Oh my goodness, someone in MFP has let me in after days of trying. There IS a Santa Claus Annsie baby!
So the burning question is: is my iPad really on the blink? I tried ordering groceries yesterday and it worked which surprised me no end but I didn't expect to get back on MFP AND with my usual password. I don't regret forking out my hard earned pension however for a new laptop because this iPad has really been a great little tool and was free and second hand when she came to live with me. She and I are both looking our age! I shall keep her and not throw her on the scrap heap with Harry's junk! However, I'm not counting my chickens before they are hatched so if I suddenly disappear, iPads expired and not me!
Of course now I'm back I'm lost for words to type. This is a first!
I can only say I did manage to read you all, enjoyed your photos, glad to see Jeri is back and of course BOBs jokes. Liked the hammer joke Bob even if sorta cruel. JACKIES on her way to a cozy home, Damon, PATSYs son and heir is back at work, LINS growing blue tomatoes and lots of other things and SANDY is galloping off around zoos etc. What a busy bunch of Sneakers!
I watched Braveheart on Netflix and was very glad my ancestors on both parents side left Scotland for Yorkshire. I'm amazed I have ancestors after all the battleaxe wielding etc because I don't think the G clan side was very brave being blacksmiths apparently MAKING the battleaxes etc for others to wield. More prudent wouldn't you say.
Well I've gabbed on enough. Off to make a coffee to recover from the shock.

Quick hello before I continue making Katie’s chicken and carrot rations. We have a breezy, showery day today. It has warmed up and will steadily warm up toward Memorial Day. It is to be a scorcher then. I will be having every fan we own going full blast.
Very odd about MFP. Yesterday I was completely locked out. I was worried we were to be back to email and cc everyone. A bit unwieldy, to be sure. Thank goodness for the return of the usual way of communication.
Damon and crew are hard at work scrubbing down his dear sailboat, new canvases, new batteries and she is getting her bottom “patted down.” Sailboats require constant maintenance. If you don’t, life can get very unpleasant when you are on a sail in rough water. That is my worry when Damon takes off across the Columbia Bar. It is nick named by the coast guard as “the grave yard of the Pacific.”
Everyone in our family is pressing John and me to get back to our creative projects and HIRE someone to care for the yard etc. have you heard me whine about this every other day? Damon is getting very vocal about this. It appears we have let go of the virus worries and moved on to other concerns.
Prices are not inching up....they are leaping up in great bounds. Wow! Can you believe what is happening to grocery prices? Thankfully we are doing just fine, but I wonder about those living on very small pensions and SS. There was a line at the food bank as we drove by. I was shocked to see it. Gasoline is priced like liquid gold, even at Costco. Locally the merchants depend on tourists and they are concerned that folks will not travel. But folks are ready to get out and about!
We carry a mask in my purse and in the car. Will this ever change?

Good afternoon. This morning was overcast and rainy. Right now the sun is out and it is cooler than yesterday. Overnight lows expected in the 40’s the next several nights.
I had my usual Thursday morning conversation with my friend. She said her doctor signed off on her recovery from the broken femur at an appointment earlier this week. She sounded a bit down on her inability to give up the walker. She seems to be resigned to the situation though. I was a bit alarmed to hear all of her sons will be on vacation in various places and out of town over the long holiday weekend. She said she will be alone. Then quickly said she will be okay. I am not so certain. I can’t remember a time when she had multiple days with no assistance. Yes, I am a worrier.
I also played with my plants this morning. Animal repellent, blossom set, rearranged containers so all would get enough light and air circulation. I have been assembling pinwheels to put in a few of the containers to discourage beasties! They don’t seem too sturdy so I am not certain how long they will last.
I am not certain how bills accumulate but yes, they have done that again and I am paying some online and writing checks for the rest.
I also tried to put in an order with Walmart and it is too close to the holiday apparently, I got a Sunday time slot. I may cancel it and try next week after the holiday. I need to pickup my new glasses next week as well and will be out that way.
Patsy, your son must love that boat to see to such great care and maintenance for it. There are always points of contention within families. It sounds as if the intent is for you and John to spend your time with the things that mean a lot to you rather than having to tackle nothing but chores and maintenance. I understand that. I guess it sort of depends on whether the chores and maintenance bring a sense of contentment. That is entirely possible I believe. And yes, prices are leaping along! Yipes. I don’t know what will change. I have every intent on having a mask available for a long while.
Anne, you are back! Lovely. I will take a few lines or a few paragraphs. So Harry and family are gone again. I guess they had better find a new place to live with the house sold and the closing coming up relatively soon no doubt.
Jackie, lovely walk and wow, better weather. Excellent. I do hope your contractor works on Saturday because this really needs to be wrapped up.
Sandy, on the run again. I hope you get your items from Target. Do you shop in store or get curbside pickup? I also hope the weather cooperates for the upcoming movie night.
Bob, what did Jean decide you should do? I saw another picture of the surviving Monkees, then and now. I like it better without the deceased members included.

My good news was I'm back on MFP. My bad news is the vacuum cleaner has given up the ghost. Dead as a coffin nail and I've been paddling indoors from a water pipe leak in the kitchen sink. Inside Cupboard and kitchen floor flooded, or was. I've mopped up and have buckets under everything just in case although I'll use a big bowl to wash veggies etc and will try out the ancient dish washer until Mark can get over. Excuse me girls and boy but.....AAAAAAGH !!!!!!!!!
Thought. Seeing we are all having problems with wonky appliances, old houses to maintain, food prices soaring, maybe we should sell up and jointly move to a big house somewhere with pets in tow (Hawaii?) share resources but have our own apartments. Sort of our own private retirement home. Dream on,

I had intended to check back yesterday evening but by the time I had eaten then noticed a tv documentary I wanted to watch my day had disappeared. It’s one of those fine drizzle days when you don’t realise how soaked you’re getting. The builders are back but here’s my gripe, they arrive in their van around 8.45 but instead of coming into the property and getting on they sit until exactly 9am! By 1030 they are ready for their next break while I find myself becoming even more irritable. Don’t they want to finish and get to their next job? 😠
I’ve walked the pooches to the local quoit and back and checked everything in greenhouse and henhouse are ok and am hoping the drizzle will fade away so I can do some gardening. Thankfully last night around 10pm I remembered I hadn’t placed any slug pellets in the sweet pea pot I’d put

Sympathies sent JACKIE! A malignant spirit seems to be lingering over us AND it's so wet and rainy here today we could actually see a snow flake. I join you in a long AAAAAAGH as I take the washing up bowl that now (hopefully) temporary lives in the sink to the bathroom to pour down the toilet. I had so many things go wrong yesterday MFP was the only bright spot when I suddenly got in!
Whatever happened to sitting in a rocker with our knitting?

Things don't change in the UK! When we started our extension in Derbyshire we ordered red bricks to match the rest of the house. When we got home one memorable day we were confronted by yellow delivered bricks which the building boys had started to use. My ex was not the sweetest tempered man in the world and he promptly went berserk at which point all work ceased until the yellow bricks went back and the red bricks arrived. And yes, everything stopped at 10am and 3pm for copious mugs of tea. Now I can't fault their work but it did take forever. It was to be our forever home but just as things got liveable I never got to enjoy because our world suddenly changed and six months later we arrived in Canada.

Happy Friday!
Cold and miserable, I also have my heat on. My son and DIL arrive later this afternoon and I decided to cook instead of going out for dinner in this weather. It is bad enough I have to run to Target for some last minutes items. Bryanna will join us and then play some games.
The kiddos enjoyed their visit at grandma's house even though it always looks like a tornado went through it. Bryanna straightened everything up and vacuumed when they left so all is good. BTW, the ribs were delicious.
Anne and Jackie, I think whenever there is any sort of remodeling or work to be done it takes forever. In the house we remodeled the entire house because our Old English Sheepdogs ate most of the old house like the cabinets, wall to wall carpets and even pulled down the drapes. I was quite happy as the house was still in the 50's during the 70's. Anyway it took forever but was worth the wait as it will be with Jackie. Still waiting for answer about the loo. lol
Lin, I was going to order curbside from Target but since they don't do refrigerated stuff curbside or pickup I cancelled my order and will go into the store to get what I need. It is not as crowded as Walmart and everyone is still wearing masks. I am getting used to being safe as I am vaccinated and things are really opening up in Illinois.
Now if only the weather co-operated for the pool, I would try to get there sometime this week when it shouldn't be crowded. One day at a time.
I am doing laundry and still have to eat and get to Target before my guests arrive. A friend and her husband just stopped by to deliver me a shirt made by her niece. It is very cute and says gambling ladies with the four symbols of cards under that name. Perfect for our casino trip in June. Have a great day.

One more time on nothing more than the subject of the loo for Sandy, made easier with illustrations, not descriptions. The old bedroom cupboard contained this hot water system.
It’s being upgraded with an electric heater so there’s room for the loo.
My shower room is downstairs in the converted piggery which is fine at the moment but as I get older it should be easier not to have to go downstairs in the middle of the night if you get my drift!
The builder is insisting on working tomorrow so I can only imagine a new customer is hassling him or he wants to be home to watch up and coming football European championship! That’s fine by me!
This is where we are at.... hard to believe but almost finished!
Lin, did you run a market garden and sell flowers and veggies or was that all for the family? Amazing whichever.
Snowing on Mike Anne; good grief! Wasn’t it only last week your air conditioning was installed? We’ve been told to blame Greenland for our weather!!

While mall walking this morning I cruised thru Nordstrom…. 25% off items already on clearance… great deal! $69.00 jacket on clearance for $11.99 and then 25% off = $8.99 Final cost.
Can’t seem to ditch Catholic habits – it’s Friday and so lunch was: Baked fresh haddock fillet Wild-Iceland, Fresh wild shrimp (USA), Garlic & Herbs Riced Cauliflower, lemon.
It’s a cold and rainy day…glad we soaked up the sun when we could. Fingers crossed for Monday, as one of our nephews has an annual cookout (obviously didn’t happen last year).
Anne – Welcome back from MFP purgatory. Keeping your old iPad sounds like me…if something only works “sometimes” I might replace, but keep the other as an emergency arises. I have my old food scale in my closet – just in case. LOL
Love and own the Braveheart movie. People would never figure me out looking at the DVD’ s I own – Gladiator, Lonesome Dove, 300, Roman Holiday, Sabrina, 5 Martin Scorsese movies, GWTW, Nights in Rodanthe, Safe House, John Adams, Yankee Doodle Dandy, Willy Wonka (orig) the list goes on.
Patsy – WE have your rain – but not the warmth. You had me at “sailboat.” Love being on any kind of boat in all types of water…. You’re right on prices rising fast and given budget proposal etc. I assume more inflation ahead. We have been spending far too much and printing $ too much. I guess they figure if they don’t run out of ink there isn’t a problem. LOL
For the most part around here re: masks every business promotes distancing, many recommend a mask but don’t insist and then a smaller number still “require”… seems to change a lot. Again, I am all for personal choice as an individual or business. I have enough trouble monitoring me. LOL.
Lin – Of course the pinwheels were the first thing I spotted. Yes, those nasty bills just don’t go away. I only write about 12 checks a year and the rest is online. Jean writes a little more than me. My BFF of about 60 years & his wife still write all checks.
I like the “living” Monkees you posted – makes more sense when making a comparison. Jean decided on a country ride and a lite lunch in Baldwinsville, NY at the “B'ville Diner” that has been around since the 1930’s. We took a selfie!
Jean just buzzed and said we still needed to see last week’s Blacklist that didn’t record because of a baseball game…so I guess that is my plan for the next hour.

We are told it's the jet stream Jackie and for you the Gulf Stream changing course.
I find it easier imagining my old Derbyshire airing cupboard (size of a pantry) with the shelves taken out, the water heater taken out and a new lavvy (or loo or toilet) put in than the diagram!!! Hope Dave knows what he's doing ! Wouldn't a "thunder" bowl under the bed have been easier as in days of old!
The snow didn't visit us near the balmy shore of Lake Ontario but it's darn cold and my heating is still blasting away. Bean thinks it's winter time again and so do I! I'm in my winter woollies after tee shirts all last week.
Your photos of the market garden looked exactly like my Dads allotment plot LIN. There was great competition amongst all the old gents in wartime Britain. One old lad won all the competitions at the local flower and vegetable shows with his enormous Brussels sprouts. No one could beat him until on his death bed he confided his secret - it was him and the missus and a bucket. Think of Jackie's conversion and use your imagination on that one !

Good afternoon. Wow, what a cold, windy day! The furnace has been running but it has still been sort of cold so I turned it up some more. And my containers of sweet potatoes on the deck are wilting. Just too cold for them. I have my doubts about their survival. Everything else seems to be hanging in there but it will be colder overnight. Crazy!
Did a bit of laundry. Still catching up a bit at a time. And cleaned some vegetables.
I contacted the handyman and he is to stop by later today to help with a tiny task. 🤞🏻 I also hunted online fo a product I have used for years that is now unavailable on Amazon and at Ulta. Finally located some and placed an order which should arrive before the middle of June.
Jackie, good plan indeed. Having bathroom facilities on both levels of your home is essential (as far as I am concerned). I am glad the guys are going to continue to work and I would imagine people at the next job are getting darn tired of waiting. They must have disgruntled people surrounding them! The plaster is looking very good by the way.
The big gardens on the farm were due to a number of reasons one being the back to the land movement. It was my job to preserve food for the year. I froze corn, peas, peppers, strawberries, red raspberries, rhubarb, and green beans which I put through a French cutter first. I canned tomatoes and tomato sauce. I dried herbs, kept potatoes and winter squash in the cooler part of the basement. Carrots were kept in the refrigerator or in buckets of moist sand. Hung onions and garlic. I made jam and jelly as I had fruit to make things. I dried apple rings, canned applesauce. I raised popcorn some years. If there was extra broccoli and cauliflower, I froze that as well. I shared produce with my Grandmother and my parents. The Iris were just a horrible addiction of mine. I raised them because I loved them.
So no, I made no money from the garden. I made a lot of things, homemade yogurt, baked bread, made homemade gifts. It was just the way we lived.
Anne, no, no, no! Snow?!?!?! Argh. Not acceptable when we are nearly to June. I think we are to see warmer temperatures next week. I cannot wait! I hope you are getting along well and that nothing else has broken.

Sunny intervals, a gentle breeze and 18c which is perfect weather for walking and gardening. You’re right Anne, the Gulf Stream went AWOL for far too long but seems to be fighting back! As for the new loo saga, it has crossed my mind it would have been a lot cheaper to purchase a commode on wheels and follow the Tudors and their way of disposal. As it is, a machinator has been bought to deal with that. Patsy’s Damon will know all about them being a keen sailor!
I took George and Betty for an early stroll on the moors before the crowds arrived. It’s our Spring bank holiday weekend and hundreds of thousands of visitors on their way to the county. Great for businesses and I don’t blame anyone wanting to escape city life but I do my best to avoid them! This was the only person I saw during our walk!
Dave and Joe were already working when I got home and I’m sure you hit the nail on the head Lin, the next customer is giving them grief, either that or it was my mention of my 6’5” brother waiting to visit!
I adore that cheerful teapot Lin; a big WOW! As for your skills growing and preserving so much produce off your own land, I’m incredibly impressed so another big WOW!
I’m continuing to clear long grass and weeds after a month of torrential rain.

Happy Saturday! John and Laurie went to return a blouse she bought last time here and out to lunch. I passed as I am trying to catch up on computer. We had dinner with Bryanna last night at PF Changs and then came home to play Settlers of Catan which Laurie won but I was a close second. Too cold for pool at 54F so just chilling out and will be making a pork roast for dinner.
Our meeting place is opening up for my meetings on Thursday but not sure I am ready to be indoors with 15-20 people. I might try it once just to see how it goes but then again after a long holiday weekend it might not be a good idea. If the girl who runs our zoom meetings is still going to have a zoom meeting I might just do that, but the elderly lady who is anxious to see everyone might want to go and I usually pick her up and take her home.
Decisions, decisions.
Jackie, thank you for the explanation and blueprint of what you are doing. I didn't realize you didn't have a "loo" on the second floor, which is certainly more convenient than running up and down stairs in the middle of the night.
Happy you finally got some decent weather while ours is going backwards. Is your brother really coming to visit?
Lin, WOW, is right. Were you a young girl when you had to do all that work? It sounds incredibly hard to me but I am not a gardener. No wonder you know so much about plants and veggies, you are very talented.

Mark, recovered from Thursdays jab came over. He
Repaired my sink
Put a new fluorescent tube in the bathroom,
Took my Dyson to bits and announced it's a no more Dyson, dead.
Flicked a swiffer duster over the upper walls,
Washed the bathroom mirror. ,
Set the oven for automatic cleaning,
And mowed two lawns.
He then suggested I think of a weekly cleaning lady but only if I feel ready for one!
I'm sat here exhausted after watching him!
And - I feel like Patsys John, not really ready for a cleaning lady! But I know my eyes aren't so good so maybe I am ready because everything looked okay to me before Mark arrived.
I shall have to think about this. As Mark pointed out, with less housework I'd have more time to pursue the things I love to do.

Hello dear ones! We have a very warm sunny weekend predicted. I am awash in the after cleanup from Damon’s visit. The usual....dog hair, towels, sheets, a brief clean on his bathroom. Nothing too demanding but it needs to be done. Damon left this morning after his return visit. He will be working on the boat non-stop for a month. He must sandwich in a couple of T.V commercials but he said they were not too demandingly hard. His boat named Getana, is a 42 ft. Catalina. She cuts through the water like “a hot knife through butter.” The crew is getting set for a major cleaning job during the haul out. Because he sails in both fresh water and sea, who knows what is clinging onto the sides.
I guess we are currently stuck with doing house and yard work ourselves. The few people who still do this are booked solid. So Damon suggests we think of this as some sort of weird fitness program. And in truth it is. For us, it is! As times goes on, I am sure we will find some help somewhere. But as of today, I think we can handle things.
I will try once again to post some of the photos but for some reason they will not post. We did everything from looking at old photos to cooking, and first aid for my foot. I promised John and Damon to return to my full 30-45 minutes of exercise, at least 5 times a week. A schedule I have followed until recently. Baaaaaaad Patsy!

Anne, seems to me we sneakers struggle to give up any aspect of independence. Early on during this renovation I thought 100% I would need a regular cleaning lady because I was so stressed about cement dust settling on everything, and I mean everything! I did ask my neighbours to check if their cleaner would be interested and she offered to “help” me so immediately I questioned in a rather harrumph way, do I really need help? I’ve come to the conclusion I don’t although there go my neighbours, 20 years younger thinking it’s a great idea for them! Go with what you feel comfortable with is my only advice!
As for any Dyson replacement I highly recommend the upright shark Rocket that was suggested to me a few years ago by several sneakers. The best vacuum cleaner I ever owned and certainly cheaper than Dyson!
Sandy, my 2 brothers, both 6’5”, separately suggested early last year they wanted to visit but then lockdown occurred. My older brother John lives a couple of hundred miles away on the other side of London and Bernie lives in Spain that still has restrictions but hopefully we can arrange something once my home is mine again. I only make comfortable decisions about gatherings or meeting friends and don’t feel I have to justify them after more than a year locked away! Don’t feel pressured sweetheart!
Our beautiful weather continues so windows and doors open after 7.30pm. So different to a few days ago!
Washing up and then a possible early night so I can be out at the crack of dawn with the pooches.

Good afternoon. I covered all my plants overnight and secured the coverings with C-clamps to the deck railing. That worked quite well. I just don’t have many clamps that are large enough. Anyway, I got everything uncovered this morning and hung up the coverings as they were quite damp but the plants all looked pretty good. I think some of them need a bit of plant food as we had so much rain I believe the nutrients were all washed out of the soil.
Okay, just took a break and provided a few of the plants a big of diluted liquid fertilizer.
Jackie, the contractors are working today, and they started early, on that townhouse that needed major repairs after the car plowed into it. I don’t know if they have a deadline, but they are working hard today. Lots of noise coming my way and the neighbor’s dog periodically barks and barks. Anyway, I am sure she would like her house back. She moved out for the repairs.
I hope you get rested and are up early, in good weather, going for a walk tomorrow. I watched some of Max in the Lake District today and the weather there was pleasant. He said tomorrow is forecast to be good with plans for a sunset walk in the works. I love today’s photo.
It is quiet here today. My only phone call today has been the robo extended car warranty people. 🤣😂
I did have a nice conversation last evening with a friend and we talked about her garden. She has loads of flowers, perennials, and has limited space for vegetables and annuals. She had shopped for plants at a nursery mid-week and she is afraid she bought too much for the space she has left. Well, that would be normal. Gardeners, always picking up another plant. Or more seed. She wanted to get more of her spring work accomplished on her perennial flower beds before putting in her new plants. I say if you have space and good weather—plant!
Anne, I don’t know what to say. It would be pleasant to have someone do the routine cleaning. Your choice. Lots to think about. I am glad that a number of things were fixed around your house today. Wahoo! Now to find a new vacuum.
Patsy, if I could get help on outside work and gardening, I would do that in a heartbeat. It is difficult to get help though. Try to take care of yourselves as you work through your many outdoor projects. Best wishes on the regular exercises. The Facebook page for my hometown has several posts added or revised in the last several days. They contain pictures (if available) and stories of each individual from our town who died while in the service of the U.S. Some compelling stories. One story made me quite sad, a WW II serviceman who was captured by Japan in the Pacific and was put on a prison ship. There is so much I do not know.
Sandy, many things are opening up here as well. A number of libraries and city buildings are opening. I do know that many library programs are being shifted to in person programming only. I am sorry about that. I have enjoyed listening in on Zoom. And I don’t want to go to any programs in crowded rooms. Think it over and I am sure you will do what is right for you as long as you look after yourself. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

MFP is messing with me on a consistent basis. I will refresh the page but from time to time, there will be new posts that do not show up. The next day I will come back and see there were indeed posts before mine that I did not get. So I am a day behind with some of you. Sorry.
