What a week!
Earlier in the week I posted about my 10k, and 2nd in my age group and finishing in 56:52. Well, on Monday, I took it easy, did 4.5 miles at a leisurely 9:50 pace, and felt really good about it. Today was a whole other animal. Before my running rest day, I decided to push myself for my run, and for the FIRST TIME......I…

10k Success!!!!
Today I ran a 10k with the goal of under one hour. Last 10k I did was 75 minutes...last year...called Conquer the Hills lol. I had taken basically the entire summer off due to ALOT of positive life changes....and started about 2 weeks ago getting back into running. When this 10k came up and was incredibly in-expensive to…

Left Hip Pain?
Not sure if it's my hip, muscles, or whatever, but today I seem to be a little sore in my left hip. Did some stretching etc. I quit running over the summer for the most part (lots of life changes), and picked up again last week to train for the Flying Pig Marathon in May of 2013. I started week one with, 5 runs....3.5,…

Running and Heart Rate
I'm getting alot of different views on HR while running, and want to get some more opinions. I'm 34, male, and my resting heart rate is 66-68 bpm at the moment. When I run (even a slow jog), my Heart Rate skyrockets to between 177-190, and I'm not really pushing myself, I'm trying to go slow. I'm told that is WAAAY too…

DDP Yoga Diamond Dozen
Is it just me, or do you not work up ANY sweat with this workout? Just seemed like a little tutorial and not a workout at all.

Getting your base back and Half-marathon training
So it's been pretty much an entire summer since I've exercised regularly. I have run 3-5 miles a couple times every couple weeks or so, even did 6 miles on dirt roads two weeks ago. But I want to start training for a marathon in May starting Saturday....possibly doing a Half-Marathon in October. So what's a realistic time…

One year today!
So it's not been one year since I've been on MFP, but it has been one year since I've been trying to be fit and healthy etc.....and it's effected my life and more ways that one! I don't have pics or anything, but one day I was responding to one of my youtube videos:…

Finally broke the hour mark!
Finally....10k distance (not race), in less than one hour. Time came in at 56:58.....still had another 2.5 miles left on my run....but damn when I looked at that I was incredibly happy! I've been trying to get past the one hour mark for a while now. Now if I could only get my IT band to let me go past the 7-8 mile mark…

2012 Flying Pig Marathon Training
The Flying Pig Marathon this year will almost to the DAY mark when I started running and working out to lose weight. I'd like to run the full marathon. I did the Cincinnati Half-Marathon in October and did OKAY....not happy with my time, but I guess I finished...it was 2:13:02 or something. So my question is about A.)…

Alternate Pull-Up exercises
I'm thinking of re-starting P90X, but I don't have any of the things around my door frames to do pull-ups....I also use resistance bands rather than free weights. What alternate exercises can I do that will target what pull-ups do? Seated Rows, or something to that effect? The pull-up thing is the only thing that's really…

My racing fails today
So today I was geared up to do the Heart Mini Half-Marathon, registered over 3 months ago, got all my stuff ready, packet in hand and clothes laid out the night before etc. Race time is 7:45am. I get up without the alarm, check my phone for messages....and its off. It's ****ing OFF! I turn it on...it's 7:30am I MISSED IT!…

1/2 Marathon strategy
So I'm going to try something on Sunday when I run my 2nd Half Marathon in Cincinnati. Instead of just going and going for as long as I can before I have to take a walk break, I think I might push harder than I would for say....1 mile, then walk for :30-:45, rinse and repeat. I think the scheduled walk breaks might keep me…

Weider X-Factor:ST
My fiance got this, and I thought it was a good idea, so I picked myself up a set as well. It's at Wal-Mart for $30, you get 2 Push-Up Handles that rotate, and 12 DVD's, and one CD with the Calendar, Nutrition Guide etc to view/print. I tried to start this a couple weeks ago but got sick, so I started this again on Monday.…

Trail 1/2 Marathon Review
So today I decided to run a trail race. Originally it was supposed to be 6 miles, but they had the option for a 12 mile. I opted for the 12 mile...because I'm stupid LOL. However the course was so poorly marked almost everyone seemed to get turned around, and the total miles ran was almost EXACTLY 13.1 miles. This was BY…

Top of foot pain
Just a quick question on what this could be. Lately, the top of my foot (left) has a pretty strong ache to it. It's not when I bend it to walk, but if I curl my toes, or lift it off the floor when I'm sitting, like, lift the ball of my foot so my heel is on the ground. So it doesn't really bother me to run. And I also…

What do YOU listen to?
I know some people don't listen to anything, but I HAVE to. I've found that listening to Audio Dramas, or Audio Books seem to really help. Unfortunately, my favorite thing to listen to, ESPNs' Pardon the Interruption podcast, is only about 22 minutes long. Better than music for me because it just takes my mind off of…

Skyrim Dual Wield Spell FTW
Just got the perk to give me a better damage with Dual Wield Spells, plus a +25% damage increase with Flame spells....my novice Firebolt spell now takes some things down in one hit....NICE!!! Once they get close enough I whip out m Orcish mace and just clobber them to death if they aren't dead yet. I'm hoping this helps…

Death in Running
I've been meaning to post this, but keep forgetting. I seem to be doomed to cause a path of death and destruction when I run. Not every run, but every other month it seems. Last month I'm running along with the stroller...hitting my stride, got my music playing through the speakers, feeling GREAT! All of a sudden I hear…

What are you reading for Halloween?
I've got my list (as soon as I finish up the current book) Harvest Home by Thomas Tyron Midnight Movie by Tobe Hooper Endurance by Jack Kilborn The 13th by John Everson That should put me in the home stretch of my 100 books in 2011 challenge, with about 6-8 books left for the year. If you want to check out my readings for…

Running is a pain in the butt!! Literally.
Okay, so here's the problem. Over the past few runs (2 with a stroller and 40lb kid, 1 without), I've noticed after about 4 miles a bit of discomfort coming from my left buttock (yes keeping it technical so not to drive it somewhere else). Now I've done research on Sciatic Nerve, and Piriformis, which is what ALL searches…

Can't believe I'm even thinking this.....
I'm running my fist Half-Marathon on October 22nd....really damn excited about it. My training is going much much MUCH better than expected. I've been running since May....started at like a 13 minute mile when I was 220lbs of pure lard. When I learned to find my stride and could run for 5 miles without stopping, I got to…

Glenwood Gardens 3.6mi Night Race Review (PR!!)
Last night I decided to go ahead and so this Night/Trail Race. I was on the fence because I was worried about getting hurt on a trail race before my Half-Marathon next month, but the bug got me and I did it anyway. It was a mixture of concrete and crushed gravel so it wasn't too bad. I got there at about 8:15pm, registered…

Couch to Half-marathon!
It's getting closer!! Cincinnati Half Marathon is October 22nd. I started running in the 3rd week of May. I was 220lbs, and was running/walking at a 1minute run/1 minute walk pace. Slowly increasing that. My total time was like a 13-15 minute mile. Then all of a sudden in July something just snapped, and I stopped…

Resistance Bands
Okay, this is going to sound like a huge ad, but it's really just saying that I LOVE these bands! I bought my set from this guy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250769923060&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123#ht_8063wt_1396 Only $10, and they are super well made!! I combined the two highest resistance bands…

Where do you belong?
So was talking with some MFP friends about where they feel they belong...I thought I would love to be on the coast. I feel best there. But the problem is that they pay in Sunshine and Lillipops and Rainbows up the *kitten*! Where do you belong?
