Caffeine naps before working out
I'm on 4 hours of sleep for the third day in a row. That's three days with no exercise. So I want to get something in. I also want to sleep. Badly. I heard about coffee naps, but doubt I could wake myself up. Anyone try this? http://sleepjunkies.com/tips/the-caffeine-nap/

Eat/exercise less, eat/exercise more, or both?
I thought some stuff in these blog posts was interesting, curious to see what MFP thinks http://www.metaboliceffect.com/how-to-lose-stubborn-fat-belly-butt-hips-thighs/ http://www.metaboliceffect.com/female-belly-fat/

Iron supplements before a blood test
I have tested very low for iron in the past, and tested on the low end of normal about a year ago. I'm due for another blood test, but started taking iron supplements maybe 2 weeks ago (I was feeling a little low energy and thought iron might have something to do with it). If I get the bloodwork now, will it reflect the…

What's a great veggie main for a hot day?
Hosting vegetarians for dinner, and I have no idea how to plan the menu. Eggs and cheese are ok. I thought about a chili, but it might be hot tomorrow... Veggie burgers? Lentil salad, but maybe that's not enough? Or frittatas, maybe? But it gets hot in my place when I cook, I don't want for them to be uncomfortable while…

What do you do about that? Do you invest in a schwanky waterproof set, or just buy $10-20 earbuds every couple of months?

How many sports-related injuries do you have?
I know there are official stats for this, but I just want to take a little poll of MFPers - want a rough sense of how much hurt is normal. I'll start, with some suggested headers. Age: 39 Gender: F Injuries # of Acute injuries: 2, tendon-related (overuse) # of Chronic injuries: 5, tendon-related (overuse) Related…

App for planning for nutrition
Is there a good one? What I want to do is this: - input the foods I like and eat regularly - have the app spit out a nutritionally balanced menu based on my preferences, with suggestions for addressing missing nutrients - with several options provided, in the amounts required to meet RDA goals. Like if nuts have thing X…

Hunger
Can anyone speak to ways of controlling hunger on a keto/low carb, high fat/atkins diet? (I know these are not equivalent - any thoughts on differences, re impact on hunger?)

What exercise is this guy describing, exactly?
There's mention of a video, but no video, in this article (which I found interesting) https://www.t-nation.com/training/9-training-strategies-for-knee-pain "For true single leg work like one-leg squats and skater squats, attach one end of a band to a sturdy post (a power rack works great) and loop the other end behind your…

Bodyweight circuits vs machine cardio
Which gives you (personally) a better workout? I've been on the machines because a few joint issues have made it challenging to plan a circuit that's both safe and effective. I do individual exercises for resistance, but not with heart-rate elevating moves in between or at any speed, because I'm trying really hard to focus…

Hiya, new with some questions
I am thinking about reducing carbs because a) I want to lose fat, so must cut calories, so need a way of dealing with hunger; and b) I can't rely on working out the way I used to because I keep getting injured (got something new today). Complication: get brain fog on very limited carbs; have IBS-D. I've learned through…

Band glute bridges at home redux
Sorry, I posted about this in the General forum, more appropriate here. I want to do band glute bridges at home. Any ideas on how to anchor the bands? Here are some ideas, but I think with a strong band, having to worry about holding it with feet or hands might be counterproductive If the band maxes out at 60 lbs of…

Band glute bridges at home
What might be some ways to anchor the band, especially if your furniture is light? Not great with a fairly strong band imo: Maybe... might be hard to coordinate if you're worrying too much about your feet, thinking feet might be doing too much here - anyone try it? Or say I want to use weight plates to hold down the band -…

Need help setting calorie targets re activity using TDEE
Goal: fat loss for now (or something recompish) Stats: 39F, 138lbs, too much of it isn't muscle http://www.1percentedge.com/ifcalc/ tells me that for an August goal date for 10-lb loss of mostly fat, I should eat 1504 calories (TDEE -30%) on rest days, and 1934 (TDEE - 10%) on workout days. Those numbers are based on a…

Shoes for stationary cycling
I've just been wearing my regular gym shoes (ie huge stability shoes that I wear for most activity, with orthotics). Usually I just adjust the strap so it's a snug fit around the toe/upper foot. I've noticed a bit of pain in one foot while cycling. I know some people wear special shoes for spinning/cycling - are they…

aiming for a low bmi for joint problems
My BMI is 21.3. This is a more or less happy weight for me (would like to recomp but ok). But I have joint issues (arthritis, tendinopathy, hypermobility) and I am starting to wonder if lowering my weight further - to say 19.6 - would be worthwhile to reduce stress on joints, or whether that would be a bad idea (because…

Hunger headaches
Ok I haven't had to deal with these much at all, but I've got one now, and it's a guarantee that it'll happen if I don't eat enough (ie less than 1800-1900. Which is fine, I lose/maintain on 2000, depending on exercise). But does everyone get hunger headaches (when they don't eat enough for them)?

rancid fish oil?
I bought some fish oil a couple of months ago, still well within expiry, my fridge SHOULD be fine because everything else is ok. All of a sudden it tastes a bit bitter and leaves a bit of a burning sensation. Also, am a bit fluey, not sure if it's me (but everything else tastes ok). Is that fish oil probably rancid? Man,…

Any RNs or pharmacists on right now?
Hypothetically, how dangerous would it be for someone to take more than the max daily dose of ibuprofen for an extremely short period of time? Just for 1-2 days - e.g. 400 mg every 3-4 hours, with food. (Say the person weighs 138 lbs.)

Slow database today or just me?

Chlorine removing shampoo
Any recommendations? Looking for something cheap and easily accessible in North America that works on wavy hair that's already frizzy and dry (no colour). I've used Vitamin C crystals with water (after reading that's how Swim Spray works, albeit more elegantly), but it's a pain. Just want to wash and go. I have YET to see…

Pain in one hip when walking
What is that about? Left hip, when I extend past a certain range (about 3/4 of the way into a normal walking stride). I've only felt this very occasionally, and only while walking (not in the morning or night or at rest). Did x-rays two years ago, doc said it looked like osteoarthritis and said "take pain meds". That hip…

Idiot's guide to elimination (e.g. FODMAPs) diets?
So I'm on my own with this. Doc's unhelpful, dietitian's out for now. I was doing some reading online this week, lots of conflicting info. What's a substitute for coffee?
I have to stay away from coffee (and probably black tea, too) for a while for gut reasons. This is a huge problem because I LOVE coffee. I drink Turkish coffee (same as Greek, more or less) - i.e. the sweetest, best, yummiest coffee. I usually only have 1-2 cups a day, in the morning, and I look forward to it. I don't feel…
