Success doesn't always look the same
I finally reached my goal. Not my goal weight, but my goal. I reached goal weight (or thereabouts) in October 2014 when I lost 70 lbs (1/3rd of my body weight), but that was just one step in the total journey. But my reasons for losing the weight weren't to do with reaching a number. I only lost it for health reasons. My…

Over one year after reaching target and those NSVs keep rolling in
I reached my target over a year ago. I'm currently focusing on losing 10 lbs more to get me at the lower end of my target range after learning how my new body reacts to business trips, vacations etc (hint: not well), but I really wanted to share this. I was getting the laundry together this week and suddenly realized that…

Eco-Atkins/high-fat, lower-carb mostly-vegan?
Just out of curiosity, are there any other (relatively) low-carbers out there following a mostly vegan diet, particularly for health reasons? I eat some fish and eggs, and non-fat dairy, but eat nuts and seeds and oils to get about 40% calories from fat.

Loose skin - 5 months on
I wanted to post this because I see a lot of nervous MFPers in the Weight Loss boards asking about loose skin and surgery, and I wanted to reassure. I never worried about the downside of weight loss, because I was purely motivated to lose by my health. I've never cared particularly about my physical appearance (that hasn't…

Snow shovelers unite! Winter 2014/15
I thought this would make a fun "challenge" thread. Some of us have to shovel snow anyway, but as long as you're reasonably healthy (back, heart etc.) it is a great cardio workout. Use of snow-blower doesn't count!!! I'll start! As of today (Jan 12, 2015) Time: 254 minutes Estimated burn: 711 calories (via Garmin HRM)

How to stop MFP from changing goals/settings
Sorry if this has already been posted somewhere else.. I am set to "maintain" in MFP, calories set manually at 1700 (which changes with Garmin vivofit), macros set manually by me. So, how do I stop MFP from changing both my "weekly goal" from "maintain" to lose/gain weight if my weight goes up/down a couple of pounds AND…

33% body mass reduction, 65 lbs gone in 9 months
I don't have many (any?) photos (I'm just not a selfie kinda person), but thought I'd include my weight chart instead, because a few people have asked me about it. I started tracking using a spreadsheet, because the charting is powerful and flexible, and I found that including factors such as TOM, helped me understand what…

Milestone: Into "healthy" BMI range
I crossed over from "overweight" to "healthy" today, after crossing over from "obese" to "overweight" at the very beginning of April. I know BMI is subjective as a individual metric, but it's still a huge milestone, and actually corresponds quite nicely to waist-height ratio for me. I was concerned that I would mentally…

NSVs - 3 new ones
1. I've lost my double chin. It's just... gone. Even when I scootch my chin down onto my chest I can't get one. 2. I can wear the beautiful silk kimono robe DH got me in China and it fits (it's designed for Asian sizing) 3. (My fave) I can wear my engagement ring again

What do you tell your young kids about your weight loss?
I've lost a very visible amount of weight (15% of my body weight.. YIPPEE!) since the end of January, and I have about 20-25 lbs to go, but I haven't really discussed this with my 8 year-old daughter beyond that I'm working on getting healthier. I am very aware that daughters in particular watch their mothers' eating…

What to look for in a personal trainer?
I'm considering some personal training at some point in the future. After I lose the lard, I'd like to focus on building up muscle, but I'm clueless and want to make sure I protect my back, which has been dodgy in the past. I'll probably join my local Y, which has a great reputation, so I can "lurk" around the fitness…

Moved out of "obese" BMI category
Dropped 25lbs since January 20. About another 30lbs until I move out of "overweight". Yeah, I know BMI isn't everyone's favorite metric, but it works for me..
