Beginning. Again. At 60.
Hi. G'morning. I'm 60. I'm raising my toddler grandsons. Almost for 2 years now. With my 70 year old ex husband. I'm exhausted. All the time. I work full time. Boys keep is hopping. I've got health issues: lupus, high blood pressure, and cardiac electrophysiology issues. I've had two cardiac ablations. I've lost weight…

How do I get started, again?
Hi. I am a 59 year old grandma of two grandsons who are 3/1, but soon to be 4/18 months. In December, I got custody of them due to neglect and drug abuse from the parents, my daughter and her husband. I moved from one city to another, 65 miles away, to my ex husband's house, and Grandpa. I work full time, and it was going…

40th HS reunion in August
G’morning. I will be 57 this Thursday. I’ve been doing this weight loss dance all my life. Up and down. Whether it be lupus and having to take steroids and I gain weight, or a car accident 6 years ago putting me in bed between two major neck surgeries, or a broken arm and elbow 9 months ago that puts me behind in the race.…

Fifty five days to my Sprint Triathlon.
I went for my longest bike ride today. I did 20 miles where I live. I’m getting closer to feeling like I’m ready for this. I’ve had a wild road between my last (and only) triathlon over 5 years ago. I had a bad car accident needed several neck surgeries to get my herniated disc’s in the neck fixed. My neck still hurts from…

Hiking in Central Virginia
I am looking for like minded folks who have done hiking recently or in the past. I am a New York City native and having hiked some of the tougher regional area hikes in the last 8 weeks have amazed me. I have done Sharp Top and Flat Top of the Peaks of Otter on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I have done Devil's Marbleyard in…

Back again...
Well, I've been on MFP for over 3 years but do to some addiction challenges that sent me shoplifting (I'm not particularly proud of this but it is what it is and part of Celebrate Recovery~a Christian based 12 step program~is to accept it, face it, fight it, move forward in faith), I went to jail for 9 months. I just got…

My son, Future Marine, 40 pound transformation
My son William, who is 18, wrote this on Facebook yesterday. It is incredibly inspirational for me to read, and I believe it will be for many other people. Of course, I can't tell you how proud I am. How amazed that I raised such a fine young man. Even if this just inspires one person, I will be happy. Thank you for…

The Walking Dead Season Finale tonight
I started watching this show when my teenage son told me about it two years ago. I got caught up on Netflix and we've been watching it together on Sunday nights ever since. He's 18 now, will graduate in 6 weeks, has joined the Marines and I know we won't be watching it together for the beginning of the next season.…

A pain in the neck.
Hi. I'm a 51 year old woman who a year ago did my first Triathlon. I'd worked to lose and train for it. I did several 5k's in the past. I was very active and loved it all. I was so heathy, having come off my lupus & BP meds. Last year around February I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in the neck. I ignored it…

Mio water enhancer and Mio energy
I have cut back to almost no soft drinks (I don't drink coffee so I do drink a coke zero every so often to get a caffeine buzz if I need it) and pretty much just use this to make sweet tea. It has no calories and no caffeine, two big pluses. I was just wondering if anyone else drinks it and your thoughts....

Am I flipping nuts?
Going on my second bike ride in my adult life on Sunday. My first was a month ago in a Sprint Triathlon. That ride was only 15.5 miles. Sunday it is 45 miles and here is a map of the elevations. O M G Yeah I am nuts but wooo what a rush it will be when I finish. You know why I wanted to do this ride? Because the promoter…

The Spoon Theory
Today is World Lupus Awareness Day. What is lupus you ask? Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can affect various parts of the body, including the skin, joints, heart, lungs, blood, kidneys and brain. Normally the body's immune system makes proteins called antibodies, to protect the body against viruses, bacteria, and…

Reasons behind doing my first Sprint Triathlon
OK so this was supposed to be a blog but for the life of me I can't figure out how to post it. Can we all say NOOB?? Howdy :) This is my foray into the blogging world so please be kind as I am NOT a writer, or a grammatical expert but I am something of a spelling Nazi. So IF you do find a misspelled word, feel free to…

Race pictures from my first Sprint Triathlon
I am just posting these so my MFP friends can see them :) As much as I love MFP, I wish their picture posting format was as user friendly as Facebook. I did my first Sprint Triathlon last weekend and I finally got hold of some photos from the race. Run, Forest, Run My entourage welcoming me at the finish line. You can see…

What do you think?
This topic is so unrelated to weight loss but I prefer this community to Facebook so here goes. I have a dear friend from HS who lives in NC , 52 years of age, single, recently diagnosed with stomach cancer, stage 4. He is currently undergoing chemo and has 4 more rounds left. They give him 1-2 years if the chemo can't put…

Once the race posts some pics/results I will have more information to share but for now I can you tell I just completed my first Sprint Triathlon and I am…

Losing weight is lucky??
I was having a chat with one of my best friends yesterday about weight loss and she said, "If only I was that lucky'. Any one of us who have done the battle of the bulge know there are many components needed in achieving our goals or losing any kind of weight: dedication, determination, motivation, drive, support, MFP, etc…

My first Sprint Triathlon
is in 5 days. I am as trained as I can get, both mentally and physically. I hope! I have read, studied, gleaned, picked other triathlete's brains, asked strangers at the gym, posted in the triathlon forum, but here I am one more time. Do you have ANY advice you wish to give a novice for a first Sprint Triathlon? The pool…

Hit the century mark :) Not at goal weight yet though
I started my journey May, 2012 at 276 pounds and I hit 175 on the scale yesterday. I walked for the first 7 months and watched my diet. I joined MFP in January, really started watching what I ate, and joined the YMCA. I started the C25K also in January and completed my first 5k 3/9/13 at 34:50. There are no magic potions…

The Race
My Uncle Tommy wrote this poem when he was 25 years old, from a wheelchair, as a quadriplegic. Aptly, this is called The Race. He ran his race, and won. He inspired me when he was alive, and continues to do so from Heaven. Today would have been his 76th birthday. I will be competing in my first Sprint Triathlon on April…

I'm so darn proud of myself
A year ago I was so overweight and out of shape and today I just finished my first triathlon. Now granted, it was an indoor one but it was a great warmup for my first real Sprint Triathlon in 3 weeks. AND I finished 5th overall women's. And I am 50!! Not bad for an old broad, eh?

Help~~First 5k Saturday and welcome tips
I am very new to running as I started the C25K on New Years. I can run an hour straight on the treadmill but due to the weather I haven't done much outside. Having said that, I stepped up my cardio in mid January with cycling, elliptical, and strength training. My overall fitness is good although I have 30-35 pounds left…
