Hands in pockets?
If it's cold out and I walk with my hands in my pockets, will it still count my steps? Thanks!

What to do with lentils (besides soup)?
Hello! I love lentils, and make lentil soup/stew quite regularly. I'm wondering what else I should do with them. Preferably easy - I'm not really into making lentil loaf or lentil burgers. Maybe some advice on which spices to flavor them with? Thanks!

Easy Tofu Recipes
Hello everyone! For ages I thought I hated tofu, and then someone served me some with a delicious sauce and I loved it! I have made that one since but it involves a LOT of ingredients and I would really like to have some quick and easy ways of flavouring tofu. Please share your ideas!

Starting up again - need active friends!
I took a long break and slacked off and I need to get back to it again. I find I'm much more likely to stick with MFP when I have active friends who interact/comment etc. I would prefer people who have open diaries and aim for somewhere between 1300-1800 calories per day. I'm a mid 30's female living in Vancouver, BC…

Hiking
Hello everyone, What are your favorite hikes in and around the Lower Mainland? I love Eagle Bluffs on Cypress, and I really like Minnekhada too. I'm trying to improve my fitness so I can do harder longer hikes. I want to do Joffre Lakes this summer - has anyone done it?

Runners with back problems?
Hello everyone, A little over a year ago I started running for the first time in my life, and grew to love it. I had worked up to about 7 or 8 kilometers when I put my back out about 4 months ago. I have had ongoing back issues for years and finally got an X-ray done. I have mild scoliosis, disc degeneration and bone…

Running in the rain.
Hello all, I live in Vancouver, BC. It rains A LOT here. I have a waterproof light jacket and I bought waterproof trail running shoes (which I also wear on the road because they were the only waterproof running shoes I could find). Can you guys give me any other tips? What type of pants? Right now I just wear a ball cap…

What healthy meals freeze well?
I recently hopped on the bandwagon of preparing healthy food in advance to help me avoid making poor decisions. I made up a batch of chili this weekend and divided it into portions and froze them. Besides chili, soup, and stews, what other meals freeze/reheat well?

I would never...
I was just thinking about how over the course of my life there are so many things I said I would never do, and then did. Fitness related, I used to say things like "I would never count calories" or "I would never be one of those people who run in the rain." Well, I do both of those things now! Non fitness related: When I…

Protein Powder - should I be using it?
I think I get a good amount of protein in my diet - I eat meat, cheese, yogurt. Do I need protein powder? What are the benefits? Does it have many calories? I've never used it but feel like I should be from things I've read. Thoughts?

New to the group - introducing myself
Hello everyone! My name is Adrienne (Addie is my nickname). I live in Vancouver, BC Canada. I'm 32. My highest weight was about 2.5 years ago when I hit 190 (I'm 5'7.5"). I had been relatively thin with no effort, and then gained 50 pounds in 3 years when I switched to a desk job and my metabolism slowed down due to a…

I'm interested in trying out Martial Arts - any info?
Does anyone have any information to share? When I was a kid my brother did Seikeido(sp?) and I used to love going to watch the tournaments. My Dad is a bit old school so never offered to let me take the classes as it was a "boy thing". I think it is something I would like. I've been looking at some karate classes, someone…

Question from beginner runner
I have been "learning" to run and have made pretty good progress. I started only being able to run for about 45 seconds (I'm asthmatic) and am up to about 5 minute intervals and my walking intervals are getting shorter. I don't use a learn to run program. I don't even have a watch and I don't track my time or distance in…

What is your biggest roadblock?
What is the main thing holding you back from achieving your goals? I'd say my top derailer is work lunches. I tend to not get my act together enough to pack lunches on a regular basis, so I often buy from the cafeteria, and the meals are very high calorie. It's completely my fault for being lazy and I know it's holding me…
