Why do I have to run Races to be a runner?
Anyone else de-motivated when thinking about races? I'd rather just train and set off and run 13 miles without having to get up at the crack of dawn, wait in lines at port-a-potties, pay lots of money, worry about what group I'm in, and if we can make time in our schedule that particular weekend, not to mention being…

Alcohol or Diet Soda in the Evening?
Calories aside (since I account for them in my diet), would it be better to have a glass or two of wine (4oz each) or a diet soda in the evening? I feel the need to have something to sip and iced tea, green tea, whatever, just doesn't do it for me. I've tried plain club soda with lime or whatever and... meh. I do enjoy…

6 months and no weight loss!
I'm so miserable lately. Dieting is alI I think about. It consumes my day. I even listen to weight loss podcasts in the car on the ride to work. I've been actively dieting for 530 days now. I'm still not losing any weight. Am I just broken??? I cut out all bread, cereal, pasta, and starchy vegetables in january and upped…

HIIT people- how high does your HR go?
I'm 32 and mine is often 188ish when I finally give up and have to walk. Once I saw it at 196. It displays on the treadmill from my PolarFT7. Just curious. I'm in relatively good shape and generally run in the 170s if not 180s but I've recently upped the intensity. Even in college I always thought my HR was naturally high…

Do you work harder when other people are watching?
Confession: I have a treadmill at home but I never do my high intensity workouts there because there's something about the vibe of the gym and with other people there somehow holding me accountable. You?

Fasting workout- how many carbs after is too much?
I'm going to try and do a morning workout before food. Nothing crazy- was thinking a brisk walk for 30 minutes. I've heard that it is beneficial not to have carbs directly before or after a workout so as to keep insulin levels down (diabetes runs in my family). I normally have a protein shake in the morning. It has 10g…

Does being "sore" make my weight higher?
I'm just curious what you all have noticed. I've noticed when I'm sore, my weight is higher. Is this from building muscle or from water retention? It's only a one pound difference but I was hoping for a loss this week and when I jumped on the scale, I was up a pound.

How much protein before/after workouts?
I'm trying to up my metabolism after learning that I've been eating too little (i.e. at or below bmr). I've gone from 1500 to 1750 calories per day and eating my exercise calories. I weight train 1-2 times per week and cardio most days but may do more and fewer cardio. As I'm trying to regain some muscle, I was wondering…

What are your ratios?
I am a woman trying to lose fat and build muscle. A website suggested 40% carb, 40% protein, and 20% fat. Does this sound about right? Curious as to what everyone else does.

This can't be a plateau! What do I do?
I haven't lost a pound in months. I know that I've been a bit sleep deprived with 2 kids under 2 but I should have lost something. Here are my stats- 5'3" and 180 set to lose a pound a week at 1500. I lost my 1st 20 pounds of baby weight in 3 months (the summer). I looked at my nutrition since 90 days ago and it evens out…

Will this put me into starvation mode?
I have a BMI of 31 and am looking to lose at least 40 pounds, 50 ideally. I have it set to 2 lbs per week and having been eating 1200-1300 a day but with exercise I'm about 600 net. My question is, because I am more overweight, can I do this? Or will this put me into starvation mode? I only started this week and found with…

Introductions: Hi everyone :-)
Nice to see people from WTE struggling with baby weight and other mommy issues :-) I am 13 weeks pregnant with #2 (#1 is 9 months), due May 2012. Trying to maintain my weight as much as possible to avoid GD this time round. At least I was able to lose the baby weight from #1 (although I'm still up 25 pounds from where I'd…

Can you gain weight during pregnancy even if you eat mainten
So because I'm at risk for GD, I was told not to eat more than my maintenance calories. I'm week 14, weighed myself this morning and have gained a pound. Now this isn't an emergency because I'm exactly where I started, but my question is, can the baby still make you gain weight even if you're eating your maintenance…

11/14 Week Goals !
Ok ok. So it's already Wednesday. I have not worked out at all since the weekend and I ate 300 calories over yesterday. For the rest of the week, I'm going to try to weight train 2x's and workout 2x's. I also want to stay within my calorie goal. Here goes! And you? I always find other's goals so motivating, except most of…
