Work, sleep, family, friends, fitness - which 3?
I read a post by Randi Zuckerberg (Mark's sister) on this topic called "the enterpreneur's dilemma". To do any of them well, something's got to take back burner. I default to work, family and sleep. When the family is away, I swap in fitness. What about you?

You know you've got a good one when....
A lot of threads focus on the crappy lack of support people's friends, sig others, family etc... offer during our journeys. This is not one of those. ;) I switched to pescatarian about a month ago, additionally cutting out most dairy and grain. Basically eating fish and veg, and frankly I am by nature a…

First successful "cure" I have found for PMS/PMT
I have asked, and many others have asked if there was any way to lessen the cravings, bloating, tempermental hurricane that defines PMS/PMT for so many of us. Exercise and reducing carbs helps...a bit. 5-HTP seems to reduce it by about 75%. I start it the first day I feel like eating everything that's not nailed down or…

Results - Booyah!!
Had my physical with bloodwork. 24 pounds down and the doctor said he cannot remember the last time he saw a patient with numbers so low. Inflammation was too low to be measured, cholesterol, blood pressure etc were like a marathon runner's. I went essentially pescatarian back in April, started adding in walking, and…

Just learned this trick
I often have a hard time enforcing a "STOP" to a meal. If I set my portion sizes and all, I am often not ready to stop eating when the food is gone....even if I no longer have the sensation of hunger, I do not always feel satiated. A glass of red wine will do it. To keep it reasonable, at lunch I have a white wine glass,…

Awesome motivation
So, I have dropped 10 pounds this month. Got my first "wow, you look skinny" from two of my girlfriends on the same path as I am. But that's not the point. We had a team event today at work. Climb Mt. Monadnock, followed by beers and bbq at the base. I am moderately fit, was hiking with a lot of genuine athletes, and a few…

My Magic formula for sticking to it. What's yours?
While I have started many periods of healthy, low calorie eating since having my children, it seems like the stars have to align just so for me to stick it out and achieve my goals. These stars are: a) Start the day after your period starts (if you are a girl, obviously). PMS = diet saboteur! b) Start on a week when you do…

Forbes article on your weight / salary relationship
I read today in Forbes that "thin" women earned an average of $7,000 a year more than their average figured colleagues. For women described as "very thin" this difference increased to $22,000 a year more. I find this both hugely disheartening that we're judged like that, and at the same time bitterly motivating.

XBox Kinect
If you haven't tried this - it's great exercise, and a hella fun. Santa purchased a few games (Dance Central, Kinect Sports and Wipe-Out) and not only are the children getting a lot of winter exercise, mummy and daddy are as well. I cannot workout every day at the gym - this has fulfilled both cardio time as well as family…
