Howdy y'all. It's marvelous Monday! Need to get laundry done today. Tomorrow is a busy day, with early endocrinologist appointment and then working the middle.

Last night J pulled a repeat performance of what he did several months ago, texting me that there was some "leftover pizza in the fridge" that I could eat when I got home if I wanted. Once again, he and D went for pizza, J bought it, let D order what he wanted (thick crust) and told D to be sure to leave some for me in case I wanted it. I don't have any problem with D ordering what he wants when J treats him for pizza. It's J's treat and D SHOULD order what he wants.

All the same, the last time he did this, I know I made it perfectly clear that I don't choose to eat thick crust pizza. Additionally, I wouldn't have necessarily wanted the same toppings that D requested, and expecting me to be thrilled to have D's leftover pizza was not reasonable.

I just didn't even get into that with J this time. If J can't remember from the last time that I would prefer being asked BEFORE THEY ORDER whether I might want any pizza when I get home from work, and IF SO, WHAT KIND OF PIZZA, so he can order what I want instead of expecting me to eat something I don't want, then the heck with it. That pizza can rot if D doesn't eat the leftovers.

I know that J told D to leave some for me since D was eating KFC/Taco Bell when I got home, rather than eating more of the pizza he left. D has confirmed this, when I asked a bit ago. Maybe I'll just tell D that if this happens again, he has my express, advance permission to eat as much of that thick crust pizza as he wants, up to the whole pizza, even if J says otherwise and he can tell J I said so...to avoid any possibility of waste.

Of course I expect that J will act puzzled and possibly a little hurt as to why I didn't eat any of the pizza that he especially had made sure that D saved, just in case I wanted any...even though I told him the last time he did the exact same thing. Sigh...

Still not eating pizza that I don't want.

Update: I told D to please eat all the pizza...and gave him express permission if this should happen yet again, to remind J that I don't eat thick crust pizza and that I've already given my express, advance permission for D to eat as much of it as he wants. Maybe J will then get the clue that he should ask me if I want him to get me any, and if so, WHAT to get me...

    Hi All,
I am still around...I didn't desert you folks...unlike the official NS folks. Actually, I will deal fine with it, but I agree with Roger and Val that it is not the best decision NS folks have made, but who knows what all went into the decision.
As for where I have been...Marc and I had an excellent (okay, more than excellent!) last weekend camping and hiking in the Shenandoah National Park. What a deal. If you are at least 62 years old, you can buy a senior pass for a one-time $10 fee that gets you into all national parks, national wildlife refuges, any national outdoor place for FREE, plus half price campsites at most of them. We paid $8.50 a night to camp in the Shenandoah NP. The hiking was great, really challenging and beautiful! And, unfortunately, since then I have been incredibly busy making up for lost time (work not done while away from the computer).
As usual...it will take me a few days to catch up on the readings, but glad to see you folks still here.
    Enjoying the warm weather!

    Good Morning All!
Looks like a lovely morning here to get out and walking. Meetings during the day, but I do have time to get out for a nice, long walk before going to work, so guess where I'm heading...enjoy the day all...whoever is still around...

I got my official email from NutriSystem telling us that May 11 is the end of the boards.

    Howdy y'all. It's wonderful Wednesday!

I got my official email from NutriSystem telling us that May 11 is the end of the boards.

I have been up quite a while, cooking some black eyed peas to have with leftover pork roast from the other night, as a nice breakfast. Today I need to do big water for the indoor plants, and take a nap with Lilo. I think that's about all on the "for sure" agenda, other than putting some fifteen bean soup mix on to cook with onion and east Indian spices to make something nice for dinner, to be served with steamed basmati rice. I've never made an east Indian style dish with quite so many legumes at once (I'm not putting in the artificial ham flavoring packet) but I figure if I spice it right and don't put in enough water to make it soupy, it should be interesting and VERY nutritious. Wish me luck!

Anyway I had a little NSV moment doing that. I used to have the seat all the way down and back and when I looked at the room between me and the steering wheel I had an Ah Ha moment. I moved the seat up and forward making for a more comfortable drive.

    Nice NSV!

Howdy y'all. It's fabulous Friday! Working that long middle again today. Supposed to be sunny and HOT. Blood glucose was (as it often is) a bit on the high side when I got up so no carbs at all with breakfast.

I snagged two packages of lamb chops on the quick sale rack at work and they are now safely in my freezer for two nights when I feel like lamb chops. Yum!

    Howdy y'all. It's sensational Saturday!

I wanted to sleep in today, but Lilo had other ideas. She was tearing around the room like a wild thing, and then climbed up on the headboard to do her vulture perch. I knew it was a lost cause at that point.

I've been up for a while, getting breakfast, feeding Lilo (who hasn't touched her food as yet, don't know what her hurry was on getting me up...) and getting the dishes going. And sending a nastygram to D for smudging up the window on the door between the garage and the kitchen. He puts his forehead on the window and peers into the garage. Don't ask me why...but I've told him I keep that window clean and he needs to stop that stupid s$%^. But then last night he also left a glass on the counter by the sink, with a milk puddle in it, and a bowl and a spoon in the sink...AGAIN, and an empty butter wrapper on the stove (I think maybe he made popcorn), and the plastic dome lid from some thing he got at KFC was on the counter near the stove. All of this was also included in the nastygram. Oddly enough, the big popcorn bowl WAS in the dishwasher which begs the question on why the heck the rest of his dishes couldn't have made it there as well...

The bottle of glass cleaner is sitting in front of his computer and he's gonna d@#$ well clean that glass himself this time. This maid is taking the rest of the day off. The only reason the dishes and butter wrapper are not also in front of his computer is that the maid wanted to run the dishwasher this morning and didn't want Lilo or Ariel trying to eat the butter wrapper.

If I go missing for a year or so I'm probably in jail.

    Good Morning…its Saturday!!!!!
Oh, you knew that already??? :D

I have no idea why I'm awake at this hour on Saturday…and have already had coffee, unloaded dishwasher, and the the first load of clothes is ready for the dryer……just woke, and that's my best answer. May need afternoon nap!

Its raining. Ed, when did they change the weather forecast? Not that I mind, we needed it. (good deal on the packages of lamb chops!) That was the one advantage of working in the Starbucks kiosk in Kroger.

    TIme to think about breakfast.

    Later...

Forecast here still says only 20% for rain, but that does mean that 20% of the area is expected to actually get some rain. I guess you're in that 20%!

Even in the WooHoo (quick sale) markdown rack, lamb chops are a bit on the pricy side, but when marked down from $16 and change to $9 and change for each package, I still had to jump on it. I LOVE lamb chops. Usually all the really good stuff from the WooHoo rack is gone by the time I get off work, and I have fairly slim pickings left, so I was really happy to see those still there. Sometimes I get lucky and get off work just as they are restocking the WooHoo rack and I can grab some great bargains. I have some bottom round from a few days ago that was still left late in the day, and it's waiting for me to slow cook it to death in a nice gravy, and some lovely boneless country style pork ribs for a barbecue day, as well as two whole, all natural chickens for some nefarious purposes. I have to always remember to look in the chicken bin as the WooHoo chicken is usually not in a separate area.

Just about the only fresh meat I buy NOT on sale is when I run out of all natural, boneless, skinless chicken thighs for the sugar gliders. They get more at whatever price it's set at. My chicken is either WooHoo or purchased when it's on sale for a BOGO price, which, at Kroger, usually just means it's really half price.

Why yes, I AM a grumpybutt in the morning sometimes...

When I get up in the morning, I want to go into the kitchen, and, with a minimum of fuss and bother, prepare Lilo's food and my food and coffee or tea.

If I went to bed leaving the kitchen counters relatively clear, and the sinks clean and empty, then I have a perfectly reasonable expectation of finding them in the same condition, or at least very close to it, when I get up...which J and D do seem to be SLOWLY learning...though it still seems that 99% of the time I am picking up dishes out of the living room or office space (dishes that I didn't leave there, but J did) and finding too often that D has left stuff where it shouldn't be. Last night it turns out that J made popcorn and left the bowl, spoon and butter wrapper out. D left the glass and plastic dome thing out, and the smudge on the glass window...and D cleaned that smudge before he left the house too. :persevere:

    Good Morning Folks,
Wow, I opened up this thread today and it is ALIVE with folks. Great! For a couple of days there I felt very lonely...
Roger, thanks for the info about the shelf stable Tuscan dinner. That looks really good. I probably will wait about 3 more months to order, but hopefully they will have it still. I also just took notice of your counter...158 pounds lost. Wonderful. You must feel so good both physically and mentally.
    Val, nice icon.
    Ed, good morning to you.
So...what do you think happened to Don? Did he have trouble moving to MFP? He was here, wasn't he?
Moving on. Going for a walk before the rest of the day gets me too distracted.
Happy mother's day to anyone who celebrates.

    Howdy y'all. It's scintillating Sunday!

Working that long closing tonight, but at least Lilo let me sleep in for a change this morning. She was MORE than ready for her food though when I did get up, and got quite excited when I was preparing it for her.

And happy Mother's Day! Lilo, incidentally, is a mother, or, for the proper feline term, a queen.

To Nutrisystem boards, I guess we say:

    Hi Everyone,
I'm here, I followed Kat's fine example and checked the NS boards this morning and left one last dig at them about what a stupid move this was......we both like to have the last word apparently. So it went from cold to 80 plus degrees with humidity here yesterday. Oddly enough didn't go out on the bike, but did fire up the smoker. It felt like late July, early August all day, I slept with no covers with the window open last night while a pretty severe lightning and thunder storm was going on. Fury wasn't amused at all, she hates lightning and thunder. Still raining this morning and will likely be continuing until mid week, I'd say mowing the grass is definitely going to be on the events calendar for next weekend. So it's off to work and another week of making the doughnuts. So welcome to our new home thanks to NS's short sightedness and poor judgement.
    Have a good day all!

Howdy y'all. It's marvelous Monday. Goodbye to the boards, today, supposedly...No work today, but orchid society meeting tonight.

I set out several small loin steaks to thaw, and one fairly large whole, natural (as opposed to un-natural?) chicken to roast in a couple of days. The steaks will likely be breakfasts and lunches while waiting for the chicken to thaw.

A final(?) farewell to the boards there. :(

And yes, I did check (and post) on the NS board this morning too...

It's been a LOOOOONG time since I actually ordered.

Just browsing through the latest menu choices, the new Oatmeal Cranberry Bites look like a tasty breakfast option.

For lunch, the Arroz con Pollo looks tasty and interesting, as does the Bean Bolognese, and the Multigrain Pilaf (not listed as *NEW but I never tried that one).

For dinner, the Chicken & BBQ Beans looks interesting, and I never tried that one. The Meatballs in Marinara Sauce look great! Of course none of that stuff ever looks that good when actually prepared at home, but still it sounds tasty. I don't, of course, get to eat meatball sandwiches very often. The Sesame Ginger Chicken, Turkey Sausage & Bacon Rigatoni, and Tuscan Inspired Pasta all look worth trying.

In desserts and snacks, the Chocolate Sandwich Cookies that came and went and came back again still look good, though I never got around to trying them either. The Chocolatey Pretzel Bar and the Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies both look great. The Lemon Herb Crisps sound interesting. Milk Chocolate Flavored Pretzels and Pizza Puffs both sound delicious.

I'm actually pondering a small order just to try new (at least to me) things even though I don't actually NEED food from NS to maintain myself. There were always some favorites there too, and quite a few of them are STILL there, though I have to say that the original Zesty Herb Snack Mix was better than the one they changed to. Not a major change there, but it was not a change for the better. I always liked both of the popcorn snacks but the serving sizes were a bit disappointingly small, though they would at least last until the first commercial.

Howdy y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! Working that long middle today, but at least it is not supposed to be as hot. There is a decent chance of rain though. My outside plants will like that if it happens. My Lilium longiflorum (Easter Lily) plants are budding out so I'm looking forward to something really nice there.

I went and looked at the NS forum this morning. It's still there, but I may no longer post to the forum so I guess it's on the way out. :(

Busy last several days. And today was MY day to go hog wild! Okay, no hog was eaten, but lots of sushi (and no matter how "light" soy sauce is called lower sodium, it is NOT low sodium!), followed by a couple of English muffins with peanut butter and Light Laughing Cow cheese (separately, not together) after I got home. Oh yeah, a skinny cow, too. Can't remember what else. Sushi must drive me crazy!

    Good Morning All,
Ed, the bbq beans and chicken are ok, I agree with Roger on the meatloaf. The shelf ready Santa Fe Chicken is not bad at all. On the frozen food the new version of steak tataglia is good. I tried to get on the regualar NS boards this morning with no luck. Getting ready to go to work, have a good day all!

Howdy y'all. It's wonderful Wednesday! Need to do watering today, but that's about all. Oh, and nap with Lilo of course, and roast a whole, natural (as opposed to unnatural) chicken for dinner...and breakfast...and lunch...and dinner...and who knows how much more?

I went to see and the boards are still there on NS and I found that I could still EDIT a post but could not create a new one, so I edited my last post, just because.

I've been up for quite a while but distracted by breakfast for Lilo, breakfast for me, and reading things on FaceBook.

I never tried the NS meatloaf with the brown gravy, but then I got disenchanted with the meatloaf when they changed from having it side by side with the potatoes to slamming it on top of the potatoes with the tomato sauced meatloaf. I know that's the vogue now, to serve the meat on top of the starch, but packaging it in a separate compartment NEXT to the starch allowed the diner to make that decision (or not) themselves. It still tasted good then, and at least the sauce and meat being on top of the potatoes did mask the odd grayish color of the potatoes, but that color never bothered me as long as they tasted good, and they did so it wasn't an issue for me.

I don't mind meatloaf with a brown or mushroom gravy, but never make it that way myself as I grew up with tomato based gravy and to me meatloaf has tomato gravy. Salisbury steak has brown/mushroom/onion gravy. That's just the natural order of the universe! ;)

My biggest issue with many of the NS meals was in portion size. They tend to pack the nutrients rather more densely than (in my opinion) necessary. While many of the meals were quite delicious, a good number of them are dishes that I can make myself, with a larger (but nutritionally similar) serving, and my versions are even more delicious, as well as being fresher and containing a lot less chemical additives. I often wondered if other people who had been cooking for 45 years or so had been finding the same thing and suspect so, as many of us, even while officially ON PLAN did do a lot of "on your own" dinners and had lots of leftover dinners to share with others.

Dinner was the meal I was most likely to do "on my own" as breakfast and lunch were often at work, and there just wasn't time to prepare my own food, and I'm pleased to see that NS now offers a plan that incorporates that idea of dinner "on your own" for those of us who would likely do that regardless. Kudos to NS for THAT but BOOS for dropping the discussion threads where people could share ideas and recipes for doing that.

    Hi All,
I know...late (left for work around 6:30 this AM, so finally able to get here n ow). Tomorrow I am working from home (okay...the local library), so I get to relax for a few minutes in the AM. Just had the Santa Fe chicken tonight. I can't recall if I ever had it before. Was fine. Probably not spicy for others, but a bit much for me.
Okay...time to get moving (to bed soon!).

I roasted my whole chicken tonight, and it will definitely be on the table for quite a few more meals...I'm home alone for a while, so shouldn't have to cook much of anything as I have tons of leftovers to eat now!

I just rubbed it inside and out with a mixture of extra virgin olive oil, salt, pepper, rosemary, thyme and paprika, then roasted it until golden, tender and juicy. It came out delicious! I made a small pan of home made cornbread stuffing (a rare treat for me, and I only ate a small serving of it) and served it all with steamed green peas in a light butter sauce and made gravy from the drippings, to drizzle on the chicken and the stuffing. One glass of sauvignon blanc to wash it all down and then put all the leftovers away (no seconds!) for future meals. Frankly, I couldn't have handled seconds anyway, as I just don't EAT large meals like I used to. By the time I had some chicken, a small serving of stuffing, a decent serving of peas, and the gravy I felt quite stuffed myself.

It was all good and the leftovers should be very nice too.

Sushi can drive anyone crazy. I think the problem may be that it tends to be very high in simple carbs from all that rice, so your blood glucose spikes, but this doesn't last too long and when it crashes you want some more carbs to keep feeling that carbohydrate "high" that you got from the sushi.

    Good Morning Everyone,
Looks to be a sunny day here thankfully, I'm taking my motorcycle into the shop after work for a new set of tires and picking it up again tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will hold. I'm planning on a trip to Vermont in the next couple of weeks for a memorial service for my daughter and was thinking the motorcycle would be the cheapest/fun way to travel if the weather is cooperative, otherwise I think I'll take the Jeep and pay the extra gas for comfort. My Washington Capitals got beat in game 7 in their Stanley Cup Playoff series against the Rangers, this happens every year........I think "The curse of the Bambino" left the Red Sox and baseball and is now living with the Caps. Great series though, really excellent play off hockey. Off to the salt mines, have a good day all!

Howdy y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! Leftover chicken and fixings for breakfast. DELICIOUS! Nothing major on the agenda for today, except that Lilo will be wanting a nap with me, of course. I may find SOMETHING else to do. I've been pondering finding a relatively local winery to check out as I would like to send some local wine to a friend in Minnesota who sent me a couple of fairly expensive ones from California. I haven't tried either of them yet, but he, like me, is no wine snob at all, drinking wine for the TASTE and not for the PRICE. While he does indulge in some expensive ones, he also likes Three Buck Chuck and Bay Bridge, both of which are about the cheapest decent wines you'll find out there. At any rate, I thought some nice, local wines that he might not be able to get where he is (or in California when he goes on a wine buying trip) would be a pleasant surprise, assuming I can find any nice, local wines.
