I checked on the treadmill last night, and I think 2 steps every 1.5 seconds is 3.2 mph, does that sound right? (Want to walk outside.) I'm 5'7.

Many MFP users will use an application with GPS. You could drive your route and get the mileage that way.

When I want to walk briskly outdoors, I will load up an MP3 player with songs with the "beats per minute" that are at a good pace for me. Generally 3.8 MPH (about 15.75 minute miles).....BPMs are mid-130's

Here's a website that gives you music to the pace you select.......

If you have a smart phone try mapmywalk

If not go to google maps and route it that way and figure out mph with this site

A brisk walk is about 3mph for many people. Provided you start to get warm and your heart rate is elevated, speed doesn't matter so much as does time. The difference in the number of calories burned by you walking 3mph vs 3.2 or 3.4mph is not consequential, provided that you are challenging yourself. If it feels like a slow saunter, you don't appreciably warm, and your heart rate doesn't change much, you get much less benefit from the same amount of time spent walking.

Do you have a smart phone? If you have an Android or Apple phone you can use Strava or MapMy... or Endomondo or other similar apps to capture your distance; these apps will integrate with MFP and auto-upload your walking (and cycling and running and ... ) activity. Very handy.

Great suggestions, thanks! I love the music idea, except I'm slightly clutzy and in an urban environment, so like to try to stay aware of my surroundings. But I'll try it, even a low volume should be enough to suggest a speed :) I like having something to check myself against as I'm walking (vs after the fact).

But the subjective feeling of working hard might be enough, if there's no big whoop between 3.0 and 3.4. I'd like to get 1 hour in or 300 cals, whichever comes first. I'll experiment and see how far/long it takes to get those cals in.

My battery s not the best with some apps, but I'll check out those suggestions, thank you.
