calories in a day
I was reading another post where somebody said they pretty much burn 1500 in exercise calories a day. I can't see how that is even possible unless you were running a marathon or something every day. So I was curious what people burn. I reckon I probably burn about maybe 300 a day on average over a week.

Cycling, a mini victory today
So my gym membership finished and I plan starting up again in September but in the meantime I came back from holiday with a tapas and beer baby! Along with not a lot of cash and an empty petrol tank. So I need my car for the longer journeys but my 5 miles to work and home I reckon I can cycle. So I dug out my bike, pumped…

How can this be?
So, I went on holiday for 3 weeks. In the course of that time I ate lots, I drank a fair bit and duly put on weight. Fair enough. 3 weeks total gain was about 8pounds. Well I can live with that, I enjoyed every mouthful lol. What I really don't get is how I can come back, eat normally, log, exercise and lose about 1/2 a…

Where do you hurt?
I mean a good hurt not a broken hurt! I am finding after these lifts my quads are feeling it which I expected, my pec area again I expected. Unexpected is the inner thigh soreness. This is good - I have used those adductor and abductor machines at the gym and can (on my first day in the gym after 18 months) shift 60kg on…

Comedy Fail Today
Workout A day - for the 3rd time Squats at bar + 15kg! Just, although I could rest a little longer and may have to to go up again Monday. We have 1 squat rack and 1 proper benchpress and rack - plenty of inclines in various directions but none can be laid flat for bench. 2 guys were using that between them - not…

Back to the Gym Advice Please
So I have a 1 month offer for membership at a local gym. I want to make the best possible use of my time there. I am pretty confident using any of the machines for either weights or cardio. I generally do about 20 mins cardio on a cross trainer followed by 20 minutes or so on weight machines. Either legs or arms. Other…

overnight oats and almond milk
I decided I would try the overnight oats thing and have been quite enjoying them. Most recipes I have found seem to use almond milk rather than cow's. Everywhere the question has been asked the answer appears to be that you can use any milk. I thought I would try the almond. I was a little disappointed by the lack of any…

How reliable are body fat machines/My TDEE/BMR ....
A friend of mine has a body fat calculator (it's branded lloyds pharmacy). It calced me as being 27.5% body fat which I would agree with as I would have estimated myself as being in the 25%-30% bracket. Can't remember all the details for muscle tone and the like but she was pretty impressed lol! Came up with a bmr of 1865…

Stretching after.
I have done 2 days on the 30 day shred. Reasonably fit active and supple to start with so not having too much difficulty. However, I have pretty well developed stretchy quads. I do not think this is a warm up issue as I don't feel stiff or like I am pulling anything while working out but the day after I find my quads are…

Curious about exercise
So I am newish to the boards, I have been tracking on and off for a while (the weight is approximate) I aim for around 1200 calories a day and I do not eat back calories from exercise. Some days it's more some less... Exercise wise, I get out for around 45 minutes most days with my dogs - brisk hiking (uneven ground hills…
