    Good Morning Ed!
Finally about 9:15 a few medium size flakes are falling.
Cleaning day here, gym after. Followed by a nice nap. Ted and Maya have gone for a walk in the park. They have a really nice woodsy, paved 1.25 mile walk at Bethesda. I was invited, but declined. Tom wants out til he gets close to the door and realizes how cold it is. Changes his mind and is now napping on the couch! Good Kitty!!

    Enjoy your day!

Oh, got a text from Jack, Livi was on the back porch trying to catch a snowflake in her mouth. She's off for a day of Winter Guard practice. So that may well be her 'snow experience' for the day.

Also, the snow flakes are getting much bigger, and there are many more of them!
Oh Wow! 5 minutes later, and its a real snow storm. Won't last thank goodness. But its really pretty to look at from the house!

Howdy all y'all. It's sumptuous Sunday! It's cold out there, with freezing fog warnings. That always puts an odd image into my mind of solid walls of fog that a person or car could slam into! LOL.

I rather enjoyed watching our 2 inches or so of heavy, wet snow as it fell for 2 hours, accumulated, and promptly started melting. By bedtime there were only small patches of snow remaining and what is left will probably be disappearing today. It made quite the Winter wonderland for a short time.

I probably would not have enjoyed it so much if I had to get out in it, but it was nice to look at from the warm confines of our house.

Not much on the agenda for today. Maybe some laundry.

Can you find me in this picture, with my parents and 5 of my 9 siblings? I was not in need of any weight loss assistance at that age.

Howdy all y'all. It's marvelous Monday! 70% chance of p.m. rain, so if I want to go anywhere I need to get on out this morning. I don't see anything super critical on the shopping list, and am trying to keep costs down for a bit until I catch up on all the hospital bills. As expected, they are nickel and diming me. I swear, every doctor who so much as said hello to me in passing has sent a bill for $35, and then the separate bills from radiology and cardiology for the tests. I have paid several and just when I think I have seen them all, another shows up. Reconciling the bills with the insurance statements is a bit of an annoyance too, but as long as the bills are itemized and show the insurance payments and adjustments too, it can be accomplished. Sometimes I have several insurance statements that have to be all reconciled to the same, single, itemized bill.

I have one bill showing two items at $18 each, with no indication of what, if anything, the insurance paid, or even whether the insurance has been billed. I have paid one bill to that department, that had been sent through insurance, but if they think I am just blindly paying them $36 for two electrocardiagram reports without any insurance statement they can think again.

OK. I just called, and apparently something got lost in the shuffle during the transfer from one office to another. The hospital I was at had just been eaten...er I mean acquired by another hospital and somehow this particular bill didn't have my insurance information attached to it. I called the number on the bill, which just gave me a different number to call, due to the office move, and I gave them my insurance ID and they will bill it now. So I can wait far a revised bill, if any, to arrive.

Lilo has had her "horrible" and treats for this morning, and is patiently (hah!) awaiting breakfast, along with the other three.

As to the picture, my mother is 5 foot 4 and my father was 6 foot 4, so there is a bit of distance between them. The one in my mother's lap is one of my younger brothers. I am the third of the ten children.

    Hi Ed,
So, which boy are you? None of you all needed any weight loss assistance. Which was generally true of most kids from the 50's & 60's. Weights started creeping up in the 70's, and for so many kids now the weight problem is totally out of control. I was a skinny little kid, which WORRIED my parents!!! So, one of a very few trips to the Dr's. ( I broken arm in 8th grade, and one around 12yo. misdiagnosed trip for a really bad cold) He gave me ??? something to increase my appetite, and it's STILL WORKING! I was a pudge by the time I was in 3-4th grade. Ok, this is depressing...moving on......
I made it to the bank, put gas in the car, and it was light rain by the time I got to the gym. From there it was home, lunch, and nap time!! So glad I don't have to go out tonite!

I made a strange 'Kidney Bean Curry' last night. Glad its good...I ate it again tonite, and there is at least 2 more dinners of it in the refrigerator. Put it on rice, and tonite I sautéed chard to go with it. It was 'strange' cuz it called for canned kidney beans. Since I already had kidney beans cooked, I used those. Put together the curry seasonings, it all came together in about 20-25 minutes. Just in time for my rice to be ready in the IP!!

Tomorrow??? hmm. Gym. that's a given. Maybe Costco? Maybe take the car in for oil change. Really should do that for sure. Maybe do that first, Gym later, and Costco is not critical.
Will be finishing up the lunch soup, so I need to consider a new soup. Or something! Krispy Kreme???? Maybe?? LOL!

    Later...

Howdy all y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! I need to get Lilo's shot drawn up and administered, so she can get past her "horrible" and have a treat. I would like to get out for a few things, and may try around 11:00 when the rain chance is the least and it MAF be just "cloudy" for a bit. If I just go to PetSmart and Publix or Aldi, I might not get too wet.

In the picture posted the other day, I am the beanpole with the Dumbo ears on the far right.

I installed a camera in the window by the front door yesterday, and set up the monitoring to watch for motion. I found this scary video this morning. Meet Orion, the spook! You may have to click on the picture to activate it. Orion must have heard something outside and poked through the curtain to investigate.

Well, I did get out for a bit, and picked up the most needed groceries.

I also got a little more food for Lilo.

    Today is Lilo's 17th birthday!

Oh, and I think in other pet news, you might like to know that Remus Crabbypants and Clyde are now cohabiting and seem to be fine with it. Right at first, Remus acted as if he was still a baby and Clyde was his daddy, climbing on Clyde's back to ride around. And Clyde let him! He doesn't do it now, so I guess they have worked something out between them.

Howdy all y'all. It's wonderful Wednesday! It is supposed to be warm today with 30% chance of p.m. showers. I don't think I need to go anywhere, but I do need to get to that laundry.

For Lilo's special birthday treat yesterday, I made tuna casserole.

She didn't get the casserole, but she did get the "tuna juice" (the water from the can) that she graciously shared with Kiara. She loves tuna but doesn't need the extra protein, so I let her have the water and she is happy. When she was younger, I would let her have a bit of the tuna before it all went into the casserole.

I used Barilla Red Lentil Rotini in this casserole. I can definitely taste the lentil when I use this kind of pasta, or their Chickpea Rotini, in which I can taste the chickpea, but using it in the tuna casserole helped to mask that flavor somewhat, and the extra cooking time, in the sauce, helped with the slightly odd texture of the cooked pasta.

Using that pasta does take some getting used to, and spending that much on it does too, but it adds protein and reduces the simple carbohydrates in the casserole, so it doesn't spike my blood glucose so badly. The extra fiber also helps me to feel full without eating too much of the casserole.

Well, this mug of tea is empty. Time to pour another.

    Good Morning Ed!
So much catching up to do. I apparently 'missed' yesterday..pretty much all around. I did get to the gym. Period. I came directly home, ate the last ot the potato leek soup, crashed, ate dinner, watched 2/3rds of the Philly vs Islanders hockey game, folded and put away my clothes and went back to bed!!! Sooooo, I am 'behind before I even start today'!

Belated happy birthday to Lilo! Grand ole age she is!

You did not have 'dumbo' ears ED! What a thing to say. You did have your Daddy's ears, and looks, but I think your Mom's eyes maybe? I was my Dad head to toe! They told me I even walked like him. I know I trailed around after him all over those 360 acre's. He was a bit over 6 ft, and I can't imagine how short I must have been pre teen...I only got to 5 ft in high school, and 5'3 by my college I.D. badge. So my short little legs had some moving to do trying to keep up with Pop! LOL!!

I think I have to go get my oil changed today after gym. So I'll make sure the phone is charged up and listen to a pod cast I started yesterday.
But first a piece of toast...still hungry after my banana and coffee.

    Later...

Howdy all y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! It's rainy this morning, but it's supposed to taper off toward the afternoon, with temperatures falling, but not TOO far.

With the camera watching the front sidewalk now, we found out last night what is sometimes triggering the front door light to come on. A white and black cat, that actually looks a lot like our Kiara, was seen on cam last night when the light's motion sensor turned it on. The cat came in from behind the hedge, stepped just far enough into the frame to be seen, and then back out, presumably back behind the hedge. Something has been triggering the motion sensor light by the garage too, and we had been wondering what. Now we suspect one (or more) of the three (current) neighborhood cats that sometimes wander over for a visit is probably triggering that one too.

I need to get some laundry folded today.

Well rats!! I was just bidding you a good day, when Ted came thru for a second cup of coffee and asked me questions...next thing I knew I'd deleted my post in a way I didn't know was possible!
As I was saying; Hope you and J have something planned for today.

I may make a run to the unnamed supermarket for as many of their store brand Sparkling Water that is available, and nothing else. No, I won't be buying any other items from there. So there you have it...I'm a stubborn old lady when it comes to my principles.

Ted's off to the pet store, and gas for the car...I'm headed to the shower, and unnamed place, followed by a gym session. Its chilly and then some, but the sun is shining, so all is good!

I need to seriously get watching your video's...

Howdy all y'all. It's sumptuous Sunday!

The antique mall was a lot smaller than we expected, and it was a fairly long drive to get there.

We didn't consider it a wasted trip though, as we stopped at a nice farmers market on the way back, picking up a few items, including a large tub of salad that we used half of at dinner later.

Then we stopped at a small flea market in Conyers, but most of the stalls were closed. The market was open until 8:00 but apparently the individual stalls were open whenever the renters wanted. To be fair, it wasn't very busy by the time we got there, so there was little incentive for the sellers to stay late.

So we enjoyed the trip, aside from the traffic, and while dinner was a bit late, it was quick and easy as we had leftovers already plated up in the refrigerator. I quickly put together a couple of side salads from the tub we picked up, warmed up the leftovers in the microwave, and dinner was served.

Not much on the agenda today.

Howdy all y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! It looks like it is going to be a rainy one. I need to get out to pick up some more fluid for Lilo's treatments, and it's almost time to get her some more Adequan for her Tuesday shot. I think I have enough to give her one more dose, next week, so I need to call and make sure they can get me another bottle. And it's about time to take Dinah in for her yearly stuff. It's always something!

Yesterday the front door cam caught the Easter bunny hopping around on the front walk.

I did get out in the rain yesterday, and picked up the bag of lactated Ringer fluid for Lilo, but that was ALL I picked up. Not a lot on the agenda today.

I have been waiting for the rain to stop before I go to the grocery, but have plenty of staples on hand. Today was a "what can I make from dried beans" day so I found a recipe online for stewed Mayocoba beans and modified the method somewhat to slow cook it, and as a rare treat, made fried potatoes to go with it. Then I made first pass at making old fashioned cornflake chewies, that turned out pretty tasty, but too sticky. We ate a very small portion each, for dessert, and the rest is back in the refrigerator.

The bean recipe can be found here:

    Hi Ed!
What a day. I'm wiped out, and very little to show for it!
My blood letting (tubes of blood for next Wednesday's annual exam)..scheduled for 8:30...took an hour to get it done. But that's a different story.
Had time to get back home, scoop the cat's box, give him some breakfast, and some breakfast and COFFEE for me!
Then on the road to Decatur and Jimmy cutting my hair. Home, ate lunch Soup and an open faced cheese toast...headed to the gym...did my time there. home for a much needed nap.
Watching a hockey game now, I may or may not actually watch the enire thing. Its 3rd period, but my eye lids are getting heavy!
Tomorrow should be a less stressful and not quite so busy day..(one can always hope.)

I have a question about when you were moving here, and let the cats stay at home....I am not doing so good on finding someone to watch over Tom E. Wondering about getting about 5 disposable litter boxes to put around the house, and he will have to make do with kibble for 5 days... hmmm. Just a thought...open to suggestions.

Howdy all y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! I could hear the raindrops a'falling on the house when I got up. I hope to not be going anywhere today.

I finished Lilo off on the old bottle of fluid yesterday, and put the next setup together so that it's ready to start with the next 10 doses, one dose, three times a week.

We will have the leftover stewed Mayocoba beans for lunch today. It's nice to have that ready to heat and eat.

When moving, it wasn't a problem, as we generally had one of us at each location. Once the house in Georgia was set up, J lived in it most of the time, while I lived in Memphis with the cats. If I had to be in Atlanta for work or training at our downtown or Chamblee office, J would arrange to be working in Memphis that week.

After Twist died, we adopted Ariel and she traveled back and forth with him. If we had a rare chance for both of us to be in Georgia the same week, I started travelling with the other 4, and started doing that for long weekends too. By the time I retired, and started actually moving too Georgia myself, the cats were all already comfortable in either house, so we just moved them all to Georgia and if we both needed to go to Memphis it would only be for a night or two and we just left them with plenty of kibble and water.

So your question actually applied more to vacations of more than a night or two. At first, we had friends coming once a day to feed, check water, scoop boxes, and visit with the cats.

Later, in Memphis, we hired pet sitters to do the same, and left a check for them on the counter. If we were only going to be gone for a weekend or a single night, we just left plenty of kibble and water, and took care of the litter boxes when we got home. We have not both been gone for more than a couple of nights at the same time, since our Georgia roomer moved out. We utilized his services while he was living here.

We would not leave our pets for more than a weekend without hiring someone. And of course We don't actually know anyone here that we could hire but I am sure there are people who do that. You might ask your veterinarian if they know of any reliable pet sitters.

Scattering litter boxes around the house might not be a good idea, as he is used to the one box being in the one place, and if you have others in different places, for an extended time, he may get used to the idea that they will be there and go in those places whether they are there or not. Maybe you could put them all in a row at the usual place though.

    Hey Ed!
Thanks for all the info and thoughts about cat/s alone at home. I did some poking around after asking, and what you said, is pretty much what I found. Problem is solved...Ted is staying home with the animals. It will give 'us' a break from each other...not that we are having issues, just it will give him more personal 'space' for a week.

I'm so over this rain, rain, and more rain. If the weather report on WSB holds true, we get 3 rainless days...all in a row!!!! WowZa!! I didn't even go out to the gym today. Biked it for my 30 minutes, and tonite during the intermission times between periods I am planning to do some work with my dumbbells. That should put me in a good place for my monthly 'goals'. :)

How are you and your Fitbit getting along? I've noticed you saying you were walking...Mike too!
Maybe we should change our group name to 'the walkers'! LOL!!

Watching a hockey games. My Philly's are behind 1-3. Not so good!

Howdy all y'all. It's fabulous Friday! It's cold this morning and there is a scary, bright yellow thing up in the sky that I can't look straight at. Whatever could it be? And why is the sky blue? It's been gray so long I don't think I remember anything else. LOL. I am sure the plants appreciate all the rain.

I need to get out to the grocery today. After I take Dinah to the vet for her annual stuff.

    Hey Ed!
Already too late to say good morning! As you may guess this morning is running a little slowly!

Gym...maybe Publix?, maybe sift thru a bunch of these loose papers on my table...(that would be a really helpful thing to do :) )

I too saw the bright shiny thingy in the sky early today. It was 'bout' time it showed up! Any more gray days and we would have had to call todays shiny thingy a aberration! LOL!

Hope your day goes well, and that Dinah's trip to see the vet was 'uneventful'.

I'm still not ready to 'make up' with Kroger. What they want to achieve can be done very easily with no ones nose getting out of joint. Costco is a great example. They did install 6 or 8 self checks outs, and have a dedicated human there to help, or just to make the customers feel
special...like they will often use the UPI (?) scan gun for heavy objects in your basket so you (I) don't have to heft them up on the scanner, etc. BUT, they also keep all of their human checker lines open too. It works! And it works well. Kroger needs a new model, or a new mind set!
Ok, once again, putting my soap box away. I should store it on a higher less accessible shelf, ya think???? :)

Howdy all y'all. It's satisfying Saturday! It should be another cool one with zero chance of precipitation. The yard should be walkable by now instead of a soggy mess! Not a lot on the morning agenda, but a party this evening. I think I will make some yellow rice, which is nothing like yellow snow.

    Good Morning! No Ed???
    Hope al is well.
Off to a decent start this morning. heading for the gym early this morning, and laundry seems to round out the list today. Will get the week started off right!

Haven't given much thought to food for the day. I know I have rice and a small container of black beans that need to be used up...and there is left over Annie's vegan Mac & Cheese...and other than a frozen dinner or two, that is about 'it'! I can make do for today, but tomorrow and better be a 'cooking' day!! (if not, I could be hungry, and maybe lose a pound or three...wouldn't that be so sad? LOL)

I also need to be out pruning. While Ted and I got most of it several weeks ago....there is more that needs to be cut back.

Loving seeing the early spring things blooming. Always a pleasant sight after the dead old winter! I got tickled when I read Mike's letter this morning and he admitted to disliking February. I used to tease my Dad, and tell him I was so sorry he had a Feb birthday...shortest, meanest, nastiest, month of the year!!! LOL!

Hope your day goes well. Will look for you later today :)

Howdy all y'all. It's sumptuous Sunday! Another cool day, mostly cloudy, with slight chance of precipitation. So far nothing on the agenda today. Ate too much at the party last night, but brought NOTHING home, leaving it to the host to decide if he wanted to keep or toss the leftovers.

Howdy all y'all. It's magnificent Monday! Here comes the rain again, falling on my head like a memory. All day, apparently. Well, we had a few nice days and the forecast is calling for a few more nice days after today.

I need to do a little housework maybe.
