How Many Calories Burned....
....trying to put on a pair of control-top tights?? Whew, that was a workout!! I should not have to be a contortionist to put on tights/stockings. LOL Fell free to add your calorie-burning conundrum....

Smoothies-Good or Bad?
I have been making smoothies for breakfast but I notice they are high in calories and sugar. The sugar is all from fruits, sometimes almond/coconut milk and sometimes honey but they seem like they are more in calories than anything else. For example, today it was spinach, 1/2 banana, a half cup mango, 3 pineapple slices…

6 Month Results?
I was curious if people could share their before/after results as of 6 months. I 'd like to see what transformations have taken place, what exercise regimen was used, and an idea of what foods you ate. To me, 6 months is like a "I can finally tell and people notice" timeline for getting into better shape. Currently I am…

17 Day Diet, Low Calories?
Hello. I am back on MFP after about a year hiatus. Some ladies here at work are doing the 17 Day Diet and have been very successful so I started it yesterday. I am following it closely, the only thing I did differently is I had about 2 TB salsa and 1/2 avocado with my turkey burger last night for dinner. I wasn't going to…

Foods We Are Not Meant to Eat
I don't remember where, but I read that there are foods our bodies are not meant to eat. Like processed foods, milk, grains that are not in their whole form, refuned sugars, etc. Has anyone else heard this? I know with the advance of the Paleo diet and "caveman" eating this may make some sense. I am a believer that your…

Circuit Training as a Catch-All?
Hello. I am back on MFP :) I started on a roller derby league and we practice 2 times a week for 2 hours. The first 10 minutes or so is skating laps, then usually 20 burpees, stretching, and various other drills like suicide drills (relay style). We do have some periods of rest (but not much). Everyone is dripping sweat…

Bento Lunch?
Does anyone here do a bento box style lunch? I have been researching and it looks good for portion control, plus some of the bento boxes are super cute!! Any good ideas to fill your bento box? My current lunch is hummus, cucumbers, carrots and sometimes some tuna if I need extra protein but I want to have a little more…

C25K Distance Question
I re-started the C25K and wondered if I am supposed to be doing 3 miles during the first few weeks of the program. It does not seem like I could do 3 miles in 20 minutes with the run/walk combo, and that is not counting the 5 min warm up and cool down. Last night I did 1.25 miles in 18 minutes (stopped short due to shin…

Dinner Dilemma-Single Serving
Starting tomorrow, I will be a bachelorette for a week. Last time Bob was away, I ate pizza rolls every night for dinner. That is not going to happen this time!! I don't like cooking for only one person, mainly becasue I can't just cook one serving, it is more like 4-6 servings even for just Bob and myself. I don't like…

Increasing/Losing Cardio Endurance??
I was wondering how long it takes to lose any cardio endurance you have built up. I am just getting back into running, but sometimes go 3-4 days between runs. Currently, I am doing 5 min walk warmup, trhen alternating 1 min run with 2 min walk and finishing with a 5 min cool down walk. The 1 minute runs are much easier now…

Running Styles-Right/Wrong
Yesterday I re-started the C25K at the gym. I noticed other runners all have their own style. One girl had really long legs and her strides were long and she looked like a gazelle, fluid movements and very graceful. Another girl was an up-and-down runner and it seemed like she had springs on her shoes with her jumping…

Am I a Dork?
I went to the gym to walk/run the C25K last night. I have my iPod on and I jam along to the music by bobbing my head, mouthing the words to the songs, etc. Musice really motivates me and I want to know if you saw me at the gym doing that, would you think I am crazy ? I am having a good old time when I work out and I am not…

Gadgets Galore!!!
I purchased the Nike+ system about a month ago for my iPod Nano and love it. Just last week, I got a smartphone and I put the Cardio Trainer and Runkeeper. I am going to try and use all three tonight and see what I like the best. I don't have any music on my phone so the apps will just be for tracking time and distance.…

Did I Lose It??
I have not been able to work out for a week due to a food poisoning/possible flu and giving myself a few days to recover. Did I lose any of my muscle mass/cardio endurance?? It has only been a week, I am steady at my weight (lost 3.5 lbs. from being sick, gained 1.5 back so far this week which I expected). I know I won't…

I joined a Gym!!!
I took the plunge and joined a gym. It is more like a fancy community center. Here is a picture of the facility: http://www.freeland-sportszone.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=54&Itemid=57 Downsides: The staff looks to be young college kids, and they were not really paying attention to their jobs. Also, no…

Bring a Dish/Potluck Recipe?
I have a cookout to attend this weekend, and in the past (before MFP) I always made a bacon-cheddar cheese-green onion-toasted almond cracker spread (it is WONDERFUL) because everyone requests it. This time, I want to bring something flavorful and healthy and was thinking of this:…

Gym Membership Worth It?
I usually workout at home to some DVDs and started the C25K also, which I do outside. I don't have any equipment at home except for kettlebells. I was thinking of joining a local gym for the use of cardio equipment but wondered if it's worth it. It would be $20.83/month. Here is the facility:…

I Do Run the "Natural" Way-New Shoes?
So yesterday was the 4th day of doing C25K (repeating Week 1) and I paid attention to how I run, and I do run with my mid-foot and ball striking the ground first. I have been getting a shin splint in my left leg that is uncomfortable and caused me to cut my run short twice, and I am thinking it is a combination of my shoes…

Natural/Barefoot Running???
I just started the C25K Tuesday. My cardio sucks so I decided running is the way to go. I have been doing 30 Day Shred and a kettlebell workout 3-4 times a week for the past month or so, and running seems liberating so I decided to try it. Plus I want to be ready for Zombies  Natural/barefoot running intrigued me,…

Running Issues/Problems
I started C25K last Tuesday. Here is a summary of what has been happening: W1D1 Tuesday May 10: Great start, but my outer thighs felt tight after the third 60 sec running. No pain, just a tight feeling. Sore afterwards, but no pain or soreness the next day. Yay!! W1D2 Friday May 13: Started out great, but now my inner…

Nik+=iPod or Nike Sport band?

Warm Up-Cool Down
What are the best ways to warm up and cool down after workouts? Would the warm up/cool down be different depending on what exercise you are donig? I did a brisk 2.4 mile walk yesterday, stretching before and during, but noting afterwards and want to make sure I am not harming myself. Thanks.
