COVID vaccine water weight gain?
This is purely a curiosity question....but did anyone else experience a water weight gain when receiving the vaccine? I got my first dose Wednesday, and the next day I had a 3 lb jump on the scale! Since then I've been up about 2 lbs. I'm not fretting about it..I just thought it was interesting and wondered if anyone else…

Les Mills Fans?
Anyone else doing their live classes or Les Mills on Demand? I did Bodypump and BodyCombat at the gym, but I've been branching out since I started the on demand subscription. Really enjoying Sh'bam!

Do you pets "help" you workout?
Ever since quarantine started I've been doing workouts at home rather than going to the gym, as I'm sure a lot of others have. It's been so cold outside this last week that I've been doing more indoor workouts. My cats usually likes to keep me company by laying on my yoga mat, mimicking me, laying right my way while I'm…

Les Mills RPM
I've been doing Les Mills workouts at my gym for years, but since the start of COVID I haven't been back. I got a Les Mill On Demand subscriptions a few weeks ago, and I'd like to try their RPM indoor cycling program. I've heard the Peloton bikes are only compatible with a Peloton subscription (not to mention expensive).…

Potassium sources
So I'm doing the Zumba instructor training next week. I've heard it's pretty intense (about 3 or 4 hours of dancing), and a few people have suggested taking potassium heavy snacks to keep from getting cramps. I take a diuretic medicine for high BP as it is, so I'd like to be extra prepared. I plan to get some bananas, but…

Soups!
It's been cold outside lately, so of course I've been on a soup kick. Today I'm planning to make this Italian wedding soup for the week: Author: Mary Ann Dwyer Servings: 4-6 INGREDIENTS Meatballs: 1/2 lb. ground chuck 1/4 cup Italian panko bread crumbs 2 Tbsp. parmesan cheese 1 Tbsp. chopped fresh parsley 1 garlic clove,…

BHT/BHA in foods
As a general rule, I'm not too concerned about clean eating or anything like that. I have to admit, though, that I've always been a little nervous about consuming products with BHT or BHA listed as a preservative, mainly due to the negative hype surrounding it. Since there are folks here who are way more knowledgeable…

Celebrity Chefs
Do you have certain celebrity or famous chefs/cooks that you like to watch/follow? If so, why? I have a pretty extensive list of them, but here are a few of my top favorites: Alton Brown - I'm a nerd, so his approach appeals to me. I like how he tries to explain the science behind what goes on in his recipes, and seeks out…

Country Heat workouts
I noticed Beachbody released this new workout program sometime last month...the instructor is Autumn Calabrese. There aren't any reviews on Amazon for it, so I was curious to see if anyone here has tried it, and what you think of it. I've never done any of the BB workouts, but thought this might be fun. P.S. Not selling…

Shoes for Zumba?
I am fortunate enough to have a great employer that has limited workout classes, including Zumba, onsite at lunch. My current issue that the room we have the classes in is carpeted, so my shoes are always catching on the floor when trying to slide, spin, etc....does anyone have any good shoe suggestions that work well for…

Skinny taste cookbook
I picked this book up from Amazon awhile back, but finally just started using it today. I made the baked oatmeal with nectarines and blackberries in place of apples for breakfast this week, and it turned out to be pretty good! For those of you who have the book, do you have any favorite recipes you would recommend trying,…

Restaurant suggestions
Some friends and I are planning to go to Chicago in the near future, and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for good restaurants, preferably in the downtown area? (Giardano's is already on the list! :) ) Preferably some with some good lower calorie options...

Mediterranean Diet
My GP gave me some info about this diet and I'm becoming very interested. I read the info on the Mayo Clinic site and am slowly changing my lifestyle to this way of eating. Heart disease, etc...runs in my family so I'd like to know how valid the research is. Are there others who have followed this lifestyle as well? Are…

Insanity boot camp?
My employer is offering Insanity Boot camp as one of the regular lunch time fitness classes. I've never done insanity before; is the boot camp more difficult? I've done LM Body Attack in the past and really enjoyed it - is it a similar workout/intensity? Thoughts?

Fitness Instructor Training
I've been playing with the idea of becoming a kickboxing or a yoga instructor for a few years now. I know they've been hoping to find a reliable KB instructor at work for classes at lunchtime. Mainly in just looking for some feedback from those of you who are currently teaching group exercise classes. What is the…

Falling in love with the process
For those struggling with staying on track... So often I see people posting about being discouraged and wanting to give up because the results aren't coming as quickly as they'd like, or that losing weight is too tough... I vaguely remember reading a blog post about motivation once, and how in order to reach your goals, it…

A 'healthy' article

Cheese
Let's talk about one of my favorite foods! :-) Here in the Midwest, cheese is treated almost like a condiment. I've had to teach myself to break the habit of just mindlessly adding it to everything, especially shredded cheese, to things like salads as it adds little flavor but quickly packs on extra calories. I prefer to…
