overnight oats and almond milk

I decided I would try the overnight oats thing and have been quite enjoying them. Most recipes I have found seem to use almond milk rather than cow's. Everywhere the question has been asked the answer appears to be that you can use any milk. I thought I would try the almond. I was a little disappointed by the lack of any sort of almondiness to the flavour but I quite like it. Not really noticed any difference to cows milk to be honest but is there any sort of health/weight benefit to using almond milk or is it just different?

Almond milk is much lower in calories than whole milk and has more calcium, but it does have less protein - so pick your trade off I suppose. I use unsweetened almond milk in my overnight oats and it only has 30 calories per cup so it keeps the overall calories low on my oatmeal. For example, this morning I has 1.5 servings oatmeal (1 serving = 1/4 cup), .75 cup almond milk, .5 tbls chia seeds, whole small banana, and half an apple and the total was 320 calories.

Thanks. I use so little milk normally I have never bothered to look at what the calorific difference would be. I quite like the almond stuff though so I reckon I will stick with it.

Another thing I like about almond milk is that it lasts in the fridge a lot longer than cow's milk
