How am I supposed to balance friends?
I've been helping out a friend plan her wedding a few nights week. It seems like whenever I'm with her we always end up eating heavier food that I'm not used to typically eating. I'd be more comfortable doing that if it wasn't happening so often (at least a few times a week). I hate eating light all day just so I can…

Annoying Aunt trying to play matchmaker. How to deal?
I'm a single 24 year old female who is completely happy with myself. Apparently, since I don't have a significant other my aunt finds it her civic duty to tell me "I need to go out more", or "You're not going to meet anyone if you stay at home!". Then while sitting in church, she proceeds to point and whisper about the…

Should I go by gram weight?
My bag of fish says "1 fillet (112 grams)" is 100 calories. When I weighed it out I got TWO fillets in 112 grams. Should I just assume that 112 grams is 100 calories and ignore the "1 fillet" part? I'd hate to accidentally down 200 cals.

Drinks for the nondrinker?
I wasn't sure if this qualified as "food and nutrition" so sorry if it doesn't! I'm going on vacay in April and want to drink a little. I've never really drank before so I'm not sure what to get. I'm not trying to get super drunk or anything just want to enjoy some adult beverages while at the beach and whatnot :drinker: I…

What's your favorite meal from Cheesecake Factory??!!
I'm going there for the first time this weekend. I only browsed the menu online so needless to say I have no idea what I want! Bang Bang Chicken and Shrimp, Shepherd's Pie, or the Stuffed Corn Tortillas? Everything sounds so good! And not to mention the cheesecakes. I'm not concerned about calories for this meal. I feel…

Ugh what to do in this situation?
This weekend my my friend wants be to go with her and a few of her coworkers bowling. For them this will typically include bowling alley pizza, bar food, and beers. I truly have lost my taste for those kind of foods since I've started to be more particular about what I like to eat. I'm sorta worried about how her friends…

How much do you trim your meat?
I love boneless skinless chicken thighs but I'm worried that I'm not trimming off enough fat. It says there are 160 calories for 112g but does that assume that I've trimmed all the fat off?

Label or USDA database?
Sometimes the nutrition label on my product is different from what's on the USDA calorie database. For Example, I have catfish that the bad says has 100 calories for 112 grams but the US site says that it's around 150ish. I've always heard to go with the package but now I'm confused. What do you do?

Help with ground pork please!!
I bought this ground pork and divided it into four equal 4oz portions. The label says that the RAW weight will have 120 calories. I get that, what I don't get is why the 3oz cooked weight has 170 calories. I understand that cooked food will have less moisture therefore have more calories per gram, but in this case I'm…

Question about canned vs. cooking your own beans.
When I look up the nutritional information for 112g of boiled black beans it says that there are roughly 150 calories. But then I look up 112g of canned black beans and it says there are around 100! Basically they are the same, correct? Why the difference in calories? Are they including the icky liquid in the canned beans…

Another Bacon Question
My bacon pack says that 3 (15g) cooked slices are 70 cals. If I only cook 2 slices down to 15 g would that still be 70 cals?

How is this salmon this low in calories?
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Salmon-Fillets-Salmon-16-oz/10324515 How can those be only 100 cals for 4oz? I'm lacking on my salmon knowledge but I know 100 calories doesn't sound right.

Confused on weighing recipes
Perhaps I'm over thinking this but how do you go about weighing recipes that you've already cooked?Like soups or items where moisture evaporates out once cooked... Do you weigh each ingredient raw or before you add it to the recipe and then take the total of all the ingredients and divide by how many servings? OR... AFTER…

Differences in calorie labels for dried beans?
I have 2 bags of dried black beans. My Goya bag says that 38g dry has 70 calories. Then I look at my Great Value brand bag and that says that 35g dry has 100 calories.. Granted it's only a small difference, but I tend to eat a lot of beans. What would you do? Or which amount would you go by?

For those who don't cook often, live alone, or don't like it
I'm not a fan of cooking. I find the all weighing and measuring all my ingredients to be a major hassle and by the time I've finished preparing a meal and see the mess of a kitchen I'm left with the last thing I feel like doing is sitting down to eat it! And I live alone so that's not helping either. Granted I will cook up…

Nutritional Labeling Laws at Restaurants?
I admit that I find politics rather confusing, so I possibly could have this wrong, but I remember a few years ago hearing about a law passing that would require restaurants with 20 or more locations to have their nutritional information available... If this is the case does anyone know when it will it'll happen? Places…

Quick avocado question!!
I've been eating 1/4 cup of MASHED hass avocado at a friends house and counting it has 100 calories... does that sound accurate? I've seen online that it was around that much but then someone told me it was closer to 200 cals. I'm staying at a friends so I'm unable to weigh it.
