Lunch help for on the road, pitas, etc
Hi all. I am looking for something different to eat. I have been changing my eating habits for around a year or so now. I drive bus for a living and have a short time at my destination for an early lunch break, usually not much time to eat. I tried different pita recipes and they got to the point I wasn't looking forward…

Screwy cholesterol
Just had my physical yesterday. Through the miracle of electronics, I have already seen my lipid profile. Doc got on my case last July (2011) when my LDL was 145. He said to lower my cholesterol intake and come back in 6 months. (HDL was 37) So last December I went back for a recheck, after making several changes and…

Update on me
I haven't posted for awhile. I have to try to be more healthy, my doc says my cholesterol is too high, so lose the fat and lower the cholesterol or take pills for the cholesterol, so I am trying to do the right thing. So far so good. I started out at 234 and am, at last check, down to 222lb, in about a month or two. Here…

Possibly NO cholesterol in chicken???
I contacted a food chain regarding nutrition of a salad they sell. In the nutrition info online they were listing individual items on the salad with the seperate info on each item. On the chicken they were listing "0" cholesterol. I contact the company and they were nice enough to reply that they checked with their…

"Taste of" type event
My wife really wants me to take her to "Taste of Madison" tomorrow. I had considered skipping it this year due to my new outlook on diet, but she really wants to go, we've gone every year for years. Any really quick wisdom, for a guy who is really a newbie at watching my diet, on things to definitely avoid or try? If…

Advice on Mayo: substitute or not?
On my diet, I have only been bringing veggies with me to work (I work "on the go" and have a short break where I can grab a bite). I really want to start doing something different, along with some veggies, so I am looking at a few different recipes for pita pockets, I think I'd like to try making those. So I have a couple…

Stuff still in the fridge, etc when starting to diet
I still have a few things in the fridge, for example a package of brats (bratwurst) that I haven't grilled yet. I just hate to waste the food, do I grill it then just eat smaller healthy portions (if that's possible, 350 cals each and about 80mg cholesterol, which is what I really need to avoid). Do I just toss it and say…

My fish supper
How does this sound, served 2, my wife and I: Boiled fish (can't remember what kind, possibly Pollak, some "white" fish. Added a jar of small pearl onions and a can of small potatoes. Used salt when boiling and also added some spices to it. Was delish.

Salty snack
I love crunchy/salty snacks. Here is something I came up with and wondering if anyone has any comments about it. I used to make up my own sort of a mix using nuts and fruit like dried fruit (mostly cranberries or cherries) and maybe add some chocolate chips to it. Not good, but I suppose better than a bowl of ice cream or…

Subway w/white egg
Subway has the "white egg" option here, which I am sure is a lot better than the whole egg (I should point out here that I have a cholesterol problem), but I can't find any info on the white egg on the Subway website, or elsewhere on the net either. Just wondering if any one has stumbled on info. I could maybe try doing…

New guy here
Had a physical last week and the doc said either I lower my cholesterol by losing weight and eating right, or cholesterol meds. LDL over 150, so not through the roof but said it has to come down. Everything else is pretty well, but the hdl is too low and said that needs exercise to go up. My wife and I do walk when we can.…
