I'm Sexy and I Know It - My First Year of Strength Training
I started 2013 with a simple resolution to pick up a barbell and start making my body as sexy as I could. I had always been overweight and honestly just wanted to not get a telling off every time I went to the doctor. I had met, both in person and online, a number of women who lifted heavy and really, REALLY wanted to be…

Is It Strength Training or Circuits?
I've been doing a personal training programme based largely on machines which I'm now doing on free-weights at home too. I do the following exercises on the following reps: Leg Press (Squat at home) - 8-12 x3 (moving to single leg presses at work soon because I'm working with the whole stack at 140kg plus a 5kg plate,…

Should I take this as a warning?
I'm having to explain to a personal trainer who I've been working with (in detail) the purpose of bulking and cutting. I'm losing confidence in him with every character typed. Should I take this as a warning and walk away? He's good on form but his nutrition advice is execrable!

I don't think I've ever looked better - 10kg/22lb down
I was a chubby child. Not on the scale of some kids today but I liked my food. I was a fat teenager. Not obese but certainly bigger than average and absolutely horrified at gym (fat, unfit and bullied tend to put a girl off). I got even fatter in my early 20s. At the point that I came out of a bad relationship at 22, I…

Body Fat Percentage Blues
I'll start off by apologising for such a long and rambling post. The TL;DR is a. is it probable that my BF scales are hideously inaccurate, b. which of the two BF% calculations sound more likely and c. how low does my BF% have to be before I bulk? I know that body fat scales are hideously inaccurate, but it's starting to…

High Calorie Snacks
My husband has been eating pretty much what I eat but doesn't need to lose weight, so he's been dropping weight like rocks. He's on 2500-3000 for maintenance and I'm cutting at 1900-2000. I need to give him high calorie, healthy, snacks to keep him from losing more weight. Any suggestions?

Shock! Horror! Women Lifting!
Does anyone else get this response from friends and family when you talk about strength training? I'm starting to find it really irritating. Even friends who would consider themselves feminist are horrified that I love it so much... because it's not feminine. ARGH!

Crutches Advice
I'm stuck on crutches for the next few weeks after tearing calf muscles in both legs, and I think I'm doing okay on them so far, but I'm developing massive bruises on the palms of my hands. Does anyone have any advice on how to minimise these bruises or do I just have to live with them? On the plus side, my triceps and…

Exercising with Legs Out of Action
I've managed to make my calf strain MUCH worse in the past couple of days by the heinous crime of walking in the cold air (seriously, no running, not even power-walking, just trying to get between meetings) so I think I'm going to have to go completely cold turkey on the legs for at least a week or so (I'm going to speak…

Is It Strength Training or Circuits?
I posted this in a group but didn't get any response so I thought I'd ask more widely. I've been doing a personal training programme based largely on machines which I'm now doing on free-weights at home too. I do the following exercises on the following reps: Leg Press (Squat at home) - 8-12 x3 (moving to single leg…

Buying a Barbell
I'm thinking of buying this barbell. Will a 150kg rated bar be enough? I'm thinking of ordering this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/York-80-Beefy-Bar-Plain/dp/B0015ULUZI/ref=sr_1_1?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1361975415&sr=1-1

Training Advice
I know machine weights basically suck but I'm doing two days a week of a personal trainer formulated progressive strength programme (3 sets of each 6-10 reps of leg press, 8-12 reps chest press, building up to 8 pull ups and 6-10 reps shoulder press and moving on once I'm managing two sets at top reps). My gym at work…

Bras in the USA
Okay, I don't mean to come across as snarky, but regular posts about how hard it is to find DD+ sports bras make me wonder how far behind the USA is with DD+ bras. You can buy bras up to a F, FF or G cup in most supermarkets (even if they aren't always great quality in Asda) and department stores in the UK and it's not too…

£4000 on Bootcamp and Lose 30lb in a Month... Thoughts?
I just saw this article and whilst she looks great, I do have to wonder how healthy losing that much weight that quickly can be... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2277941/What-way-Fast-food-fanatic-spends-4-000-redundancy-money-month-long-boot-camp--sheds-stone.html

Feeling really proud but...
...No one in real life really cares! One month into my new training plan the personal trainer I'm working with just retested my 1RM on chest press, lateral pulldown and shoulder press (I couldn't get my 1RM for leg press as I did the entire stack). I was really worried that the trainer was going to be cross with me as I…

I feel like I've never eaten more!
I'm feeling like an absolute pig. I'm eating healthy; trying to meet my protein macros; having lots of vegetables... Yet, I feel like I'm eating way more than I used to. I'm having a good breakfast, large-ish lunch and good dinner plus morning and evening snacks and sometimes even pudding at night... Yet I'm usually under…
