Roger - thanks for the tip - good reminder. Isn't it amazing when you carry 10 pounds how much it impacts you? the wt gradually comes on so we don't notice it too much to begin with - but once it's gone - wow.

Guess I'll be restricted as far as picking up over 8 pounds after surgery - trying to do one step at a time.

Starting to dream about apple products, in case I get stuck. Could be way worse.

Reached my first 20 lbs lost today!! Woohoo! Hoping I can stick to the getting two bears this month. 2 days in for the 20... Need to lose another 15 by next shipment.. Which ships on aug 9th so that's doubtful.. Seems to me they ship them way earlier then they need to. I still have a ton of food in there!

Congrats on earning your 2nd bear!!!

FYI-you can delay NS orders online or by calling Cust service. Now that I'm adding more of my own foods, I delayed next order a couple weeks.

    Hi All
When I went out the Door it was looking clear, by the time I left the post office I was starting to see fog, By the time I got home You could barely see the end of the block. That fog & humidity made for a somewhat uncomfortable walk. During the Walk I saw two Deer run out of a front yard in a house across from one of our Elementary Schools.

    Have a Good Monday

    Hi Shirl
Not Just Amazing, I was appalled how heavy that backpack felt by the time I got home.

Good Luck with the Cataract Surgery

IMO Apple products are really pricey :)
How goes the money, is recovery looking possible?

    Have a Great Day

    Hi Daisylee
They ship 4 weeks of food every 28 days (4 Weeks) so If You have food left over either You must have added some A La Carte or substituted other food?

Big Congratulations on earning two NutriBears in one month. Good Luck doing it again, Do not forget to call for the second bear, they seem to only ship the bigger loss bear, Or IOWs earn a 10 and a 20 and they ship the 20.

Also as Val mentioned You can choose delay my order on the same page that lets You Customize the order. I just delayed another week Yesterday. I still have a lot of food on hand from buying A La Carte and I'm trying to reduce my on hand Inventory.

    Good Luck

    Hi Val
I delay all the time, I bought a lot of food at bargain prices from other users off of the old NutriSystem Forums. I still have a few Shelf Stable items left from those days that I froze to keep them fresh. The Grilled Chicken Breast Dinner Entree and the Hickory Smoked Dinner Entree. Not a fan of the latter but they were part of a Package deal of food. Also Four Chili with Beans that I did not freeze as I was afraid of popping the Pull tab lid :)

    Cheers

It's hard for me to keep up in here. I am having a rough time getting my metabolism moving again since I went off the program. I have been back on for a month losing about a pound a week. This week I gained and I followed my plan to a T. I called Nutrisystem and the counselor told me that I need to eat an hour within waking up and that I need to spread my dinner and dessert out. I was telling her that I have been exercising more, which made it even worse that I gained this week. Does anyone have any other tips that I can use?

Roger recently gave the analogy of thinking of your metabolism as a coal stove...throughout the day (like every 2.5 to 3 hours) add fuel to keep your stove burning hot. You don't want to wait until its cooling off from being empty and then add a bunch of coal.

WebMD says that spicy foods and turmeric help raise the metabolism (and decrease inflammation). Protein and fiber are harder to digest so they make you feel full longer and burns more calories during digestion. so I increased my % of protein and fiber and decreased my other carbs/sugars and fats.

The news just reported on a study where they compared a group of people on a low carb diet...and then they went back to their normal diet for 8 weeks...then the same group of people on a low fat diet...and then normal again. The people lost more and kept more off with the low fat diet vs. the low carb diet.

When I have a surge in exercise, my weight stays the same for at least a few days, and then (like a delayed reaction) drops. So, maybe ease up on the exercise?

I also keep a daily weight record with notes about what else is going on with me...like whether I slept well or not. Sleep really affects weight loss. Or if I'm ill, or emotionally stressed...I also won't lose.

They say exercising early in the day is better as it raises your metabolism rate even for hours after. (But, if it's late in the day, it would do the same thing, so I don't get that...but I know I FEEL good getting my E in early.)

They also say to fidget! Don't sit still or stand still...but wiggle and move about (I've gotten into this habit, and it apparently bugs other people, but it works for me!)

They say switching around your meals like having dinner for breakfast and breakfast for dinner can help break a plateau (that didn't work well for me because I felt hungry late in the day).

I hope something in here was helpful. And for more ideas, here are some articles from a Google search on Kickstarting weight loss:

One other "trick" I use...around my house, I wear a weight vest (Walmart sells an 8-pound and a 40-pound version...um, I have both). Not only is it helpful to build core muscles while just doing every-day stuff like unloading the dishwasher and all, but it tricks your body into thinking that you're 8 or 40-pounds heavier, so that every step you take burns more calories than if you didn't have the vest on. I sometimes wear the 8-pound one when I go wogging (walk-jogging), and that boosts the metabolism!

Roger - aren't NSVs great - yeah on the t shirts.

Dead end on getting the $ back - I agree Apple products are pricey - but I have enuf cards to buy a mac book and an ipad. Go figure - 2k is a lot of itunes! Will figure out outcome in the next few weeks - right now concentrating on healing - yet the problems keep on coming. Important callers getting a disconnect notice, and my palm pilot address/phone/memo program is suddenly AWOL. I have a seagate external hard drive so we should be able to recover it.

Exhausted today - drove to the store and to the clinic to pick up meds - really worn out - feel like someone let out all the air in a balloon. Eye still doing fine - tho 4 pm drops were late by 1.5 hrs. If I shut my good eye, I actually can see clearly out of the bad, operated eye for distances - computer - not so much. They said it wouldn't help the permanent vision loss, but they could be wrong. Wonder if a clot could land on a lense.

August has been a really rough month.. Dog had to go to the emergency vet, then the bank fiasco, and the water main break. The break has been repaired as of today! Hoping that it lasts long enough for me to pay off my car and save up some money to move out!! Apparently it's a very common thing in my sub division due to a crappy builder. And once the slab leaks start... Apparently they don't stop.

    So hopefully it holds!

Been bad on my diet... Mexican and a few large margaritas on Monday... Didn't eat Tuesday... Wednesday I had only a pizza shell... And today just a chicken sandwich from McDonald's and sushi.

Get back into my house tomorrow evening and back to the grind. I weighed myself on a scale at the friends house I'm staying and said I had gained 9 pounds... Went to my house and weighed and it was only a 5 pound gain. Sure it's just a lot of bloat.

    Hi All
Still somewhat under the weather but I walked anyway.......... It was so cool it was almost cold, Parts of NJ hit the 40s overnight, a nearby town was in the 50s. Shorts and a T-Shirt did not really cut it until I got warmed up and caffeinated.

Now I am officially tired :)

We pulled the fuel tank off of the Roto Tiller for cleaning, The Fuel was really old 10+ years and did not even smell anything remotely like gas. Picked up new fuel hose as the old hose was cracked and leaking. I believe it will be fine with new fuel as it did run on starting fluid. Hopefully I will not have to rebuild the carburetor too.

Don't forget, Only two more days to buy the $59.99 NS Gift Cards Via Costco

    Have a Good Friday

I was afraid that might be the end result. I am guessing You have seen an eye specialist?

Have You talked to the Phone Company?

Good Luck Getting that data back

    Hi DaisyLee
As You found out only weights on the same scale really count due to the built in inaccuracies. That is one reason I switched to a Mechanical Balance Beam Scale. I was over $100 but I figure I'm worth it!

Slabs have their pluses and minuses. Plus, no basement to flood, Minus, well You found one of them.
Was the leak in the water line or do You have radiant heat in the slab? If so You could go to baseboard heat?

That diet can cause a large water weight gain, Good Luck

Daisy Lee - we too live on a slab and are a bit concerned we may also have a leak - weird spot on carpet by laundry room. My friend's house on the next street really had issues - started to look like earthquake damage - the sewer pipe under the house erroded lots of dirt finally working it's way under the garage - the house actually sunk - friends had to move out while the house was being pumped back up with some sort of foam/stuff to shore it up - then everything inside needed to be fixed. They just put laminate floors through the hall and living room dining room - kitchen will be next. What a pain! Originally our water lines were under the slab too - now they're up in the attic - of course when the city insulated the attic for me (I was a poor single mom) they put the batting under the pipes so the pipes burst. Batting is now over the pipes! Always something - aye!

Roger - counting on getting data back - but started compiling phone numbers from caller id, call logs, and notes just in case. Plan on typing a back up phone list so if the data dumps I'll still have access. Phone company couldn't explain why that msg was being given out - they pulled the gateway and rebooted the system. Seems fixed now. I asked for a credit - they gave me $15 off. The bank finally caught up with the 1400 they washed thru our accts - so now we're broke, but it's all paid. Looking at i pads, let alone mac books is making me dizzy - electronics are so complicated.

And about seeing the eye guy - duh - yup - had eye surgery last monday, saw him Tuesday, will see him again next Thursday. Will be interesting to see if he has an explanation for the floating J's last Sunday, and for the superior results, ie being non blurry when the surgery wasn't supposed to help that.

Gorgous cool day - in the high 60s - sat outside til noon - read an eating well mag - found some chinese staples I want to pick up next time we go to chinatown, plus a stuffed shell recipe I'm making for dinner tomorrow. ricotta, parm, chard, cubed ham with a fire roasted tomato sauce. Think I'll go pick the chard now - it's supposed to be warmer tomorrow. And happily, also a problem free day!

Daisy Lee - finally took eyes off self and realized you're already at 20 pounds, despite a bad month. Yeah you - no easy feat - although NS does make it easier. So nice to grab, add some veggies, eat and be done - miss that part of the program.

Making stuffed shells tonight with ricotta, parm, 1/2 c ham cubes, lb of swiss chard and a fire roasted tomato sauce - thought we had everything here - turns out the shells died way back in 2009. Can you tell we don't eat many stuffed shells around here! So have to pop in the store to buy fresher ones! Think I also picked some Chinese cabbage that the cabbage moths missed while picking the swiss chard - unsure - will use up chard first and then decide what I'm doing with the undetermined green.

Everyone - have a super weekend. Life's good - and losing makes it even better.

    Hi Shirl
It will be interesting hearing why the results were better than predicted. One possibility is that in the past he had told someone that their vision would be better and it was not as they expected and they gave a hard time or sued. I know when I was on the road and running late, I had to let the office know so they could let the next stop know. So just to safe if I expected to be 30 minutes late I would add 15+ minutes as a safety margin just in case of traffic or whatever. Then if You get there early it is better than being later than forecast.

I think if they were the dried shells I might have used them anyway, what could go wrong with them?
The stuffed shells sound tasty :)

    Enjoy
    Roger

Roger- i do hope you continue to feel better. Is it time to see the doc?

Shirl- so glad the vision is better than predicted. Did they give any idea how long the new lens will be good for? The lenses I was born w have done well for 51 years. I'm just starting to have cataracts (thinking ahead) so wondering if the replacement lenses will also do well for another 51 years. (I can google for research or call my eye doc to ask...just wondering if you already knew).

I got my first 20,000 step award from fitbit. After my 2 mile dog-wog, I took the girls to SeaWorld. Now I have my feet up and sinking into the bed!

    Take care! Val

Wow Val - awesome on those steps!

Unsure about longevity - will ask Thurs when I go back - also about J floaters and why it seems better than expected.

Shells were an epic failure - DH and son both said not a fan. Step son will eat his tomorrow - he doesn't like chard either - so we'll see. Had to use regular diced tomatoes plus some liquid smoke - no fire roasted where I expected them to be - and as I'm easily distracted that search ended up being a cupboard, snack bag clean up that took the majority of the day. Started dinner at noon - ate at 9 - honestly! I liked them tho. Worked for me - but a lot of work - needed 1/2 c basil strips for sauce, and had to dice stems and thinly slice leaves for chard. 3 garlic cloves in sauce, 2 in filling - and 1/2 c shallots - plus a little red wine vinegar. Washed chard then hung up above sink to dry.

Computer braying turned out to be my failed A drive, plus all 3 fans need replacement. Cover is still off in effort to keep it cooler.

Data recovery also failed. Turns out if you do continuous backups, it even backs up bad data - program is toast and 25 yrs of contacts are history. Actually the a drive failure has caused it not to back up at times. Jas pointed out that the backup is not to be able to pluck and restore a program, but in case of hard drive failure.

So rebuilding list in the cloud - don't want to have to do this again. Mined cells and anything else that might contain a phone number - I have 3 pages worth. My Christmas Card list has addresses - plus I'm facebooking friends for info. Looking at it as I have the important numbers I guess - that has to be good enuf.

    Hi All
Feeling somewhat better each day so far.

In Addition to walking Yesterday Morning, After a Not 100% Day I decided to walk in the Evening too. So Saturday ended up being early Morning & Evening walks, each 2.75 miles. Then I walked this morning another 2.75 miles. The weather was warm last night and comfortable this morning. Since We seems to be heading into above average temperatures for today and the next 4 days I suspect that today was the last nice morning for a little while. I am officially tired now.

    Have a Really Good Sunday

FWIW it is worth all the family members I cab recall that had new lenses from Cataract surgery cam out great. I do not recall any having to have them done again.

    Congratulations on the 20k steps

    Hi Shirl
The A Drive should not be making noise unless used as the A Drive is a floppy drive, Usually 3.5".

Try putting a fan where it can blow into the case on everything. When You say all three fans are You including the Power supply fan(s)? If so I suggest getting them all done ASAP as a failed power supply fan can cause a catastrophic failure that could damage all other items.

A Backup could be used to restore everything. It depends on the type of backup, Image AKA Clone creates an exact image of the entire drive. Data Backup will not. I would have thought a incremental Backup could be set to back up only changes and preserve the older data. FWIW I always suggest 2 to 3 backups. Using a Special type of drive that has more than one drive in it helps preserve data in case of a drive faliure. The simplest type uses two drives where the second drive is an exact mirror of the first drive. That is the simplest type of a R.A.I.D. drive setup. I use them and connect top them from all computers over the network.

    Good Luck recreating the Data

Roger - - actually tired of sitting by the computer!! rebuilding contacts is gonna be a project. Had a horrid coughing jag a6t 2 am - had to sleep rest of night sitting up on the couch, without my CPAP - solve 1 problem, create another.

Talked to a few of my deep pocketed friends who may be able to help take these itune cards off my hands as one is wanting a mac book, another an iphone. We'll see - they're in play.

Fans will be $25 total. Turning computer off to give it a rest - don't usually do that.
