Yep, lets do that.
Been injured for too long, and have something planned (not saying what - public forum) where being smaller than I am now would be beneficial. Note, I'm not quite overweight but preferred to stay on this somewhat higher weight over the past year or so, but it's too much for 'this'. Thus here goes! Start signal ->🔫

Protein powder 1 or 2x per day? Does it matter?
Currently, and for another 2 weeks on summer vacation. The food here is rather meaty. I don't eat a lot of meat. For that reason I brought a tin of protein powder along. As it turns out it's not a very tasty one while another flavour of this brand tastes bearable but as it's not available in a tin but only a poorly closing…

"Everyone can ..." so fed up
I'm a bit down at the moment. For some reason Social Media is bombarding me with motivational messages such as * in a few months you'll laugh about today's run/you'll be much faster/run longer/whatever * everyone can fast * everyone can build muscle * everyone this and that * Even a friend posted this *kitten* on their…

30 different fruit and veg per week - do you manage?
See question: do you manage to get 30 different fruit and veg per week? Coffee/tea and spices/herbs/garlic/olive oil count as 1/4 point. Highly processed food doesn't count. I don't think I manage because I live alone, have limited fridge/freezer space and can't buy big amounts of fruit and veg because I simple can't store…

Protein powder and bloating.
I'm trying to eat more protein, and am experimenting with a protein powder. Just 15gr vegan powder. It gives me quite a lot of bloating though. Are there other options? Note: I have special dietary needs. I need a fair amount of carbs to function at all. And normally, too much protein without added fat results in reflux.…

Greasing the groove - any pointers?
I want to improve on some muscle imbalance, and I figured this might be the way to go. The question is: What weight/intensity/reps is too much and what about rest days?

Lets talk DOMs.
Just wanting to compare notes. Do your doms appear in the same general area at the same time or do they appear delayed? Like I did lots of squats three days ago. The same night my outer bum started to get severe doms, followed by the uppermost part. Then everything moved more towards the middle, and this is where I still…

To those hypothyroid: insist on med dosage that makes you feel normal!
I've had hashimoto for ages, left untreated for a very long time, managed to lose weight because the influence on energy expenditure is rather low. Since about February I've not been feeling well. Exercising failed, the bit of weight I wanted to lose didn't happen because I didn't log and ate tons of sweets. Note:…

Kettlebell-ish workout. What to change?
Still (yeah, still) recovering from a very nasty shoulder fracture. Can't do everything. My core is useless and so is my upper body. Legs are mostly fine. Just for fun, and hopefully for some improvement I'm doing the following workout: kettlebell halo kettlebell between the legs (this might one day smash a mirror) single…

Turning homesteader's new england baked beans into stew: what veggies to add?
Looking for veggie ideas. Tomorrow and for the following days I want to cook a stew based on a homesteader's new england baked beans kind of dish. I have no idea what the original is, but the recipe I have is a bit sweeter than the original according to the text, also contains smoked paprika. I'll add shredded chicken and…

Calling all cookbook lovers
I have about 50 cookbooks all across the spectrum. What most have in common is that they are full of flavour and mostly weeknight suitable or dishes that are easy to cook in batch and freeze, like soups and stews. Got my 13th month salary a few days ago and went crazy on cookbooks. Basically I bought a lot of things from…

Do I log things that use a different metabolic pathway (ribose)?
I'm not quite sure how to write down this question as I'm not sure I really understand the whole process. I'm currently experimenting with D-Ribose (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ribose), a simple sugar, which, however does not provide energy directly within the blood but helps in energy generation within the…

Calories fluid in tinned peaches
I'm currently experimenting with creatine. The only way to make it half palatable is to mix the powder with the sticky juice from tinned peaches. The calories of the peaches is 66kcal/100gr drained. Any suggestions for the liquid? I'd guess it's about the same, or even more, but I have no idea.

Edit database entry gone?
what the heck? I can't edit database entries anymore! Searched for a specific type of sauerkraut, which was in the database a few times but always without fiber. Wanted to add fiber. Was only allowed to click that the info is correct or not correct but not add data!

Is it new that people expect the forum to read their minds?
I'm a bit desperate and wonder if this was the same some 10 years ago. People posting: How do I gain 1kg? Why is my unnamed device off? Does ABC work? Tell me low cal meals. Give me a sports programme. Nothing else. Just a short sentence. I could probably reply to 5 or so similar threats every day, and considering there…

Chicken wings: calories with or without bone
So I have a pack of chicken wings with barbecue spice (likely not an extremely calorie dense glaceing as in the US, but not sure). Calories are 188kcal per 100gr raw. Is this with or without bone? The packaging doesn't say

Testosterone and calorie needs
So here it is: my big secret. 🏳️🌈 I'm on testosterone now. I'm non-binary and I'm planning top surgery, and I want to see what T does to me and how I feel with it. Not sure I'll stay on it though. I tried to figure out what T alone means with regards to calorie expenditure, but could not find a lot of info in the…

Lets talk glycogen stores - in non-athletes/women
I'm trying to find some information on the size of glycogen stores in normal people, and here especially in women. I know that the liver can store a substantial amount of glycogen, and the muscles have a lower concentration, but of course the amount of muscles is higher than the 'amount' of liver. With this I want to know…

Scapular winging: strengthening exercise
So yeah, you probably know I had a bad shoulder accident. Things are getting better. One thing still not ok is strength around the scapular on one side: there's winging, it's a bit too far away from the spine and when lifting up the arm the shoulder still rolls a bit to the front. And that reduces strength in that arm. I…

Damn you, 2022
Just a quick note because I'm super frustrated. I really wanted to run 300km from October to end of December. Things didn't look good due to being sick a few times too often but hey, there was still a chance this might happen. Last week Monday I had a wonderful and surprisingly fast run. Thought I might get a year best and…

Wow, amazing diet cookbook! (yeah, right)
Oh dear... I just found this cookbook, promising a healthy 2-3lbs/week weightloss, without rushing it, eating 900-1500 calories per day :o

Looking for core exercises without arms and little legs
My core has lost pretty much all strength. I'm currently doing physio for my slowly healing shoulder and am not allowed yet to do things like pushups/crawls/any lift or any other weights. I just started running again and don't want to wreck my legs too much. Any ideas? So far I found: Leg raises, dead bugs (need to be…

Garmin, what did you smoke?!?
My physio gave me some rather strenuous exercises for shoulder and upper back today next to some slow lat pulldowns and rows. The most difficult for me were mountain climbers. Yeah, I am deconditioned after 8 months of doing very little. Garmin counted the whole workout as anaerobic capacity (I guess the interval nature of…

OMG, I cooked coffee for the first time in my life today!
To preface: I drink tea. I drink an awful lot of tea. And water. Coffee is yucky. And then I every now and then had a cup from a streetstall somewhere in the Balkans, or on the Arabian peninsular. And actually, it's quite nice: strong, creamy and rather rich in sediment. So today I went to a wee Turkish shop around the…

Recent odd posts
Does anyone else notice an increase in posts with helpful texts by users with names such as xdf8esdfs32s? It nearly looks like people are trying to use ChatGPT with a bot to automatically post to forums. I see the same kind of posts in other forums as well. Thoughts?
