It's been a busy day here in Cairo for me. I started out the day great with a walk run on the track for about an hour then got a call from A gal from church ( who is from the Philippines), that has been looking for a job for over a month. NO luck. She has been living with a room mate also from the Philippines and has not paid rent so the room mate kicked her out. So I helped her move all the stuff to another members house while they try to get her a ticket to return back to the Philippines. She doesn't want to go but has NO money. I feel sorry for people that get themselves into financial difficulty but they need to learn to take care of themselves too. Helping out all the time only makes them become dependent on others. This gal lost her passport, and suitcase when she arrived and claims a taxi driver ran off with her things when she got out of the taxi. ????? She has 2 children in the Philippines that are living with her mom and dad. I say go home and take care of your own kids!!! I just feel grateful I have a roof over my head and money in the bank that I have earned to keep me going in the future. Sorry to tell this sad story but that has been how I spent my day all day today. Getting her moved and going to her embassy to get her a passport and dealing with her.

I called my mom tonight and she has a bad cold. A home nurse is coming in to check on her and gave her medicine and is hoping it doesn't go down into her lungs. It is scary when she gets a cold. I'm sending good vibes to her and her health.

The pics of Robby are darling. What a cute little guy.
    Have a good day. Phyllis

Good day. Continuing saga with the laptop and this site. I just updated iTunes this morning and I couldn't get the laptop to restart properly for a long time. Sigh. Also issues with MFP.

I love the pictures of Robby! And the joke is no joke Sandy!!!

Marie, good to see you..........good luck on sorting things out. I have so much stuff on my iPad that finding something on the Kindle app can be an issue even with the ability to sort.

Patsy - I wanted to say I also think you are very talented! Art and a writer!!! Wow. Not another edition of the book but I see there are used copies out there......I hope to hunt one down.

Anne - I hope you enjoyed your day out.

Phyllis - it was good of you to help this lady all day long. We have one relatively young couple at church who seems to careen from one financial crisis to another and it just breaks your heart but I realize you cannot bail people out of everything. I am thinking of paying the little fee for their kids to go to vacation bible school though. I'm going to talk to them about it..........but I cannot help with the huge problems they have. I pray that they will find solutions.

I was gone most of the day. I attended a special event where I worked once upon a time. The retiree group was designated VIP and we had a little gathering like a cocktail party but it was morning and they had coffee and various flavors of cake balls. We mingled and then were escorted to the company auditorium with front row seating for a special program. After the program we were given a tour of the progress on the campus overhaul including one new skywalk and the remodeling of one of the buildings. It was very nice and while I was there I got reauthorized to use the wellness facilities again. Finally I stopped by the downtown library and got my card renewed. Long day, didn't make anything to eat until I got home and by then I was overly hungry and tired. Big gatherings always make me nervous and I burned off all my energy.........

Back to cleaning up my dishes. I hope this posts (come on laptop!!!). Hugs.

Hello, like LIN who had a most interesting day, my friend and I did too. We have been friends for it must be 40 years or so and after lunch we decided to try and find our other long time standing friend. The one who lost her husband Bill two years ago. She has been sort of shuttled around to various senior care homes until a place became available in her present home. Well we found her, no easy task, and although still very forgetful and looking older, she was so pleased to see us and was telling all the other seniors in immediate range, "these are my very best friends". That was so wonderful seeing her almost like her old self, for after Bill died she went into a rapid decline for quite awhile. The good news is I can now keep in touch with her again now we've found her, and if on my own with no car I can get two buses to her residence.
This evening everything seems more normal on this site as well. For two or three days I kept losing posts or things where sliding up and down at a rapid pace. MFP problems or server problems, or iPad problems? Who knows, I'm not pressing my luck so will wish you all a goodnight in THIS time zone anyway!

Good morning, and a lovely one it is in sunny Cornwall. George and I enjoyed a peaceful walk through the woods and seeing the trees bursting forth with fresh green leaves made me think I must take my camera and make another short video. Yesterday I spent time on the phone after receiving a notice from the roadside recovery company that my annual bill would be £63, far too much since I've rarely had to call them out in 30+ years. My advice to anyone these days who isn't happy with costs of any service, whether insurance, utilities or the like is get on the phone and negotiate because just the threat to leave and go elsewhere saved me nearly 50% at least for the coming year and I've told them if it goes back up next May I will look around for a better deal.

Marie ~ Take a look at this page. I love the photo and imagine myself looking just like it over a light breakfast!! LOL

    http://www.marieclaire.co.uk/blogs/suzannah-ramsdale/542291/5-2-diet-recipes-what-can-you-eat-on-the-fasting-days.html

It has links to a variety of recipe pages and books but on the whole so long as you make sure you don't upset your blood sugar levels keep to fresh and healthy foods on what they call the down day. Nearly all veggies, fish and foods like cottage cheese are light in calories and you should drink as much water as you can but do be careful sweetheart, because when I first started I did find myself feeling lightheaded at times. It seems everyone approaches it in a different way but I found it best to have 3 small meals a day rather than one large 5/600 calories, in fact I lost weight regularly on 600 calories on the down day so start that way and if you feel you can do it gradually drop to 500 although I don't think you will need to.

Sandy ~ Loved the joke and reminded me of when I had cleared my lounge area to decorate and placed all the books from the bookcase on the stairs to carry up a few at a time to the spare room each time I walked up for any reason but a few times found myself taking the books and coming straight back down, forgetting I was actually on another mission.... just laughed at myself and muttered "good exercise" as I walked back up! Gorgeous photo of Robby who seems to be growing up so fast!

Phyllis ~ My recently divorced brother became entangled with Filipino girls supposedly in dire straits and with every excuse under the sun to not be in a position to help themselves. It was obvious he was being taken for a ride but could he see it.... NO!! He's spent thousands and I think feeling a bit of a chump now because so many of these kids know exactly what they're doing and assume some kindhearted westerner will bail them out! I'm amazed the girls you mention got into Egypt in the first place but so admire you for doing what you can for them.

Lin ~ Like Phyllis you have a giving soul and I can appreciate why you'd want to help the young couple at your church because I'm always happy to be generous in what I think is the right direction but there's definitely a fine line between helping or propping up if you know what I mean. Again like Phyllis you have my admiration.

Anne ~ Perhaps some maintenance was going on to affect the MFP site. This morning I had to log in for the first time in months so something has changed... could be they had a security issue! My laptop is so sensitive when I move the cursor across the screen it seems to think I want to bring up a different page and drives me mad as I have to whiz across to the top corner to find where I was... my language gets a bit blue at times!! Talking of which the bluebells are sending up a few more little heads to bob in the sunshine but close to freezing night temperatures are keeping a lot of flowers back. There are more Wood Anemones at the moment than I've seen in years so a good climate for them at least! What a lovely story about finding your friend and I bet you'll do her a power of good mentally in just giving her your visits to look forward to, especially as she's on a bus route.

What a great bunch of old biddies we all are!!! LOL

Time for a light lunch before light housework and then..... yes, light gardening!

Happy... ummm, oh yes it's Thursday.... enjoy!

    Jackie

Morning everybody! Everything does seem back to normal again, how odd! I'm so glad your language gets a bit blue at times JACKIE, makes us seem more down to earth, us, out and up in the air waves, lot! Wood anemones, we named them wind flowers in the north and I remember them and the yellow celandines blooming amongst the bluebells! So pretty!
LIN, you ARE a kind and loving soul, but as Jackie said, be very careful love. I too have been, as Jackie put it, a bit of a chump in the past. I think if one is the sort of person who fends for oneself and doesn't expect handouts, it's very hard to tell the chaff from the wheat. I think I would offer practical help as in I'll pay you such and such to help you out IF you'll clean my windows in return etc.
You too PHYLLIS have my deep admiration. I knew a wonderful lady who died 5 years ago of LSD? Anyway she felt sorry for her neighbour who was in "dire straits", so she left this neighbour $75,000 in her will to get her out of her troubles. 5 years later the money is all gone, the neighbour is still smoking 2 packs of cigarettes a day, her car still needs servicing, she is still complaining of lack of money. Oh dear, I sound so judgmental don't I. It's just that Doris was so very frugal in her life, and all her hard earned cash now gone "up in smoke". Small poem coming up, I'm full of them!

The rain it raineth on the just,
    And on the unjust fellow.
But it raineth harder on the just,
Cos the unjusts got the justs umbrella.

Well, must do some work and get off my high horse after gadding about yesterday. The weather is just plain perfect. Buds popping overnight. Spring the sweet spring, tra la.

LIN, I've been thinking about you and the young couple with the children and needing help with their vacation bible school fee. I just wondered if your church has an emergency fund to help little kids out? After all HE said, "suffer the little children to come unto me". If not, maybe your church could consider setting up a separate fund for needy children? You know, part of the offering set aside. That means all children and their needy parents could be helped out without it falling on the shoulders of one loving person. Here I go again poking my nose in but I think if it was me I'd approach your priest/minister/pastor so no kids are ever left out.

Thanks Anne but our church is definitely church mouse poor.........we are pretty much just scraping along to pay the bills as is. The fee is not for our church's VBS but for a week long VBS at a wonderful church out my way where a number of their friends go to VBS in the summer. I'm just going to talk to them about it. If the kids could get a ride with their friends whose kids go to that VBS, it really wouldn't cost much. And it would not only give the kids a great experience, it would relieve the summer child care issue for a week.

It's laundry day here!! 4 loads---on my goodness, I never have that many. I guess I wore too many different colors/care instruction items lately.

Also have been cooking vegetables again and making lists for what I need to accomplish tomorrow. May Day---wahoo. I might even purchase a flower for myself.

    Wishing everyone well.

    Bob---beautiful breakfast.

Jackie - I was thinking of you and all the walking outdoors that you do as I detached a tick from my head last night. Icky!!! I hope you and George avoid them.......

Later---I hear the buzzer on the dryer.......off I go.

LIN, sorry, I WAS presumptuous as usual. Of course, most churches these days are church mouse poor. I should know, the ground next door to me was sold because the local church is so poor, and now instead of finches and butterflies I have a very large house looming next to my little cottage. Maybe no ticks though, on the bright side!

Hi everyone! Hope this crazy jumping text stops. I've tried to post a couple of times and lost both of the posts. There are evil Internet forces out there.

Sunny today and there is lots, of work to do outside. I will not complain about that. I am gathering bedding plants for my deck flower pots. Yeah! Snapdragons, marigolds, nastersiums, etc.

    My posts are jumping again!

    Hello Sneakers,

I had two wonderful days with my grandson, Isaac. I will post a picture, he is growing like a weed. He will be a month old
    tomorrow. He is flourishing.

We did do some yard work for two days trying to get things done for their housewarming party in May. Dave did some other
jobs too and we were tired by the time we got home, but it was a good tired. We had a lot of snuggles with Isaac in
    between.

I did get a 40 min walk in the morning before my doctor apt. this afternoon. I got some good news from the doctor
report. No more type 2 diabetes and cholesterol was good but could be a little lower. My BP was 136 over 68 for
being taken first time, not 3 times with an average like usual. So I believe the yoga is helping with that. My weight
was 3 lbs lower than my scale at home so my scale is higher than it used to be. So all in all I was a happy camper.
My hard work over the last 4 years has been working. I have a goal of 160 and still have to lose 17 lbs to get to that
goal. My first goal was 150 but I think that is a pipe dream with our lifestyle as I mentioned to the doctor. He is
just happy I am working at it.

I have not been having any problems with MFP lately and hope my picture doesn't mess things up.

Happy Thursday Afternoon!! :) Just popping in while I have a chance because I am very tired today. I am always the most tired on Thursdays because of bingo on Wednesday night. I go to bed about 45 minutes later and it makes a difference. The landscapers interrupted Robby's morning nap with their noise so he was cranky today. Bryanna came to watch him so I could go to my meeting so no afternoon nap for me. It will be an early bedtime tonight. I have read all the posts and I have no problems with MFP on either my desktop or IPad so not sure what is going on with it.
I do want to say the Issac is just beautiful and so big, he definitely reminds me of Robby. I am catching up on some bills and games so this will be short. Will post a longer post on the weekend.

    Have a good evening.

I still have a lot of catching up – but for now ---

Anne – Your post re: “MFP premium"? stuck out. It reminded me of the app “Lose it”. I started on Lose it and stopped using it after experimenting with both. MFP had a superior data base for looking up meals etc.

I’d have to assume MFP will continue to offer a “Free” basic option for the near future. Lose It has had a “premium” option for a while geared toward those looking for a more detailed breakdown of goals (not just weight).

Check out this link for an idea of what I mean:

    http://www.loseit.com/premium/

UnderArmour has gone gang-busters on earnings etc. and pd millions for MFP, so I am sure they are looking for new revenue avenues of all kinds – in addition to ads. I’d think they would be better off offering premium for say $1-2 a month with auto deduct. We all know how gung-ho people can be at the start of a diet. Oh well, I can’t believe they would eliminate the free option – without driving people like us elsewhere.

Lin – Love reading your comments on my homepage you are encouraging to many! Sorry about all the laptop problems. I hate when that stuff happens.

Sandy – Yes – grandson time was FANTASTIC! Now awaiting the arrival of #3 on or about May 11th. Told my daughter I can’t believe what great shape she is in – unlike her dad – she has always stayed fit and any weight she is carrying is all baby. Only a week ago she took the kids on a walk for autism etc. Glad you posted – I was just writing that ransom check (LOL). Robby seems to be growing by leaps and bounds already….and thanks for the God & Seniors gem – putting it on my face book :)

Patsy – So cool re: Women of the Sea. Will the next book be a children’s book?

Shirley – You watch Blue Bloods and so do we – every week. So surprised it hasn’t been cancelled. I mean – they are a family that sticks together, eats together and prays together – they didn’t even put G’pa in a nursing home. What kind of example is that setting? LOL -

The photo of Isaac came out just fine on my computer. I have been re-sizing photos to about 640x480 before posting on MFP…so far so good.

Adios for now…. Raymond "Red" Reddington (The Black List) tonight. Bob

Happy Friday! :) Waiting for Robby so just thought I would drop in and wish you a great day!!! It is going to be nice here today so I see a walk in our day. I am putting in over 5000 steps a day just watching Robby in my house so bonus steps for walking outside. I lost 1.5 pounds and am under goal weight which I have re adjusted to have room for flexibility.
They are here, have a wonderful day.

Indeed HAPPY MAYDAY! Does anybody remember those idyllic days of childhood when we all clamoured to skip around the maypole and hoped to be crowned May queen with a circlet of May (Hawthorne blossom) in our hair? Quote: "call me early mother dear for I'm to be queen of the May" sort of thing? I for one never made it, the curly, golden haired "Shirley Temples" got to be parade queen and start the local fair. Seems so long ago in this age of technology and whizzing forum posts!
Is the Hawthorne blossom (May in Yorkshire) out in Cornwall JACKIE?

It's gone 3 pm and I'm struggling to get my A... into gear today, probably the grey, dismal weather isn't helping. For all that I am now going to get on with some housework before lighting the fire but just wanted to check in first.

Sandy ~~ Congratulations on that weight loss which just shows it can be done by keeping busy. My weight is static and although I was planning a fasting day, the cold temperatures have put me off but I'm trying hard to be good!

Lin ~Ticks don't settle on me (yet!!) but my cats occasionally pick one up so I'm vigilant at the best of times. A few weeks ago big cat Boris had one on the lower lip of one eye but luckily my neighbour that he often visits noticed it and we managed to wrap him in a towel and gently unscrew it with a pair of tweezers although he didn't struggle and seemed to be aware we were trying to help him!

Anne ~No sign of the Hawthorn or May tree yet but I'm sure as soon as this cold spell moves on it will come bursting forth. A long stretch of it runs down one side of my garden and the birds love the berries.

Getting cold just sitting at my laptop so will get on with promised chores.

Happy May Day too all. I too remember those May Pole days, holding the long ribbons and going round and round. I don't think I remember anything about a Queen. We just wove a beautiful design around the May pole at school. Now as I reflect back on those days, I think of the poor teachers who had to organized all of us little stinkers and get us in the right place and going the right directions.
I went to church today and had the opportunity of teaching a lesson to the women. It turned out nice and all the preparations paid off. I always fuss and wonder if I will be able to pull it off but with divine help, all went well.

Found out that the lady I helped get all moved out, chose not to return to the Philippines, didn't take any of the advise of others who were suggesting that she go back home and get the proper visas and all to return to work here legally. Instead she took off with an Egyptian man!!! No that is only asking for trouble if you ask me. But who is asking??? I am not in her shoes , ( Thank GOODNESS) Now she keeps texting me and asking me to go with her to an agency to help her get a job and basically lie to them and tell them she is responsible and capable of holding down a job. Well personally I don't believe this to be true and I will not go that far. She needs to step up to the bat and be responsible for herself and start on a road of independence. I probably sound like a hard nose, and I will get off my soap box now and wish you all a FABULOUS Friday.

Oh and Shirley,,, I want to pinch those little cheeks of your grandson. I'll be sending some pics of my most darling of all granddaughters, ( Tee Hee) when I figure out how to get them on this lap top. Right now they are all on my phone.

BOB, have you any idea how lucky you are being a boy? You never suffered the trauma of maypole dancing and getting thrown off the troupe for being uncoordinated and going the wrong way. You never suffered the indignity of being a slightly ginger haired, lank locked, female forever destined to NEVER be the Queen of the May!
Okay, Tongue in cheek rant now over. In truth at 9 I was a bit of a tomboy, forever climbing trees or on the creek manning rafts made out of bombed - out houses front doors. The last thing I really wanted was to sit on a draughty float in a white dress on a usually chilly May morning in North Yorkshire!
Still, these customs were charming and it's a shame if they are now gone.
PHYLLIS, you are NOT a hard nose, you've had a lucky escape! No wonder a lot of women get themselves into such messes by running off to strange countries and strange men and then expecting to be bailed out!
JACKIE, lucky Boris! I have yet to encounter a tick despite a tendency to be drawn to woods as you will have noticed.
The posting is still a bit strange. It makes one quite cross eyed keeping up with the flitting up and down.
    Anne.
