Trying to kick artificial sweeteners
I went cold turkey on artificial sweeteners after eating an intense amount of them the past few days and noticing how starving I was all day every day. Figured there may be a link. Needless to say between the holidays and my sugar cravings, I totally went off the rails and ate a stupid amount of calories. Has anyone else…

What 'food rules' or 'life rules' do you live by to maintain your weight?
It seems to me that everyone has sort of a food philosophy when it comes to the way they approach their lives and I was curious what personal standbys some of you may have to continue having success in weight maintenance. Some examples I've heard in the past are: 1) I count my calories every day, my limit is XXXX per…

Sharing my recipe for high protein bread
Hello :) I wanted to share my recipe for making high protein bread that's vegan with you all. :) To the best of my knowledge, bread with this high of protein cannot be purchased or regularly found in stores! But it's cheap and easy if you have a breadmaker (I got mine on Craigslist for $10). The quality of this bread is…

challenge: Log ALL the things for the next 7 days
who else wants to? My scale hasn't been moving and I feel like I need a kick in the butt. I plan to log every stupid little thing until Wednesday PM. Every bite, lick, taste, little bit of this, little bit of that. Weighing when possible, measuring when not possible or practical.

When does losing 2lbs per week become unreasonable?
I see a lot of people trying to lose 10-20 lbs being told that losing those lbs at a rate of two pounds per week is going to be tough if not downright impossible. However, I was wondering around where that threshold might be. 30 lbs? 40 lbs? 50? When does a person drop down from 2lbs/wk to 1.5, to 1, etc. How many pounds…

How do you make yourself snack/eat more mindfully
I have been dealing with some minor health problems as of late (an injury on my hand got infected, got hives, time of the month, then I got a cold) and I am realizing just how important self care really is on this journey. I realized that not only do I go to food when I feel bad emotionally, I also do it when I feel bad…

Highish Protein Cold Salad Recipe I made up - yum
This recipe is the bomb and it is easy to make high protein and lowish carb which is super hard to find in our vegan world I think. I've adapted it from a local salad a deli near me carries. You need: 2 cups of wheatberries (BUT I used TVP which met my macros better and I like the taste/texture here) cooked or prepared 1…

How do you log breaks between sets during weight lifting?
More specifically - On days I do Strong Lifts 5x5, I do 5 sets of 5 reps of an exercise, with a 1.5-5 min break between sets. So I may be working out for 45 min but I may be only physically lifting a fraction of that time (say 15 min out of 45 minutes.) So do you put in 45 min or 15 min as weight lifting? It's a mild…

I think Kraft Lite Thousand Island dressing is vegan!
Which shocked me because so many "creamy" dressings seem to have milk and/or eggs in them. But I looked at the ingredients three times and there were no gotchas! So excited to have a creamy texture dressing that's low on cals (50 cals for 34 grams!) yes! Been vegan six months now - never plan to stop.

A daily meal plan deficient in (almost) nothing
I just spent a few hours on cronometer.com which is a cool website that helps you determine what vitamins/minerals you're deficient in and by how much. I was able to put together a 944 calorie daily plan that a person could eat and if they did, they would not be deficient in any minerals except: Omega 6 Fats and Fat in…

How can a total newb get started in team sports?
I am interested in joining some type of competitive team activity like a team sport. For example, softball, bowling league, etc. I am hoping someone here can suggest what I might be able to do to achieve this. I have some problems figuring out how to do it though. 1) I am new to this town and I don't really know anyone…

When to get rid of clothes strategy - thoughts?
I have been weight training and doing very little cardio as well as sticking mostly to 1200-1400 cals/day. The weight is not falling off as fast as it did in my 20s. That's cool but it makes the motivation part a little harder. I am considering getting rid of every single piece of clothing that is even a LITTLE baggy or…
