Lifting at Home - Equipment
So, I hate the gym. I really do. I'm just starting the SL5x5 program and I'd much rather do it at home. Once our gym membership is expired, my husband would like to lift at home as well. We decided to look into purchasing some used or cheap, but still quality, equipment that will work for me and my puny weights now but can…

Dr. Oz Miracle Pill?!
Anyone else getting these emails about the new miracle weight loss pill from Dr. Oz? No diet or exercise necessary! I've already purchased ten bottles. I'm so excited to lose (loose?) the extra weight without putting any effort into it whatsoever. This 500 calorie diet isn't working, anyway! I'm only losing 2.5 lbs per…

Biggest nutrition/weight loss/fitness pet peeves?
I, for one, hate the word "skinny." I hate when girls on here say, "I just want to be skinny!" Why? There's nothing sexy about being skinny. There's nothing hot about a thigh gap. Fit is the new skinny! Being healthy is more important than looking like Jessica Alba. I also hate when women say they don't want to do strength…

What size whole chicken should I get?
I'm planning on cooking a whole chicken in the crock pot next week and I need it to yield at least 6 4-oz servings. Should a 4 lb chicken do it or will I need more?

How many calories should my husband be eating?
Gaining weight has never been a problem for me, to say the least, so I have no experience with this. My husband is 24, 5'9", and about 155 lbs. He lifts four days per week; no cardio. According to my calculations, his BMR is 1685 and his TDEE is 2390. He wants to bulk, so he has upped his calorie intake and protein (1 g…

Monthly Challenges
This month I decided to take on my first challenge - the 30 Day Plank Challenge. I've never done anything like this before, but I'm excited about it. I have some questions for those of you that are into these challenges, though. 1.) I know the challenge exercise is an addition to my daily exercise. However, did you ever…

NSV Thread!
Tell me about your most recent NSV (non-scale victory, for the newbs)! Mine: I just ate a homemade salad for lunch without hating every last bite of it. Yay for developing a taste for vegetables!

Grocery Shopping/Budget Questions!
1. How much do you spend weekly on groceries? Be sure to mention how many people are in your household and if the amount you give includes other household items like toilet paper, shampoo, pet food, etc. 2. For those of you eating right on a budget ($50 or less per adult), how do you do it? Do you coupon? If not, what…

What do you do on "fat days" - if you have any?
I have my good days and bad days. Some days I feel pretty good about myself and how I look. Other days, like today, are what I like to call "fat days" - days when I avoid mirrors and wonder why the hell I bought this outfit in the first place when it makes my hips look huge. Days when I wonder why I'm working so hard only…

NSV: Resisting Office Treats
I graduated from college in December and I am now working as a legal assistant at a law firm. I've never had a job where I sat at a desk all day, so it's been a bit of an adjustment. Aside from the lack of activity, the biggest challenge is that the firm provides a treat on each employee's birthday. They get to pick their…

Go Britney, it's ya birthday!
Check out the new bikini bod Britney Spears is rocking: https://celebrity.yahoo.com/blogs/celeb-news/britney-spears-flaunts-fit-bikini-bod-014017113.html I haven't been a huge fan of hers since I was 14 and dancing in my room to Hit Me Baby One More Time, but I think she looks awesome. What a MILF. :)

Another day of food - what do you think?
Last one, I promise! Still working on going from no vegetables to an acceptable amount! PROTEIN SHAKE (post-workout) 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1 oz baby spinach, 1/2 frozen banana, 1 cup almond milk, 1/2 cup water, and a few ice cubes BREAKFAST 1 cup of oatmeal with brown sugar and cinnamon made with 1/2 cup almond…

Sodium?
How often, if ever, do you find yourself going over your sodium limit? I do about 3-4 days per week. I haven't noticed any bloating, but my weight loss is pretty slow. I know how to cut sodium, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to quite yet. Just looking to see if I'm the only one and any experiences others may have had with…

Carbonated Water?
I recently decided to pick up one of these big bottles of Clear sparkling/carbonated water in the flavor Pineapple Coconut while grocery shopping at Walmart. YUM! Wow, best thing I've tasted all week. It's got 0 calories, sugar, sodium...everything basically. And they were 60 cents per bottle! My question is this: is there…

Arugula?
I've noticed that SkinnyTaste.com has arugula in quite a few recipes. I've never tried arugula, so I'm wondering if I should buy it or just substitute it for something else. I'm not a big vegetable/lettuce person, but I don't mind baby spinach (or romaine, if it's covered in Caesar dressing). I know none of you can tell me…

Homemade Instant Oatmeal "Packets" - YUM!
So, some people have no problem getting up early and cooking their breakfast on the stove. I do have a problem with this, as I don't want to wake up any earlier than I have to. Therefore, I like to sleep a little longer and make a quick, convenient breakfast that I can eat at my desk at work. I like oatmeal, but the…

Easy healthier caesar salad?
I recently discovered that I like Caesar salads with grilled shrimp, which would be easy to prepare at home and bring for lunch at work. I know Caesar dressing is typically filled with fat, so would using the "light" version be okay? I"m pre-logging my food for next week to make sure everything will fit into my macros, and…

How to season ground turkey for burgers?
I'm making spinach feta turkey burgers this week and I'm not working off of any particular recipe. I'm trying to figure out what seasonings I should use in the actual meat. Poultry seasoning? Garlic powder? Seasoned salt? Every recipe I find for turkey burgers has soy or Worsheshire sauce or has bread crumbs and eggs. I…

Help me pick a healthy lunch option!
I'm going out to lunch tomorrow with a coworker. We'll be going to Mellow Mushroom (http://mellowmushroom.com/store/columbia/menu/14/pizza) I've already taken out my planned lunch and afternoon snack to make room. I was thinking I could do the small Enlightened Spinach Salad (Fresh spinach topped with dried cherries,…

Help me make sense of my measurements, please!
I've never taken body measurements before now. I really wish I would've done it at the beginning, but better late than never! Since I'm down to my last 10 lbs, I figured I may see more results on the measuring tape than I will on the scale, especially since I'm doing strength training. Height - 5'5" CW - 140 lbs Thigh -…

Anyone else shocked by how weak they are/were?
I just started lifting heavy (for me) using free weights in compound exercises instead of isolated moves on machines. I was utterly shocked by how weak I am. I was only able to do 40 lbs on the overhead press with the barbell, only 45 lbs on weighted squats (though, I think the problem was that I was trying to do a deep…

What are some popular healthy foods that you hate?
Here are some of mine... Hummus - I really wanted to like this stuff, so I tried many varieties/brands/flavors and types of crackers/bread/veggies to dip with. I just don't get the allure - BLECH! Carrots - I don't mind them cooked to the point that they're mush in stews or soups, but the only way I can eat them raw is if…

Food Weighing Basics?
I plan on FINALLY buying a food scale this weekend while I'm out grocery shopping and I will begin using it next week. Up until now, I have been measuring liquids and solids in measuring cups and sometimes I just guess using little tricks like "4 oz=palm of the hand" for meat. I'm excited to start weighing my food, and…

Is anything really accurate?
Things I hear a lot on MFP.... Bathroom scales aren't very accurate. Food scales aren't 100% accurate. Using measuring cups to measure food/drink is SO inaccurate. The caloric burn listed on MFP is an overestimation. HRMs don't give you an entirely accurate reading. TDEE calculators are just a rough estimation. Scooby's…

Calories in marinaded meat?
Wow, that sounds a tad sexual, but it's not! If I marinade chicken breast in fat free Italian dressing, for example, how can I count the calories that I'll actually consume once the meat is removed from the dressing and cooked? I usually just count it as 2 tbsp of the marinade I'm using - does that sound like too much? Not…

Help me decide on a quick dinner!
Next Friday night is a gym night, so I'm looking for something super quick and simple, but still tasty and rich in protein, that I can whip up a couple hours before I hit the gym for strength training. I've got about 450 calories to spare and I'll be 24 g of protein away from my goal. Other macros - I can spare 56 g carbs…

Adding spinach to vanilla protein shake?
I've seen a lot of people suggesting blending veggies like baby spinach to protein shakes. However, spinach and vanilla? How does that taste? Most of the recipes I've seen have 1/2 of a frozen banana added or something, but will it taste alright with just the vanilla protein powder, water, and some almond milk? Would…

Full Body Workout Routine - Part 2
Okay, so I just posted a question about designing my own full-body routine that I can do at the gym once per week, but people didn't seem to be reading what I said or reading my responses to answers. Long story short: my routine sucked. So I did some research, tried to take advice from the people that answered my question,…

Full Body Workout Routine?
With my work schedule, I can only get to the gym one night per week - the rest of the week I work out at home using FitnessBlender.com. I usually do a lower body routine Monday, upper body Tuesday, abs and cardio Wednesday, cardio Thursday (usually kickboxing), and then I go to the gym on Friday for a full-body strength…

What are your macros set to?
Mine are 45% carbs/30% protein/25% fat. (I customized the standard 50% carbs, 30% fat, 20% protein that MFP gives because....well, because I wanted more protein and less fat and carbs.) What are yours? Do you actual percentages actually line up with your goals?
