I'm all better now but still haven't gone to the gym. You know how an object in motion stays in motion? An object that came to a dead stop sits on the couch. MOTIVATE ME!
Canadian I hope you are surviving your training today! Guess we won't know til afterward!
I wish someone would hit at me, is that weird? I just want to know what it's like. I think I am too old, though.0 -
Hey missy, get to the gym or we can't video your form. Good news is I might be moving to a cheaper place in over a month. Bad news is, I might have to change gyms. It's a bit out of my way now and moving to a place further away makes it harder since I'd have to drive a lot longer after midnight just to get home.
I actually wouldn't know if someone really did hit on me in person cause it's never really happened, that I'm aware of. So, you probably do and just don't know it.
Oh and yay! I'm glad you are better.0 -

i was actually referring to um, i guess boyfriends would be the word. you all probably know exactly the progression i'm talking about. me, if i'm honest . . . when i want a massage, then i want a massage, dammit. not a thinly-disguised groping session. idk if my neurology is atypical and don't really care if it is, but that one has always maddened me.

hee. know that thing about retaining water/getting a weight spike when you first start to lift? two thursdays ago my gp weighed me and i was 136 at the most. then two days after that i saw the physio, sorted my shoulder and started to lift like i meant it again.
i weigh 142 now, so that's six pounds in six workouts, basically. it's been more than a year since i weighed as much as 140, but i'm kind of pleased, in a back-to-front kind of way. i'm taking it more as a sign of 'you really are pushing your system again' than anything else. and that means my system's going to adapt, aka i'll be stronger once it has all shaken out.
plus, it doesn't hurt that the last time i weighed 140 i didn't look anywhere near as good. comparatively.

I did my first workout B yesterday and my shoulders are sooooo sore from the overhead presses! And I even took a lower weight. The next following weeks will be very interesting.0

I agree that you cannot get a good massage from your lover. It's either way too light (because you're a delicate flower?) or way too harsh (because your muscles need murdering?) and regardless of the firmness, it is often used as foreplay. So leave it to the professionals0 -
@threnjen say NO to inertia. Get in the gym and pick stuff up!0

MissHolidayGolightly wrote: »it is often used as foreplay.
yeah, this. i have just never got that . . . i guess they get it from all those letters-from-subscribers in porn magazines. every other encounter seems to start out with a backrub.
but it doesn't make sense. what a massage does is make you sleepy. if it's done right anyway. and i don't get why men don't get that. it's infuriating to have muscles that are howling for attention while whoever it is keeps heading for areas that never suffered from doms in their life. it's like being scratched exactly where you don't itch.

See I just have my husband pretty well trained. A good quality massage at night means I sleep well and I don't mind waking up 20 minutes early the next morning0 -
Hey ladies,
I've got a question about your macro's. How did you set them? I tend to eat low carb and higher in fat and protein, but how exactly do I calculate them? I've never really paid much attention to my macro's, but I've been scrolling around my food diary and because I'm glutenintolerant and therefor don't eat bread and such things, I tend to eat more proteins and fats to keep my full. So I'd like to adjust them, but don't really know how to calculate how much of what I should set.0 -
I used the macro calculator on IIFYM: http://iifym.com/iifym-calculator/ Set fat and protein then the rest is carbs. I matched the answer in grams to the percentages in MFP under custom diary settings.0
-
Awesome! Got it! Thank you!
Does it really make a difference if you hit your macro's?0 -
You should have minimums you want to hit...a minimum for protein (usually 1g per lb LBM) and a minimum for fat (I am not 100% sure on this one, but I think absolutely no less than 35g for women, or else your hormones start going wacky). Other than that, it is mostly what works for you for satiety.0
-
I wouldn't worry about hitting it perfectly every day but overall, you need to get enough protein for muscle repair. You also need carbs for energy to fuel your lifts so going too low carb might not be the best option for you. Carbs =/= gluten so you can certainly find other sources.0
-
I now have 30% carbs, 40% protein and 30% fat. Let's see how that goes?0

two days of 'training' just about did my head in. i haven't sat through a lot of training, but even so i've never seen presentation as unprofessional and disorganized as this guy. if he had handed out those survey cards at the end of it all i would have rated him 2.5 out of 10. and his crappy piece of half-assed software all of a possible 3. but captain scudge thinks it's the light of the world.
@crabada wanted to know so i'm telling her. my fundamental problem (right now) is that this tool doesn't do two things that are a) totally unremarkable to ask for, and b) insanely, impossibly time-consuming to do manually. if i'm storing my test cases in there i need it to:
- give me a way i can look at all the requirements for the project, placed in a grid which indicates the test cases associated with it. this is so we can all see our test 'coverage', and the team has been refusing to even review and sign off on my tests unless this information is handed to them. i need this forest-level view so i can keep track of this stuff myself without losing my mind.
- give me a second and separate way i can use it to see/tell the project manager what percentage of test cases are executed, passed, failed with associated defects, or blocked.
ever-changing and mindfucky selection of responses from trainer to these two really no-brainer needs, dispensed at random and in contradictory style throughout the whole thing:
- yes, of course it does that! *in the soothing sexist these poor little women, such twits kind of voice* i will show you later.
- no, it doesn't do that.
- explain to me yet again which two very simple and straightforward things you are asking me for.
- this isn't a test tool. it's a requirements management tool. what do you expect?
- your request is unreasonable/irrational/unfair/greedy. and i clearly don't know *kitten* about software qa, although i'm trying hard to pretend that i do.
- yes, it does that. this tool does whatever you need.
- what was it you needed again?
- you need a custom report
- of course we will build you your custom report. just explain yet again what you want and tech support will take care of it.
- tech support won't. our new version is gonna do allllll of this (what was it you needed again?)
- export your tests into tfs and do all your execution/metricsy work in there. that's the best advice that i have.
- look! individual tree-level view of the test cases! aren't you just awed??
i beat him into a corner that [should] at least let me go back to medusa and co, and tell them flatly 'the trainer confirmed this thing does not do the things i was asking him for.' should. because then, along came captain scudge late in the second day and set to work undermining and dismantling all that.
scudge: the traceability matrix does that.
me: and the new minion, and my old qa-savvy friend up in front who's also taken a passionate interest in all of this: no. it doesn't.
scudge: what do you mean? it [words words words words]
me, et al: no, it doesn't. it -
scudge: it does! taht's just ridiculous! he just showed us it does!
me: it. shows. you. a. partial. view. if -
scudge: eh?
all of us: she's right. *words words words*
scudge: well *twitch* i don't see how that's a problem.
trainer: if we could get back to -
scudge: you're just being difficult in my opinion.
me: i am not being difficult and now isn't the time.
scudge: yes you are! when this guy has just -
me: scudge. listen up. this matrix own't work with how you did things in our case, for two reasons. ready? reason 1. reason 2.
scudge: well, just do it with four or five individual and partial views. i odn't see the problem.
he wouldn't drop it. he just, absolutely - like the zombie shot full of regular bullets by all of us, he just kept on coming and coming and coming at the subject, over the hill. FINALLY it penetrated that he actually had to shut up and he subsided into grumbles and mutters and head-shakings. and so essentially, i will go back to 'work' after this and tell people what i have had confirmed, or try to. and he will leap into action immediately and say 'well, she says that, but i'm not convinced.' he's got absolutely no *kitten* skin in this game - it's stuff other people are asking from me and he should have no reason whatever to even open his mouth, but that won't stop him. and he will drown all other words and just continue to talk for however long it takes him to get it out of his system. which appears to be never.
i actually had a spontaneous waking fantasy later last night, of my brain saying to him: scudge. stop speaking. one more word out of you, and i quit.

Hi everyone! Haven't officially introduced myself here yet...I've just been doing random posts. I've started SL a couple of times and saw results really quickly, although I didn't stick with it. I've only restarted a couple of weeks ago and I can't believe how good I feel! Here are a few NSV's I've noticed:
- Going up stairs is easier
- I've lost a half inch off my waist
- My daughter told me my legs look more toned
- My stomach looks generally smaller (it's kind of my barometer to how things are going)
- I generally feel like a bad *kitten*
I don't lift heavy yet...DL 60#, BP 45#, OHP 45#, BR 50#, SQ 9# (I never got past 25# before)...but I look forward to slowly increasing and getting stronger.
One general question for everyone: when does the arm flab (aka chicken arms) go away?0 -
I'm late to the massage conversation, but I feel the same way as many of you. It's a job for professionals. And men who suggest I give them a back rub automatically annoy me. It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up and not in a good way. I'm not a prude (well, not really), and I don't have a touching aversion, but I just Do. Not. Like. these massage-y interactions. Maybe it's because the requests seem to come too early in the dating progression. Or maybe it's that they ask at all? If it just happened naturally, maybe that would be OK? I don't know. Anywho....
@Canadian -- How you keep yourself from punching Scudge in the face on the daily is a miracle in my book. Not because I think you're the punching type but because he's such an effing nimrod. As always, your stories make my day. Thanks for sharing.
@Ohio -- Welcome. Glad you're liking the program. Your numbers look really good for being a couple weeks in. Though I am curious why you're only squatting 9 pounds. If you can deadlift 60 lbs., this seems quite low?0 -
And men who suggest I give them a back rub
mcwhuh . . . . i've never even heard of that one. seriously? i don't do dates, hardcore. never been on a real one in my entire life (i don't count the two people who came at me out of the sun when i was 18/19, or the guy 14 years ago who thought i was hitting on him when what i was doing was following some brainless how-to-network protocol when i was out of a job). so i'm agog. i'm deploying my kid to make popcorn and i want the disclosures to start up right now. let's dissect this.I just Do. Not. Like. these massage-y interactions.
yeah; no. i don't touch strangers. i'd vote for both of your speculations. just hearing about it sounds like a kind of offhand 'how's bout you service my needs?' and that's totally off if it's coming from someone you don't have any real reason yet to help out with so much as a cup of sugar or a spare smoke.
i'm saving up on the scudge-punching thing. i told you i don't touch strangers, didn't i? and he's really strange.0 -
I'm going to go completely off topic here, but I just need to rant about this somewhere.
It has been SNOWING and SUB_ZERO (celcius) over here the past 2 days. April 24th and 25th. FFS!! Merry. Effin. Christmas everybody!
No, but SRSLY?!
I have HAD it with the cold and snow. There's this problem I have with running and the cold, where it irritates the hell out of my airways just as bad as pollen does? So yeah, no running for this gal until the sunlight comes back and we get decent temperatures for the season.
I mean, snow near may is not completely unheard of. But this winter has been brutal cold-wise. Can we not just get a break? Global "warming" my *kitten*
[/rant]0 -
We didn't get any snow this winter, as the area rarely gets snow, but I have to agree that April has been too cold. My heat keeps turning on and I don't even have it set very high, just around 60. I spend part of my time at home with my heating pads to help with the cold. I hope May is warmer.0
-
still getting intermittent cold snaps out here too. not freezing, but honestly closer than it ought to be for this time of year. still cold enough to need a real sweater and genuine gloves just to do the bike ride. and yeah; the mountains at least have had snow. it gets so you can just feel when you go outside whether you'll see snow or not if you lift up your eyes to the hills.
i didn't want to start yet another spam thread so i'm just throwing this here because really i'm not looking for any specific advice. i just want to take my own turn to rant.
i'm at my wits' end with deadlifts and only stubbornness is stopping me from saying i've had it with them. it's like when you fall out of love with someone but you still love them and the relationship's not on the rocks but it has no direction either yet you're committed to it. this makes me sad actually, because i used to like them so much.
but for months now i've had these little tweaks and twinges that probably all stem from that damned shoulder thing. they're not directly caused by deadlift and they shouldn't technically have impeded it - but they do. i use biofeedback and that kinaesthetic awareness feeling so much to get a feel for my form, and now i just can't. deadlifts used to be like being locked into a slot. i knew every fibre of how being tight and doing a good deadlift felt. you do this, it feels like this, and i swear my reps were like they were running on rails. now my whole sensory-feedback stream is full of . . . well, feedback. and i don't know which direction is up anymore. it bigtime mcsucks.0 -
It's been cooler than usual everywhere. I had to put the heat on yesterday because I was shivering in my living room. I can't believe I have a picture of my house covered in snow from a month ago and that I was at the beach last Saturday and now putting the heat on again. Hoping summer won't be balls hot but it probably will.0
-
Yeah, by middle/end of summer I'll probably be going "blah, it's too hot!" though I do have a fan now. In the past I had nothing, so that's an improvement. Not sure how the new apartment will be either but will find out. Those months at least work is well air-conditioned, office/break room too much so sometimes and worse case, I can do the "I'm going to go work on stuff in the cooler and freezer."0
-
you know what would be great? like, seriously great. i believe this is a business idea.
a laundromat with a weight room attached to it.
or a weight room with laundry facilities, if you prefer. since i started lifting i have not yet put in a laundromat session without thinking about how now would be a born-natural time to go get a nice workout in.
not to mention. by the time i do laundry, i'm always already down to the kind of clothes that would be perfectly suitable for working out.0 -
hahaha @canadianlbs That's an awesome idea!
In my city we have a cafe with laundromats. So you have like this really cozy place to have your coffee and read a book, while doing you laundry and you can iron them there too!
And keep holding on with those deadlifts. I have the same with squats. Two years ago they were my favourites. And now it feels like I have no clue how to do them properly!0 -
@canadian that's a grand idea. I know that my step brother uses my mom and stepdads laundry machines and works out in their home gym while he waits.0
-
Good idea @canadianlbs. I'll have that set up once I finally break down and get a home gym in my garage.0

i'll come right over with my sack of sweaty objects. on the other note, i watched an omar isuf clip last night about 'snap city' that made me think that perserverance and stubbornness might not be the best way to deal with my deadlift issues.

You're welcome any time. Travel might be a bit cost prohibitive though. Maybe my gym and laundry service could also be a bed & breakfast
I don't what specifically your issue is with deadlifting but I found this video helpful as it breaks down the whole movement:
