Oh dear God it hurts to live!
Yesterday, I lifted for the first time since high school. I felt pretty badass right afterward, but today I'm sooo incredibly sore. I expected to be pretty sore, but expected nothing quite like this. I mean, I earlier, I had been standing for about half an hour when my legs just decided that they weren't going to hold me…

How to do 30DS and running
I'm pretty darn out of shape at the moment. I've heard so many great things about the 30 Day Shred, and I've had the DVD for several months, but haven't done it seriously yet. I really want to do it, but I also want to run. I'm training for a 5K, and I do not want to have to stop and walk. How do people normally…

Curious about lifting, terrified of the weight room
I'm a 23-year-old overweight female. I've seen so many people on here saying "lift heavy!" I assume they mean free weights. I actually used to lift when I was 15 and 16 years old, so I kind of know what to do, but I've forgotten pretty much what all the lifts are called and I may have forgotten proper form. There's a…

I ran (most of) 5K today!
I did the Color Run today. I didn't think I'd run the entire thing, and I didn't. However, I did get 2/3 of the way through before I had to walk, and that's waaay more than I thought I'd be able to do! Even after walking a bit, I was able to pick up and run again. I had an incredible amount of fun doing it, and plan on…

Choosing a running shoe?
Hello. I'm trying to pick up running. I've looked at some posts about running and avoiding injury, and most seem to say that it comes down to the shoes. I've developed shin splints, and posted on that. People told me to get good shoes. The problem is that I have no idea what to look for in a shoe. I've gotten lots of…

I wanna try it all!
I was into running in high school. I want to get back into it. I hired a personal trainer last semester who had me doing circuit training. I didn't lose weight, but I felt stronger and had more energy. I think the sexiest women alive do kickboxing, and I totally want to look like that. I'm intrigued by all of the heavy…

Shin splints a week before my first 5k!
I need to know what to do. I have a 5K next Saturday, and really, really want to participate. I paid $40 for this, which is a lot for a broke college student. Is there a way I can fix this in a week, or am I just going to have to pop some pain killers the day of? Can anybody out there help me out here?

rest days
I'm doing circuit training 3x/week and cardio 2x/week, leaving me with 2 rest days. On rest days, if I feel like I could work out, should I? Or would that be a bad idea? I'm fairly out of shape, but I've seen progress in only a week's time, and it's tempting to skip resting tomorrow and go for a run. I typically hate…

Returning to running
I ran cross-country and track in high school. I loved it... for some reason that I can't seem to remember. I hated the competitions, but loved the workouts. I was never very fast, but I the longer the run, the more I liked it. I don't recall weather ever stopping me from running, unless the road was icy. I have since…

What motivates you when you're just not feeling it?
I'll be honest. I hate working out. I hate sweating. I hate the feeling in my chest when my heart rate goes up and I breathe more rapidly. I hate the way my face gets all red and ugly after 10 minutes.I hate the way my fat jiggles around when I move. I hate feeling like the only fat person surrounded by athletes at the…

Feeling full, but way under my Calorie goal
I have several dietary restrictions as I'm undergoing an elimination diet to see if I have any food triggers for my migraines. As a result, foods I used to eat all the time that were Calorie-dense are restricted. No eggs, soy, wheat, cheese, yogurt, nuts, dried fruit/veggies, or aged meats. This pretty much rules out all…

Consistently going over my sugar allowance
I find it difficult to stay under my allowed sugar for the day. Yesterday, for example, I had an apple (14 g) and an orange (9 g). That's already 23 grams of my allowed 30 grams per day. When I added in my broccoli and kidney beans that I ate (each 4 g), it already puts me at 31 g. And that's before adding in my red…
