Mobile phone game: offline, brain use, no candies
Basically I'm looking for a phone game that I can play a bit every day if I feel like it. Needs to play offline as well as I'm traveling quite a bit and often don't have phone signal. Preferably something to think about, maybe something like Lemmings (get something over an obstacle course). No candy crush or anything else…

HR mystery, possibly tech related
I'm trying to solve a HR mystery. When I run regularly I observe some strange things. It doesn't happen with every run, but when it does it's always after around 3km: suddenly the running becomes super easy. When I then look at my phone connected to an optical upper arm sensor my HR is about 15-25bpm lower than it was a…

A huge box of veggies. There'll be lots of cooking (TGTG edition)
I love using Too Good To Go every now and then because I like getting surprising food and having to figure out what to do with it. Today I finally managed to get a leftover veggie and fruit bag from a local supermarket. Which was MASSIVE! This is what I got: (note, about 8 mushrooms were included, but I'm allergic and left…

What's going on here? Bot?
Anyone else noticed a whole group of posts showing up today from similar sounding names (random+ numbers), no images, with similar English, asking very basic questions without providing any information. Has a school class been asked to research nutrition? Is it a bot attempt in creating accounts and posting stuff? Most of…

Other names for these exercises (Garmin users?)
For warmup I'm doing Kettlebell Figure 8 Curl and Haloes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Egzb7XcsgmM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJcmanVh5EE These are not within the Garmin environment. Any idea what alternative exercises I could use here? It has no bearing on calories, but colours targetted muscles on a little guy…

Has MFP been hacked again?
Got a lot of spam since yesterday, all addressed to Yirara - a name I only use here. MFP, what's going on?

What's wrong with the iOS app now? Only getting results in cups/servings
Argh! Since moving to another (European) country (might be coincidence) I only get food in cups or servings! I of course add USDA where needed, and still nothing. I can't get spring onions, onions, garlic, ginger, chili peppers, lots of other things anymore.

Lets do this again
I know if my life is too chaotic then I have problems with eating healthily and not snacking too much. Since August I've been sitting on packed boxes, living in furnished rooms, quitting a new job in another country before starting and moving to yet another town for another job. Also was sick for about 4 weeks during this…

Equalizers/dip bars recommendations
No, not a specific model but more the right type. In all my previous flats I had a useful corner somewhere where I could do dips when I felt like it. Here: nothing at all. And my chairs are not suitable either. I consider buying a cheap pair of dip bars. Was thinking adjustable in height, with wide enough padding on the…

Nervous: moving today
Super nervous! I'm moving today, and there's so much that can go wrong. Most of my belongings and all furniture are in storage belonging to a moving company in another country. And this will be picked up right now. I hope. I'm worried that the company I hired is using a too small van, or that something else goes wrong.…

Anyone here with carnitine deficiency?
Not looking for people who think L-carnitine will help with losing weight or quicker recovery but people who have an actual deficiency. Would like to chat. Been suspected to have a fatty acid oxidation disorder of some type for a while now and started using L-carnitine just as a test until I finally get to see a doctor.…

Steep, mountain hike without lots of training.
I'm having a crazy brainwave again. Can you climb 1800m in elevation if you've never done it and live in a flat country? I'm trying to book a last-minute summer vacation and stumbled over this trail here: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/greece/crete--3/prionia-skala-mytikas?mobileMap=false&ref=sidebar-static-map…

Damn you, weather! Damn you Garmin
Cursing badly at the moment. It's storming, and horizontal rain, and hail. And basically just being horrid weather. I found out that I apparently like the challenges Garmin gives me. Thanks to weather I missed out on the 300k steps in a month challenges three times already despite very long hikes. This coming weekend…

Laryngities from running
Oh great. So I've not run half seriously in years. I've also not experienced this in years either: laryngitis from running. Yeah, I breathe through my mouth as I can't even walk with breathing through my nose. Add a bit of terrain, here a tiny flight of stairs with 6 steps and a railway dam and things might go wrong from…

Covid and job hunting, or: the girl who turned down a job
Thanks to covid my work contract won't be extended. Lets just say my job is very specialized and very limited in the country I'm at now. Probably 70 colleagues in all, and half of them have just been laid off. I'm used to moving around for work. No problem. So the really odd thing happened: I somehow managed to get a new…

One for the: I can't seem to lose weight collection
Most of you here know me. You know I know how CITO works and I've been logging thoroughly with a scale for years and lost and maintained weight. I have a good idea what my daily calorie need is, and it's a wee bit above what MFP gives me. I know about water weight of course. When I'm depressed I have a tendency to gain…

Sushi calories
Anyone want to guess calories? Database entries vary widely. No mayonnaise, only the sushi and sashimi (daikon goes into curty tomorrow).

Energy from carbs and fats - interchangeable?
This is something I've been wondering. I'm sure there's an explanation but I can't find it. When you go on a tempo run and most, if not all of your energy comes from glycogen. Back home you have a tea, then go to bed. Do you lose bodyfat or did you only deplete your glycogen stores until the next morning? I'd think it…

Edamame: calories, and refridgerate?
I had sushi tonight and ordered edamame with it. For some reason the restaurant gave me a huuuuuge pile. They've been steamed I assume and still in shells. Can I keep them in the fridge for a while, or even freeze them? And does anyone have a good calorie entry for them? None of the database entries seem to say whether…

Foot pods with Garmin watch: please help
I'm so terribly annoyed that my super expensive Garmin watch is cutting corners when recording runs (don't care about hiking or cycling). This is annoying because I'm trying to finish a 10k running plan with a time goal. On my phone, which records wonderful tracks I might manage. On my watch, which is about 0:14min/km…

Garmin doesn’t recognize being on the feet?
I worked for 8hrs today, being on my fet the whole time with short moments to sit here and there. I get exactly the same calories as when I’m lazying on the sofa all day. That’s really interesting! Yes, I only got 5000 steps in this time as walking distances vere very shirt. Also got 94 active calories, but those are for…

running same distance slow vs fast. Same calories. Or not?
So there's something that I've been wondering for a while. Running calories are fairly easy: Distance * weight * an efficiency factor. Simples. For some reason my brains want to tell me that running a 10k in 40 minutes burns less calories than doing this in 90 minutes, or a half marathon in 90 minutes vs 3 hours. The…

Calories cycling
I have a good grasp on walking and running calories. Cycling remains an enigma though. Yesterday I took my racebike over small 40km at low speed (rubbish weather) flat terrain in just below two hours. My garmin watch gave me 540 calories for it (gross? Not sure). For now I always used an arbitrary 65kcal net per 5km…
