Howdy y'all. It's sensational Saturday! My head didn't explode during the night so I guess I'll survive. Lilo has been fed. I've been fed. Lilo is busy playing with a moth in the kitchen, so my lap is free.

I take it NS will just provide a credit on the next order for the missing item? That was usually what they offered me first, rather than replacing it, as a credit is MUCH easier for them.

I also remember them making some really bizarre substitutions at times. Once I ordered a "Chocolate Lovers" dessert/snack sampler type selection, supposed to all be chocolate snacks and desserts. They were out of one of the items and substituted the old NS sliced ham lunch entree instead.

I thought that was a pretty strange item to sub for a snack/dessert but I didn't actually mind as I LOVED the old NS sliced ham, and it was a package that was actually supposed to be three lunch entrees in one, though it was only counted as one in the packing, so you got a couple of extra lunches or proteins in it. It was a bit salty, but I liked the taste and could use two slices instead of one, with my whole grain, low carb bread to have a WHOLE sandwich for lunch, utilizing the second slice of ham as the protein add-in, and saving the third slice for my breakfast protein add-in the next day. That ham was a good deal. So of course it was discontinued shortly after I joined...like too many of my favorites.

They changed the recipe on the zesty snack mix too, from an original recipe that I really loved, to one coated in some glop that was sort of OK, and still crunchy, supposedly to help keep you full or satisfied longer, but I didn't care so much for the new texture and taste so it ceased to be a favorite snack.

I understand trying to improve the foods and make things more satisfying, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Well, J is off to Asheville for an orchid show, and my head is threatening to explode again. Computer is hard with this cold/flu/whatever bug so I'll likely get back into bed in a bit.

    Hi Folks,

Bouncing back in for a few minutes. In one week and two days I hope to be able to spend more time here. As of April 26 (I know...that is one week and 3 days, but then it is the day after my deadline), I will be done - yes completely done - my course work for my doctorate. Woo hoo! No more weekly assignments. I have completed a good portion of my dissertation proposal (one of the things that is keeping me away from your smiling faces). I hope to have that completely done in 1-2 weeks (first draft), and submit that for feedback from my committee. And, if things go as I hope, do my dissertation in one year. Then I can play here lots more! And then just my regular work that I always have...

So, yes, I do miss you folks, miss reading about all the fun and challenging things you share. I learn so much from everyone. Hope to catch up more in a couple of weeks.

    Until then, stay well!

    Hi
    Hi
Another Day another walk 9.2K Steps, I think I forgot to mention I did find a badly corroded penny Thursday & Friday. I wasn't sure what I had Until I scrubbed them :)

With stops at the drugstore, Acme, and Gas Station, Gas station for the car and Tiller + Mower, That makes $60 and change spent. Acme for some frozen breakfast Entrees that are on sale at $2.49 or Buy for and pay $1.99 each. Then a Coupon for $2 off of 6 that I can use next visit. If I make that visit by Thursday I can get 6 at $1.99 each and then take an additional $2 off making it basically 6 for $10.

Does that make me cheap or frugal? :)
Right now I am listening to Boston Blackie while walking with more of them to go and sitting here a Capture of a Old Time Radio Record of the Andrews Sisters Radio Show. The one I am listening to is from during the War years. Bing Crosby & Gabby Hayes.

    Have a Good Weekend

    Hi Ed
I seem to remember they usually replace instead of a credit in my experience. I am not sure why, I had them replace a frozen lunch with two shelf stable entrees, Not sure why, however that was what they offered.

I never had the old NS sliced ham lunch entree, it must have been gone by the time I joined, It sounds as if I would have liked it too. They discontinued the Broccoli Pesto and Pasta frozen dinner and kept one I only tried once and never ordered again, go figure.

Some of their improvements seem to mostly make the calorie counts higher :) One of their delicious additions is their highest calorie snacks too.

I agree, do not fix what is working.

    Good Luck beating that Bug

    Good Saturday Morning!
Slept in...just finished breakfast and am thinking about a 2nd cup of coffee.
Had a great day with Marietta yesterday... after a nice lunch we had coffee at the Marriott, (just down the road in Stone Mt.), then we did a whirlwind of shopping..a slice of cake from a cake shop..(talk about specialization), Home Goods, and Kroger! I wanted more of the coat hangers from Home Goods, and Marietta had gotten me some nice foodie items from there, so I wanted to 'see it' for myself...WOW! Home Goods Store has come a long way! They had a whole 'Gourmet' section, and I found the Balsamic Fig Vinegar I'd been looking for, (sweeter and great on fruit), and several other things...like dried goji berries, etc. And M needed to pick up scripts at Kroger, and I wanted the Dole bagged salad with the Sweet onion dressing! Method to my madness....now I can make the recipe I found online, and tasted it compared to the dressing in the bagged salad...and make adjustments to my recipe. Then I can quit hunting all over for that specific salad. (which they do not have at Kroger nearest me, nor at Publix...weird)
All that and more chat time at her house, and Doug arrived home from work with the puppy, so then there was puppy lovin' time.... IT WAS A GREAT DAY!!

Ed, my DS2 Ted, and a lot of folks have the 'crud' again. There is a new flu bug out there, and I think you all, and Ted have found it. He and I MAY go out for lunch Sunday, if he's still fever free and wants to eat. (this weird kid of mine stops eating when he's sick...and being vegetarian he of course won't even eat chick noodle soup) I am a very lax (bad) Vegan. If I'm sick and my head is stopped up, there is ALWAYS an emergency can of Campbell's Chicken Noodle in my pantry! Bad on me, I guess.

Roger I laughed at your 'Frugal or Cheap' question. Frugal it its something you really like, cheap if its just to use a coupon! IMHO! :) Your walks are surely productive, if not financially lucrative! LOL!! 2 corroded pennies...mmmm, gonna have to up the $$$$ a bit!

My step 'goal' on the Fitbit is going to have to be adjusted. I've already exceeded it this week, and I exceeded it last week as well. The arthritis folks tell me 6,000 steps a day..but I've been pretty close to 7,000 daily with no pain or other signs of joint stress. So... will have to work that out, as my week begins with Sunday.

Ed, I do hope you're feeling better, and that the flu bug flies out the door and lets you feel well again. Exploding heads are not fun....

It was good to 'see' LeeAnn, and to know that her course work is nearly done, and that her dissertation should be finished Spring of 2017!! Will THAT be cause for celebrations!!! WOW!

    Hi Valerie
I think we have been lucky here as regards Flu, Knock Wood.

Good to hear Your shopping success stories. Frugal it is as I can skip using coupons easily unless I have a use for the product :)

It was a beautiful day here.
I got a few things done, I thought I had finished vacuuming the Living room and then noticed I had missed a Lampshade and the Wine rack. I did get the laundry washed and folded however.

Then later I tried my brothers experimental bread and loaf. The Loaf was a Fruitcake recipe with Mince meat filling instead of the fruits, Not to bad. The Bread was a modified Irish Soda Bread with Sugar and yeast, still came out sort of dense and so-so. OTOH his Homemade Baked Beans and The Homemade Pastrami came out excellent as usual.

    Have a Good Evening

Howdy y'all. It's scintillating Sunday! Head still feels like it might explode, so won't stay up too long. Was running a low grade fever when I went to bed. As of last check this morning, no fever but then I DID take some painkiller fever reducer before bed and it might still be working. I do need to try to get some laundry done today. Other than that, I think just more rest and recovery.

    Hi
I had a good walk, 7900 steps + 20 Cents :) It was in the 40s when I started out and I took of the light jacket on the return leg as I was getting too warm under it.

The new Carburetor for the Lawn Mower was delivered yesterday so that is next on the agenda after Breakfast. The Cost for a new one was the same as the parts to rebuild the old one. Darned things are plastic. The Tiller Carb was worth rebuilding so that is what we did with it.

Grass needs to be shortened so the question is see if the mower will run first, The main problem is hard starting or change it first. Decisions, decisions :)

    Have a Great Sunday

Howdy y'all. It's marvelous Monday! 47 out there right now but supposed to get to 84 today!

Still got that last load of laundry to fold after work, but it's small...just didn't ever get around to it yesterday.

    Off to the salt races!

    Hi
I found one penny on today's walk, it was warmer than yesterday and I was overdressed despite wearing one layer less. Today is forecast to be in the high 70s to 80 degrees :) It seems early to me for these temperatures here in NJ, I could also be wrong.

I changed the carburetor yesterday morning, then I mowed the front and side lawns, the back grass did not really need it.

I watered the garden too. Two of the three Apple trees have started to leaf out as have more of the Raspberry plants. The Onion plants are growing pretty good too.

    Have a Good Upcoming Week

Sunshine in my woods...Makes me smile!
I think a Whole Foods run today, for no reason that I can think of this very minute. It may dawn on me later...:) Then again staying home would be cheaper!!! LOL!

Ed, I really feel for you and Ted (DS2). We had a great lunch yesterday, but he still has a nasty cough, all the while maintaining that he 'feels' so much better. (His pesky Mother, (me) took him a thermometer yesterday. He kept teasing me, asking how he sync'd it with his iPhone, etc.

And my ever so smart computer, with the help of this software, just alerted me that Roger has posted. :)

Since I know nothing new I think I'll go read Roger...

Roger, we're having same weather as you are in NJ today!! I'm loving it!
Glad to know your new plants are doing well...hopefully that last apple will leaf out this week too.

I got my steps in yesterday, by the skin of my teeth! Hope to do much better today. Meaning I need to get my breakfast and start my day.

Finished my Coursera course yesterday, and have enrolled in a new one, on global health from the Univ. of Copenhagen. It will be sub titled in English. Should be most interesting. :) Its free, so if I don't like it, etc I'll just drop the course. Starts Friday.

I'm off for the kitchen and some oatmeal!

I was on the phone with NS regarding the Missing Frozen item and the Bear that they shipped the wrong one of. It took 25 minutes, mostly waiting in the Que.

While That was going on the computer alerted me You had posted here :)

I would not be surprised if someone out there is selling Thermometers that can sync.

I tend to stay out of Grocery Stores if possible as I have this deplorable tendency to impulse buy junk.

I am at 8K steps currently, yesterday was over 12K steps with the Walking, Grocery Run and then Mowing the lawn.

It is nice weather, OTOH I have a suspicion I will turn on the Big Wall mount AC in the living room, Hopefully it still works, same hope for the small bedroom unit.

    Have a Great Monday

Howdy y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! One usually feels better in the morning if sleep went OK. We'll see how it feels later in the day. I've been using a minimum of cough suppressant/expectorant as I HATE how that stuff makes me feel. I only use it when absolutely necessary. Don't understand how young folks can deliberately take that stuff to get high. It doesn't get me high, just feels like I've been run over a couple of times and left to die. I'd generally rather suffer the cold/flu but sometimes you just have to take stuff to get to breathe and get any sleep.

Anyway, off to the rat mines! Supposed to get quite warm today.

Going to warm nicely today like yesterday! Nothing is absolute until O's gymnastics this evening. SOOOOO :):):)
I will go to the gym...I've got a string of good walking/biking days, and I don't want to drop a day.

Ed, I do hope you're feeling better very soon. It's miserable having colds/flu . I have to agree, the remedies on the market pretty much make you feel like yuck...but sleep, if you can get it is so healing...

Roger, I can almost see you out walking today! Bet you left early this morning to 'beat the heat'. Nice here until Friday...then maybe some showers and 68 degrees. Oops! that's gonna feel chilly after being in the 80's all week!

    Good Wednesday Morning!
Ed, please extend my condolences to J when he returns. I think his grandmother had been ill for awhile, so hopefully she's found her rest and peace.

Its gonna be a great day for tags! Not to hot, not too cold, not even wet! Sounds like a great excuse for being outdoors! :)

Looking forward to my lunch with my niece today, and hopefully a few minutes outdoors, after grocery shopping. Busy day.

Little Olivia was so funny last night she's perfected the back flip, and she was ecstatic! She was still walking on cloud nine when I hugged her goodbye last night! :) So much fun watching a little one achieve a long worked on goal!

Ok, off to the kitchen for some breakfast!

I got out walking by 7:25AM, It was a bit chilly outbound and I was thinking maybe I should have added a layer then on the return part of the loop I was thinking I wish I had on less layer, I'm never happy :) I also found 1 whole Chuck E Cheese Token while walking.

I got a few more things done yesterday, We cleaned the refrigerator, and I pulled the gizmo we put the dishes in to drain out of the one side of the sink and cleaned the Sink.

My brother baked a Cheesecake and as the chief taster in residence I know I'll be eating some today.

I turned on the water to start watering the garden on my return from my walk, Currently 5 of the 11 berry plants and two of the 3 Apple trees are leafing out.

    Have a Nice Wednesday

Howdy y'all. It's wonderful Wednesday already! J is out of town again. His maternal grandmother died and he's there for the funeral, so I'm holding the fort down.

Off to the salt races for today!
    Hi Ed
I am sorry to hear the bad news regarding J.

Tag day As I remember it, Good Luck with that, maybe it will be a light day.
    Roger

    Later...
    Hi Valerie
We are having great weather here too.

I have finished Breakfast since posting the first post and I am back from shifting the sprinkler to water a different part of the garden, one more shift needed. A nice Rainbow formed in the spray from the sprinkler too. Sprinkler or Stand around watering, Sprinkler wins by a mile :)

It is always nice to achieve a goal, I think my last major goal was to retire, Done!

    Have a Good Day

Howdy y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! I get the joy of re-working the schedule for next week, as one of the staff who closed last night waited until last night to tell me she can't work Thursday next week (which she is supposed to tell me well in advance so I won't schedule her for that day...)

Anyway, off to the rat mines!

    Good Morning....
I am asleep. I cannot think. It is dark outside. :):):)
Have an early appointment with my chiro, and will get to experience the joys of rush hour traffic. Good Grief!

Had a great lunch with my niece. And it was a pretty simple drive over to John's Creek, for both of us...which means we'll do this again.

Off to the kitchen to find breakfast...

Ed, scheduling is the worst part of being the responsible one... yuck! I do not miss that at all.
Hope you can shuffle people without too much trouble.

Roger, hope your weather is good. We're looking at rain/showers/thunderstorms for tomorrow, but a clean weekend. I think we can cope! I got tickled at your clothing assessment on your walk yesterday... too cold....too hot, all in just a couple hours? one hour?

    Later...

    Hi
I was Not 100% Wednesday, I had a Chinese Pork Broccoli Lunch Special and My Brothers Home Made Cheesecake for Dessert

No money found today while walking, It was somewhat colder than yesterday so I wore more layers on the outbound leg, I ended up Shedding on the Inbound leg as it warmed up outside. Nice looking day so far, It is somewhat hard to believe rain is in the forecast for later.

    Have a Nice Thursday

    Hi Ed
I guess it could have been worse, I suspect that she thought a weeks notice was adequate?

    Good Luck With the ReWork

    Hi Valerie
If I said I generally get 1.5 hours of walking each morning. Once the Sun is up it warms up quickly around here on the cloudless days.

Rain in the forecast for later on during the Evening Rush Hour(s) in the forecast, OTOH it looks like it may be gone by morning which would suit me fine so I can go out on time and not have to wear any rain gear or carry an Umbrella, The Rain gear blocks the breeze and it gets hot under it this time of year.

It sounds as if You had a great day yesterday, Whee!

I do not have to find breakfast, I have it laid out the night before :)

    Cheers

    Good Morning Folks,

Well, I want to sleep later, but I just keep waking up no later than 5. I keep promising Marc I won't get up so early (so I am not so tired early at night)...but I guess I just have to accept I am a morning person.

Still playing boomerang with these 5 pounds. And I am not winning at it! My exercise is walking, but I have let slack off horribly. I went from 1 hour every morning to 1/2 hour about 3-4 times a week...in the warm weather. I also still recall my success at doing P90X. But those days (years) are past. I have to build back up, since my work has kept me so busy sitting and reading.

Looks to be warm here, but maybe a bit rainy later. Better get moving early.

    Take care,
    Lee-Ann

    Good Morning All!
Friday...rainy. All good! So far its showers and I am going to find breakfast, (Roger its the same thing every morning...so 'finding' is perhaps not the best choice of words :) )
Then, I'm heading to Home Depot or some such place, and buying a half flat of bedding plants for the mailbox flower bed...which I will happily plant tomorrow or Sunday!

LeeAnn, we can start 'rebuilding' together! :) I have lost so much muscle, all of which can be regained, with work! Read an encouraging article about knee Osteoarthritis and walking this morning..retraining how you walk! Interesting. And then I really NEED to start hitting the weights again. It will help me on so many levels. I remember your P90X days! You were unstoppable!!!

Roger, don't you just love it when mother nature does your watering chores for you? :)

I was pleasantly surprised with the traffic yesterday...yes it did take me an extra 20 minutes to get into Decatur, but I didn't see any angry drivers, or habitual lane changers, accidents, etc. Just a lot of people going the same direction, at about the same speed....behaving nicely.

Ok...one, two, three....up I stand, and off to the kitchen I go............

    Hi
I dropped off two wedges of the Home made Cheesecake and a couple of other things to get rid of temptation at friends. All that is left of the Cheesecake is two wedges in the freezer awaiting a friend to drop by for them. Since they are earmarked they are safe :)

I stopped by the Grocery Store on the way home 9600+ Steps, I picked up a three pound bag of "Seedless Candy Mandy brand Clementines, Three Bananas since with the warmer weather they are ripening quicker, Fuji & Red Delicious (On Sale) Apples for my SmartCarbs.

It was T-Shirt Weather today, 60 degrees at 7:30AM. My Brother said I was overdressed due to the long pants :)

I had mentioned corroded coins I found on my walks, Today was no exception, One Shiny Penny and one corroded penny. Image attached of some of the finds from April.

    Hi Ed
Unlucky You, Raining and all, Ours keeps being pushed back to later and lower amounts. My suspicion is none by the time it is all said and done.

    Enjoy the Upcoming Weekend

    Hi Lee-Ann
Not to mention that research has shown that too much sitting is bad for Your health overall.

In My case I will be aiming to be up at 5AM as the weather warms up so I can get out walking before the heat builds up and before I start feeling the heat from the sun on me when I am walking.

Good Luck Getting Going Again, I know You can do it.

    Hi Valerie
In a way I wish it would rain later today, we are short on rain in NJ and I need to water every couple of days for the newly planted items.

The Final Apple tree has a leaf showing and many more buds ready to break into leaf and another Raspberry is now in leaf, Yea!

Around here Lowes seems to have a better garden center and plants compared to Home Depot.

I never minded traffic too much if it at least was moving, slow I can deal with, stop and go not so much.

Good Luck rebuilding Muscle, It is a shame it is hard to build, easy to lose

Back from the garden center...and furnace filter, and new 'girl' sized leather palm gloves for working with roses, and pulling blackberry sprouts in my front garden...etc. Also picked up some apple chips, and hickory blocks for DS1's 50th Birthday on Monday. (guess its a good thing I've never been shy about revealing my age!!) :)
Got the plants I need, got a bit damp, but my fault...had the umbrella, but it wasn't really raining...and then I took the filter out of the basket, to put into the trunk of my little Fit, and turned around to see my basket of flowers rolling its merry way across the parking lot, which was mercifully empty, and it rolled and rolled til it finally smashed into a curb, in a puddle! LOL!!!!! So, I retrieved it, laughing all the way...
I think it depends on the store Roger...yesterday while in town, Midtown, to be exact, I walked to Home Depot, Whole Foods, and Staples....that Home Depot had the best selection of plants, annual and perennial that I've seen anywhere in town....but I still had to stop at the other two stores, and was on foot...so I waited till I was out here in the burbs....not so great out here, but I was only getting 3 small geraniums, a flat of yellow marigolds, and a 6 pack of dark purple petunia's....hard to mess up those plants! I will make a trip back to Midtown next week for a few of their small pots of hosta's, etc.
Lowe's normally does have good plants...but my local one closed several years ago, and its about 7-8 miles up the Interstate to the next one...sooooooo...:(

Glad your apple and another berry bush are coming into leaf Roger! I always hold my breath while these slow ones get around to showing signs of life!

Ok, One oclock, and I'm ready to round up lunch! Thinking chopped salad and the last of the chicken fried tofu....yep, hungry in GA!!

    Later...

Oh, and about the rebuild for my muscles...it comes back fairly quickly. Took a year to build it 5-6 years ago, and may take a little less time to regain it. We'll see. Fortunately I have weights and weight bench at home so I can get started in private!!! :) And will need a couple of the machines at the gym...I can handle that! :)

Howdy y'all. It's sensational Saturday! Been awake since about ten after four, though I did try to doze a bit longer after a brief bathroom visit. Lilo didn't help by getting up in my face and purring, though she did eventually settle back down. I finally gave it up and got out of bed at 5:00.

Lilo has been fed, I've been fed, the leftover pot roast from last night's dinner has been converted into beef stew which will likely be today's lunch AND dinner. I put one cup of a nice, very dark red California wine into the slow cooker with all the rest of food when I started it yesterday, and it made a really, delicious, dark and tasty gravy, after cooking several hours with all the rest of the liquids and dry ingredients.

The rest of the bottle of wine was served with dinner and was all consumed by the end of the evening.

Today is going to be a lazy day. Because I deserve one.
